What happened to them selling PC parts? (I know its been a while since they sold PC stuff now that I think about it). I was hoping to pick up a new 8800GT now that Ive been playing COD4 and Crysis comes out soon.

My son wants a PS3 for Christmas, but he wants a new bike more. I figure I can sit on the gift cards until his birthday in April and the PS3's will come with DS3 controllers by then. There arent many must have PS3 games out yet and there should be a few more by April.

I was going to pick up a PS3 with the kmart 20% deal but my kmarts near the ghetto so the PS3's go from the truck to the law-a-way office and there are never any for sale out on the floor.

Its burning a hole in my pocket though... anyone know if there is an expiration on GS giftcards/store credit?

It depends on what state you are in, I think. I know in CT, giftcards cannot expire nor can they incur inactivity fees. Our attorney general is pretty kick ass in fighting for consumer rights.

the expiration date should be on the back some where...

you can always try to sell the gs gift cards[/quote]

No expiration date on them anywhere (front or back). 3 of the cards actually say "Gift Card" on the front of them and in the back they have a 16 digit credit card style # starting with a 6. The other 2 have a 12 digit "Acct #" on the back starting with a 1 and dont say gift card on them anywhere.

Then I have my edge card which has some of the balance on it.

I assume its a mix of store credit/gift cards. There is a 1-888 # on the back for balances, I'll call it around lunch and see what they say about the differences in the cards and about expirations.

Selling the cards might be a good idea.. are people generally good with paying about 90-95% of the cards value?

I've seen cards go for half of their value and I've seen cards go for their full value before. It just really depends on the retailer they're from, how much they're for and what people are willing to pay, much like anything else.

dude that is the best thing you could ever get out of your giftcards, a ps3! drive to the next town and go to another kmart. with so much more left over, you could buy a bike! and/or maybe another game.

quotes dumb psp commercial: "HELLZ YEAH!!!"

seriously that is the ONLY good thing about being in CT hahahaha

I could be convinced to spend these things if GS would come off it and offer at least a small black friday special on a PS3. Everyone else is giving away a free game, giftcard, or controller on a PS3 for black friday. Seriously though, it seems like GS is the worst when it comes to sales.

At least pretend you like me for a little bit and THEN you can screw me.

They are not to bad on sales for Black Friday.. figure they had the B2Get! offer going and with a purchase of a 20 GB 360 you got Call Of Duty 2 and a free PRP so that was not to bad of a deal if they give anything free with a system purchase that works for me

Since you will be getting a ps3 at some point I would pick one up whenever they offer something with it.

Exactly. Im not looking to pay nothing, but come on, give me a little bit of a break. Its Black Friday, something above and beyond the everyday price should happen.

I guess my gripe with GS isnt so much the prices as it is the employees at this one particular store near me. In fact because the guy gave me so much grief when I used a 10% off coupon (from joining the email mailing list), that I ended up cancelling my 3 preorders (SSB, SMG and Rock Band) and taking them to another store. Ever since then the employees at that store just look at me like Im a piece of shit when I walk in.

Im just a small fish for sure but they lost $300 of my money in the last week and this $700 in gift cards will get spent at another store, so thats $1000. All over a 10% coupon which ended up being a $4 discount.

Funny how that all works out.. Karma, its a bitch.

...i think i missed something, how will you use the 700$ in GS gift cards, at another store?

Or did you mean another GS? in which case, i dont think it matters, since GS is still cash cowing it up, one way or another.

Yes, at another GS store (sorry for the confusion).

Apparently stores and employees get bonuses for pre-sales and console sales, so supporting one store over another can tend to piss off some people.

Im basing that information from this interview that was posted last week.

ahh, okay, i didnt think employees got incentives or anything, just the regular 9to5 type paycheck sorta thing.

in that case ya, just take it to another store. I wouldnt get a PS3 from them though, they offer some crummy bonuses with systems usually... youd be better off waiting for the after xmas sales or blackfriday (but no rumble controller in that case...).

I always thought the incentive was they wouldn't get fired if they meet their quota every month. Guess you learn something new everyday.

Anyways, have you tried selling the cards? The only thing I buy from Gamestop are good condition used games for cheap but that's about it. I don't think they'll ever have $700 worth of good used games and I wouldn't want to buy a PS3 from them for all the reasons everyone has mentioned. Maybe you can find enough people here on CAG to buy all of them.

I think I'll hold off for just another week and see what kind of Black Friday deal they will offer and then either sell em or spend em.

I checked ebay and they didnt seem to be selling well. Maybe because its gamestop.... Lowes giftcards were selling for 99% of value...

Trade in values I believe expire 12 months after they are issued or something to that effect I believe. That being said I would buy;
Wii-$249.99
Limited edition Phantom Hourglass DS lite system-$149.99
Super Mario Galaxy-$50
Wii Zapper w/Links crossbow training-$24.99
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles-$50
Final Fantasy 3 for DS-$30
Zelda Twilight Princess Wii-$50
Metroid Prime 3 Corruption-$50

If that list doesn't get you excited for playing some GREAT games then nothing will.

I own a Wii
My son has the Brain Age 2 Crimson DS bundle (but did buy Phantom Hourglass)
Resident Evil UC I plan to buy next week with the $25 TRU giftcard from the SMG offer and the B2G1 free sale.
Not sure about the Zapper... Im on the fence
Already played/sold Twilight Princess
I have Metroid Prime 3 still sealed, waiting for a break to open it.

I'll pick up SMG today and then RE:UC, Trauma Center 2, and something else next week.

I wont be using the GS cards unless there is a good BF special at GS on a PS3. Otherwise I'll either sell the cards or hang on to them until my sons Bday in April and see if the DS3 controllers are bundled by then.

Roger that! I just got a refurbed 60gb PS3 from GS with a year warranty and used trade in credit for it so it's not a bad idea as the 60 has full BC and the year warranty should help me if it ever acts up. Used 60gb are 449.99 so you could pick that up and get Drakes Fortune which the demo is online now and alot of fun and then pick up Ratchet & Clank. Other games coming out worth a look for the Wii include Soul Calibur Legends or you can pick up the AWESOME Zack & Wiki.

If you don't care about the Backwards Compatibility, you can buy the 40 gig PS3, a few games (Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted), and then ebay the rest of the amount for the bike.

This time of year on ebay it will get 95%+ of the value it is worth. On Ebay before paying fees it will/should sell for around $675.... Ebayers have no common sense of deal:risk ratio, especially around xmas time. Just set up the auction starting at $.99 and watch the bidding wars.
