How different is this from the original Bloop?
See title. Also any benefits for original Bloop owners (free for them or a deep discount)?

Gameplay wise it's more or less the same, there are new mechanics and the existing ones were polished a lot, just as the visuals of course, the system requirements went down(the exact same scene runs around 30 fps on a laptop which could run the original around 8-9 fps), there is an improved level editor(it's still work in progress tho, but it works much better than the originals and it's completely realtime - also workshop support will come in the following weeks, just like achievements\trading cards\linux version\etc). And of course there are brand new levels.

So I wouldn't call it a port at all, it's more of a Bloop 2 - you guys probably don't know, but the original Bloop is almost 2 years old(earlier it was only available on Desura, GMG, etc), the steam release was a bit of a surprise for me since I worked on the new one for 6-7 months then.

so no possibilty of free copies for those who own bloop 1 (as a courtesy)

Do Electronic Arts give people who bought Fifa 14 a free copy of Fifa 15? lol!

well Train Simulator devs give the newest train sim game for each existing owner (and a lot of graphical updates are placed in that game :D)

I don't think appealing to the behaviour of one of the most hated companies in the gaming industry is a particularly smart idea.

Q.U.B.E. developers presented a new version for the old customers

IIRC they only did it after a fan backlash for their original decision not to.

But I recall Alien Shooter 2: Reloaded replaced the original AS2 free of charge.

On the other hand, Guacamelee Super Turbo Whatever did not.

Those were pretty different cases.
Bloop Reloaded was build from scratch on a completely different engine, and actually I worked on it a lot more than on the original - for comparision, everything worked from the original around summer, but then right before release the original was greenlit. They have nothing to do with eachother except they both have the same goal. Take the fluid to a jar.
Also Train Sim's developers make money from the DLCs(right now there is 209(!) of them available on Steam), not the main game.

Eh.. I re-read what I wrote, and kinda felt like I came off as too much of a jerk. Still... it's not good practice to laugh at your customers. I'm still glad I didn't buy Bloop, because the way the dev himself described the difference between the two games, the original sounds like crap compared to this one... and since the original was released on Steam less than a month ago, I don't think it's unreasonable for people who bought that one to ask for a discount on this one.

Free? No, not necessarily.. but a coupon would've been a nice gesture that would earn you more loyal customers and less disgruntled ones.

@Carlz0r
-The original game is 2 years old, it costs half as much as the new one, mostly because it's old. Not because Bloop Reloaded looks better, or because Bloop is crap, jut because it's old.

-When a guy had a problem with Bloop I instantly added him to my friends list to ask about the problem, and the issue was solved within 10 hours, even though I worked on Bloop Reloaded 16-18 hours a day (if that won't get loyal fans I have no idea what will - you can look at the reviews, and printscreen that as well if you like).

By the way how are you comparing these games if you didn't played any of them?

I admit that I'm basing everything I know, on what you and the Kiss Ltd account have said in this very thread. (and I've seen a gameplay video of Bloop, but that doesn't really matter as much.)

You said yourself that the previous game was very poorly optimized compared to this one, had inferior visuals, and less gameplay features (but basically the same overall gameplay)

While it may be true that the original game is 2 years old, many people were not aware of it until a few weeks ago when it came to Steam, and were not made aware at the time that a newer, better "reloaded" version would be coming out in less than a month...

My main problem is the way you're mocking and laughing at the things that people say in this thread. Even if you didn't agree with what they were asking for, a nice person would say "Sorry, we won't be offering free or discounted copies of this game"... not "Do Electronic Arts give people who bought Fifa 14 a free copy of Fifa 15? lol!" People don't like being talked down to.. it's really not smart to treat your customers like that... and I'm willing to bet Valve wouldn't approve of that behavior.

Anyway, I was just saying that I think it's perfectly reasonable for them to ask for some kind of discount. You may not agree, but I think it would have been a nice gesture.. and it's certainly no reason to treat them like they're morons. Nobody is really going to care about your story where you helped one guy by adding him as a friend to chat about tech support.. sure that was cool of you, but it doesn't change the fact that other people may be feeling ripped off at the moment.. and that you're acting like a jerk on the discussion forum.

Maybe I should have used Call of Duty of GTA 5 as an example. I'm not mocking, just trying to point out that whilst Kiss are very fast to honour any previous bundle and the like it is not realistic to expect us to give a $9.99 game away to someone who has bought its predecessor for half that price. The fact is we were delighted but surprised when the original Bloop got Greenlit after 18 months, but had to rush release in the new year, as it would have been even more confusing to release that game after this one.

I don't really think anyone would be feeling ripped off that a game they bought has been rewritten from scratch and much improved. Those that cannot afford this version would still have a great experience with the old one, but these are two different games, just as GTA 4 and GTA 5 are two different games.

Hey, I never said the word Free.. I've been saying discount.

In fact, the only time I said "free" was when I said:
"Free? No, not necessarily.. but a coupon would've been a nice gesture that would earn you more loyal customers and less disgruntled ones."

And.... you've completely missed the point I was making on that rude comment earlier. The game you used in your example doesn't matter. It's the fact that you're answering a question with another question, which, in conversation would be spoken with a mocking tone. Especially since you added "lol!" to the end of it.

It's like if you asked somebody who didn't like your game at all if they'd be interested in buying it... and they answered "Do I look like the kind of person who buys ♥♥♥♥?" Instead of more politely answering "No, sorry, I didn't care for it"
Kiss Ltd  [developer] Feb 7, 2015 @ 12:14am
I always understood that lol was an indication of a light hearted comment made in a jokey form, not of a rude comment, So if you replied to your metaphorical question with "Do I look like the kind of person who buys ♥♥♥♥?" and followed it with a lol, I would know you were making a joke and not feel insulted at all. By the way, I worked on FIFA 98 The Road to the World Cup during a 4 year stretch at Ekectronic Arts, so I guess ts just part of my psyche.to joke about that franchise. I was not being rude, it was a simple question, in a jokey form, to ascertain whether you were seriously thinking we should give the game away free to people that had bought its predecessor. Others have asked the same question. Not mocking, just a little surprised that you would expect that.

With regards to a coupon, I'd be offering coupons to our loyal customers all the time if we had the opportunity, but unfortunately that is all controlled by Valve and its actually quite difficult to get that type of activity accepted these days, because I believe the general feeling was that people were being a bit overloaded with such offers.. I will make the request though.

Plug In Digital once did a giveaway of Steam codes that gave Steam discount coupons on activation (http://eu.alienwarearena.com/giveaways/4-in-1-indie-game-steam-discount-key-giveaway) so you might want to ask your Valve rep about that.
If you're really consider doing discount for previous owners, you can also use some service that gives a coupon code when valid Desura key is presented (like that service JetDogs made for their game http://steamcommunity.com/app/326180/discussions/0/619568708438522876/#c619569340996674379).

One of the reasons why I don't support crappy publishers like EA at all anymore. They've been pulling this off with Fifa for a long long time but then they started it do with the rest of their games too, including retarded premium passes for BF etc. Conclusion: I won't buy anything ever again from EA if they keep pulling crap like this. I thought it would be hard to ignore a publisher like EA but it's rather easy with all the fails they release lately :hmm:
