The "what games are you playing?" log thread

Thought it would be interesting to see what people have been playing. Maybe a good format would be listing what we've finished lately (be it beating or giving up on), what we're currently working on, and what we plan on playing next. A brief comment about each game would make the thread more substantive.

Recently finished/gave up on

Kirby Super Star Ultra-Finished most of it. Medicore at best IMO. I didn't unlock the last couple things as I didn't feel like playing through the helper boss rush over and over to just unlock another boss rush mode and a button mashing mini game

Soul Calibur IV- just not much into fighting games, through it on Goozex today as I hadn't touched it in a couple months.

Fight Night Round 3- got bored with Single player and my buddy and I are in the midst of Gears 2 so it won't get touched anytime soon.
The Darkness--I enjoyed it a good bit, a solid 8/10 I'd say.
Ninja Gaiden II--gave up in level 4. Action games just aren't my cup of tea
GTA IV-- I didn't care for this one, quit about 22hrs in.
Call of Duty 2- great game

Now Playing

Gears of War 2- beat it in solo on normal, about half way through a co-op with a friend on hardcore, and getting into the online modes

Oblivion- around 20 hours in a I think. Digging it a lot and will get back to in when I start to tire of Gears 2

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia- Got it for my b-day last week, just started it today and will probably play it a good bit next week when at my family's for thanksgiving since I won't have my 360.

Sonic Rush (DS)- not digging it much, never been much a fan of the Sonic series but gave it a whirl since it was 100 points on Goozex.

Up Next

The above will have me busy for a while, so I'm not planning on picking up anything anytime soon, nor asking for any games for X-mas. I have Fable II, Fallout 3, Dead Space and Call of Duty World at War on my Goozex requests, so those will be next. Doubt I'll get matched up for any of those for a few months though.

Just Finished...

Kirby Superstar Ultra -- I've basically completed the game, but still would like to do 100%.
Oueduan -- Received this from Goozex and finally beat it. Will still play from time-to-time on a whim.
Spore -- Got to space stage and quickly dumped it on Goozex. Bye!

Megaman 9 -- Beat all 9 robot bosses, just need to complete Wily's Castle. I'll be done with this once I beat it, no need for achievements.
Professor Layton and the Curious Village -- 90~ puzzles or so completed.
Orbital -- First 6 galaxies completed, working on the extras.
Wario Land: Shake It -- Only on the second section now, but this game is great!

Up Next...

Super Mario RPG -- I played this some probably 5-6 years ago and did not really like it, but figured I would give it another chance.
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door -- Don't know if/when I'll get around to this, but it was cheap on Goozex.
World of Goo -- I have been looking forward to this title for a long time, I just haven't purchased it yet because I really need to finish everything listed above first.
Secret of Mana -- No introduction needed.
Odin Sphere -- Will be receiving this from Goozex fairly soon, this might be a holiday title to play through.
Final Fantasy IV DS -- TRU B2G1 sale. I think I'll be saving this for my yearly ski trip in January.

I'm amazed, didn't have anything new to play for months then all of a sudden I'm hit with a bunch of new titles. I'm working hard to try and finish what I have now before picking up anything new. If I get distracted from a title I tend to not play it again, so I'm trying to avoid that if possible.

Just Finished

Persona 3 -- Took 92 hours of playtime and 14 months of real-time since I started it. I have FES in the wings, but am going to give it a rest for a while

Fallout -- Just getting in the mood for number 3!!

Suikoden V -- Only about 3 or 4 hours in. Had some problems with load times near the beginning, but I think it was just a bad spot on the disc. Not sure about this one yet but I'm going to give it some time.

Fallout 3 -- Will probably ditch everything else for a while when this hits

P3 FES -- Like a vulture circling above me I know I've got to play this, but after P3 I'm a bit burnt out on the series right now

Alone in the dark - I've promised myself that i have to finish this one. No matter how shitty it is. EDIT: No.. nonono this shit. Never in my life will i lay my hands on this piece of mothering crap again! TRADED IN!!
Warhammer online - I guess i'm just not the MMO kinda guy.

Halo 3 - I need to get this game again because i really loved the multiplayer. Damn i regret trading that game in.

Tales of Vesperia- amazing and sucking away my life. Best RPG I've played in a long long long long long time.

Duke Nukem 3D- Brings back very good memories and I like the idea of 8 player coop.

The Force Unleashed- It's alright, but they really needed to refine the combat much more. Right now, it feels like they should've consulted action game developer vets to make animations/combos smoother and more customizable.

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops- A solid attempt at a portable Metal Gear game, but there are elements of the gameplay that simply take away from realism (being able to cancel missions at any time without penalty for example)

Metal Gear Acid- I actually really liked Metal Gear Acid 2 and so I decided to go back and play MGA1, even though it's not supposed to be as good. So far, it seems okay, but I'm not impressed. I just started.

Soul Calibur 4- I've been playing this on and off, and it really is a lovely fighting game. Gorgeous graphics and deep enough combat.

Product Number 03- Frankly, I half hate this game. I just want to beat it and put it away, but I've convinced myself that I need to unlock the last powersuit. So, I'm playing again and it feels like work, but I really just can't help myself. It was kinda fun the first time through, though. I'm just sick of it right now.


Upcoming Games:

Tomb Raider: Underworld- This is the next game on the agenda and I like how it's shaping up. Could be good and could be a disappointment. I'm hoping for the former.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe- It's probably going to suck. But I'm getting it anyway.

Gears of War 2- Destined for greatness, I'm sure that I won't be disappointed. I still remember the sleepless nights of online play with the first one.

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition - I never got to finish the original. Won't make the same mistake with the upgrade. Awesome RPG is awesome, and reading the books alongside with playing the game makes it even sweeter.

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning - Not playing as much as before, but I'm still motivated to push onto Rank 40. Order, which I'm playing with, is starting to suck in scenarios though. Pick up the damn Relic you oafs!


Coming Soon:

Fable II - I'm resistant to being "Molyneuxed", but at $40 I bought the game from Amazon anyway.

Dead Space - This game is taking its sweet-ass time to get on PC, but hopefully it will be in my hands soon.

Gears of War 2 - If Horde mode is anything like Invasion in UT2003/2004, then this will keep me entertained for a good while.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Resident Evil 4 and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes - Picked up a GameCube for cheap. Now just waiting for some games and a memory card, then I can catch up on the last generation I wasn't part of.

Recently finished/gave up on

Bioshock - Finished it on hard w/o dying to get the brass balls achievement. I was pretty pissed because it didn't unlock immediately and I had to re-download the Ryan Industries DLC.

Bully: Scholarship Edition - I wanted to play this back on the PS2 when it came out, but I'm glad it found its way to my backlog. Looks great on the 360 although the glitchy errands are irritating. I put it away for the moment because I'm stuck at 99.05% and for the life of me can't figure out how to get the full 100%

Fight Night Round 3 - I haven't played a boxing game since Super Punch Out and was pretty impressed. Tried to make Rocky Balboa, but didn't have the patience for the character customization. An easy 1000 gamerscore in a few hours.

Spore - Customization is pretty deep and I think the only thing holding me back is playing on my laptop. I'll give it a break until I pickup a 24" iMac in the next couple months.

Now Playing

Dead Space - I'm on chapter 3 and it's fantastic so far. I keep getting startled (not to big on the survival horror genre) so I'm playing this in small increments at a time.

Castle Crashers - Awesome. Quasi deep with the character customization, co-op is fantastic, and its quite humorous at times.

DBZ Burst Limit - Decent for a DBZ game. I think the one's on the Wii were more interesting with the motion controls. Something to calm be down in between Dead Space sessions.

Final Fantasy IV - Although I already beat the SNES & PS1 releases the updated graphics have me coming back for a third go. The whole battling of the customized summon seems kinda tacked on in my opinion.

Fallout 3 - Can't wait to see how this release of the Fallout franchise turns out.

Spider Man: Web Of Shadows - 20th in line on Goozex and heard it was pretty good. Haven't played a Spider Man game since Maximum Carnage on SNES and heard good things about it.

Little Big Planet - Blasted recall.

No More Heroes - I always thought this game looked interesting, but couldn't bring myself to dish out the cash for it. Waiting for that magical pricepoint @ Target

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia - 4th in line on Goozex and super excited!

Doki Doki Majo Saiban 2 - ordered in during that sale on play-asia to see what everyone was talking about.

I think I've gotta go through my catalog (way too much like most CAGers) and show my PS2 and Wii some love.

GTAIV - Having a lot of fun with this game, even without doing too many of the sidequests (not particularly interested in them right now). About 52% done (without side missions), but a recent save glitch and only being able to play it about 2-3 hours a week is making it a slow, yet enjoyable, process.

Super Paper Mario - The 2D/3D feature is pretty cool, and the switch from turn-based battle (in The Thousand Year Door) to platforming is a nice change of pace

R&C Future: Tools of Destruction - Still early into this game as well. Fun and pretty. I was torn between getting this or getting Uncharted as part of the b2g1 deal at gamestop, but opted for this since it's a bit longer and because it might be more entertaining for other, less action game-oriented people in the apartment to enjoy.

Mario Kart Wii - Fun and frustrating at the same time. I've gotten more play out of this than I have out of SSBB so far. I suspect it may have something to do with having friends who enjoy Mario Kart, but do not enjoy Smash Bros. I wonder....

Metroid Prime 3 - Hoping this game is as enjoyable and fun as the reviews make it out to be.

I would like to put Gears of War 2 here, but I couldn't justify buying a new $60 game while I still have plenty of other entertaining games to work on, so I guess these will also be "up next":

Halo. I'm on the "two betrayals" level, where you have to backtrack the assault on the recon room level all over again.

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. Just started this game. Takes a bit getting used to but I like it so far.

Guitar Hero 3. I must have put tons of hours into this game, and i'm not finally getting to the last tier. Need to beat Raining Blood, One and Cliffs of Dover on Expert.

Rock Band. I pretty much blew through this first time playing, but I just can't complete Green Grass and High Tides on expert. WAY too long of a song.

Just Finished

Madden '09 - 1000/1000 GS. Fun game. It's Madden. You get the idea.

Fable II - Completed the main quest line, still need 10 more achievements to fully complete it. Great game, but only took me about 3 days or so to beat.

Currently Playing

Oblivion - 40 hours in so far and no sign of stopping yet. Completed the thieves guild, arena, and the dark brotherhood. Have 1 quest left to complete the fighters guild. Just starting the main quest line and the mages guild. This game is awesome.. The only bad thing about it is that it's so addicting, lol.

NCAA Football '09 - 2 achievements left to get the full 1000. Just need to find time to unlock them.

Call of Duty: World at War - Play the occasional MP session here and there. Its fun, but its no COD4. On a crappy day I'll probably dive into some single player action.

On Deck

Gears of War 2 - Waiting on a friend to pick it up so I can do some co-op.
SOCOM: Confrontation - Waiting on the trophy patch. This game will end up consuming my life once it comes out.
Animal Crossing: City Folk - Waiting on the completion of Oblivion.
Call of Duty 4 - Waiting on a friend's 360 to come in to get our big COD4 clan going again
Dreamcast / Games - Waiting on a good price to nab a system. And maybe some CD-Rs as well.

Fall Out 3 - I just don't like this game. Characters seem lifeless and the gameplay doesn't do anything for me.

Final Fantasy III - Really boring for me. Level Grinding is not for me, I just don't see the appeal in RPGs anymore.

Gears of War 2 - Just plain don't get the appeal to this game...

GTAIV - Everything about this game makes me want to kill myself. Annoying characters, ugly atmosphere, GRR!!!

Tetris Revolution - Fun game, tetris is timeless

Thankfully the bad games are borrowed, lol.
