fucking hell, I am so tired of Groupees and their relationship with Aldorlea. Aldorlea is a blight upon RPG Maker made games. They churn their shit out as fast as possible (look at all of their games, all made more or less in the past 4 years), then charge exorbitant prices for them while they call themselves "RPG and Adventure Specialists".

Their games are seriously nothing special. They're wrought with typos, ugly, badly drawn, inconsistent character art (some games have better art, but the Laxius Force series is awful), weak stories, unbalanced combat (go this way and you'll kill everything with one hit, go this way and you'll die with one hit), laughable level design (hey, let's stop you from going down this hallway by putting 10 pots in a row!), and so many other embarrassingly bad aspects, I'm not going to keep going into it.

They also don't always have their stuff on Desura, and even in the past when they've been asked about doing so, their answers sound like English isn't their first language (that bodes well for the storywriting in their games...) and their answers are kinda all over the place.

All in all, shitty company, shitty games, and they're Groupees' fucking go-to developer when they need a shitty bonus thrown in. Whee.
 Well...I guess I won't be bothering with it after all. I honestly didn't know about any of this, but consider my enthusiasm muted

To get slightly back on topic, I'd be really interested to know anyone who has played it's thoughts on Vox. I'd written it off before as yet another minecraft clone, but after watching some videos I'm actually somewhat interested. The customization looks really in depth and reminds me of 3D Dot Game Heroes, but I'm interested in whether the gameplay is as involved or fun. The videos I watched were from last year, so I'm not sure how much has been added or what has been tightened up. Nothing else is really jumping out at me, so I figured I'd ask or else I will just hold out for a one game minimum,

Meh... I was considering grabbing They Breathe, but after watching some stuff on it and reading reviews, the game doesn't look great, and I highly doubt it'll be Greenlit. Here are some reviews on Desura... The first is harsh and stupid, but probably quite accurate.

Godddddddd. Why'd I pay money for this?

You move a fucking dumb looking frog around the water, confined to the screen space, while dodging retard cows.

Not so fun. The graphics are otherwise excellent and I like the style just not the game.
I liked this game, but IT IS a massive waste of time.

The story and presentation is good, however, this is the worst 3 bucks I have ever spent.

Here is why.
Compelling doesn't automatically make the game’s story lasting. I feel like for my $3, I got a demo, not a full game. It gets me interested, then it just ends. There is noting answered, just a lot of desires left. Like I paid for a prostitute, but she got away just after unzipped my jeans.
This isn’t a game at all. Old adventure games have more gameplay than this. Graphic novels have more gameplay than this. Most game starts pretty casually, then it will start to throw in new monsters and mechanics after you got sucked in, then after a few mini bosses, you will have a finale, probably in space. This is more like the tutorial part of a game.
The control feels clunky, and unresponsive. This isn’t a survival horror game, there is nothing you want to risk dying to collect, and there are no people you care about. Sure, awful control makes the game more tense at times, but I just don’t think the ending worth all that trouble.

There are 2 types of games in this world, there are games that will make you learn something like dark souls, or special ops the line. Then there are games that are fun and make you satisfied and want to come back and play it again and again, such as super mario bros 3, or diablo 2.
Don’t breathe failed terribility on both fronts.

If the studio behind this game want a few constructive criticism, I can provide a couple free of charge.
Expend your ideas, combine different elements. Just because you had an awesome goofy nightmare, doesn’t make it worth to build an entire game on it. If they breathe has like 5 worlds, and each of them represents a type of terror, that is a game I would definitely love.
You are making a game, it needs to be fun at least. Randomness would make short games great. Like the binding of isaac and FTL are all good examples. Not to mention there should be some sort
The ratings given were 3 and 4 (out of 10), respectively. It just seems like something that was a nifty idea when it was thought up, but ultimately just isn't fun as a game. Definitely passing on that.

I think I'll be grabbing:

Rune

Vox

Pickers

Reef Shot

My thoughts exactly. ;)

Time to take a trip in the way-back machine™. All the way back to 13 months ago when Be Mine 3 was all the rage.

Postal 2 was included in BM3 as a bonus. I never bothered to redeem the desura key because I wasn't super interested in the game. But now the game has cards on steam, and I understand people who bought the game before it went to steam (even through a bundle) were given a steam key. So I thought, "great, free money if I redeem that key". Except that it isn't on my groupees account page.

Is this just a glitch on groupees part? Or was there another way that the steam keys were delivered?

I am pretty sure you must first redeem the Desura key. Then you go to a key list page on Desura and it gives you a Steam key.

From the top left Blue settings button on Desura: Click Help. Then from there choose Site Map. Then under the bolded Shopping: text, you will find a CD Keys link (click this.) You should see a page with tons of games. Under the options column you should see Play, Download, and Keys links next to the game's name. Click Keys and voila.

^ Yup, this is how Steam keys for Greenlit games are often dealt with. Then you have the rare instances (like La-Mulana) where Groupees gives you a key AND Desura gives you a key...

My word, what a convoluted procedure. Never in a million years would I have figured that out by myself. Thanks to your clear instructions though, I was able to claim & redeem my key with no problems at all.

Thank you very much for the help. :)

I was about to post "it's not *that* complicated, there's an Activate Key link at the bottom of every Desura page that lets you see your keys" but Desura seems to have removed the link - WTF!

As it is now, you can go directly to your Desura collection at http://www.desura.com/collection and click on Keys for the particular game you are looking for.

You click on the blue Desura tab on the top left now and "Activate CD Key" is under "Tools" in the dropdown box. It's still pretty painless.

I spent a couple of minutes trying to find that on the Desura website and finally realised you were talking about the client (which I rarely use).

Saw these hints from another forum, for the next bonus:

"Hints about last bonus -
It is
RPG
PC + MAC

someone, not me, described the game as "Sci-fi Skyrim"

it's on Steam Greenlight and, as is typical here, you'll get a Steam key if greenlit
never bundled before"

I'm thinking it'll be this game.. it was the last game to be added to the groupees greenlight collection page:

hmm that looks like it has potential. If it is the game though I really hope they were smart enough to put a first person view. Playing Skyrim or Fallout in third person is painful :headache:

So it looks like Exoplanet: First Contact is still in alpha stage, so if that is the bonus, maybe we'll get an alpha build of it for now. It's all just a guess though, could be another game, but that does fit the hints.

I wouldnt bet on that. Depends how dickish the company wants to be. Akiniero was given out as a bonus during a greenlight groupees bundle, but they didnt give steam keys to the bundle purchases since they said they were a bonus and never said they would give keys.

Hopefully they wont be like that though or it will explicitly say you get a steam key

That hint came from Jonny (Admin). You will get a Steam key if it's greenlit.

Oh, and the next Groupees bundle will have a Japanese theme. All of the games will be from Japanese developers.

Only bought Rune Classic. Vox seemed interesting,, but not for my tastes.

Also, anyone bought the gamesrage bundle? I'm curious to know the download size for the installers. Keys have been promised if on Desura/Steam, but perhaps they won't. Mostly buying in for Oddplanet and Cinders.

I didn't BTA 'cause I'm not interested in Cinders, but the rest are ~64MB for OddPlanet, ~132MB for The Few, ~60MB for King Arthur's Gold, and ~540MB for Nightmares. The Cinders demo is ~70MB but most likely it doesn't include the whole game data. Hope this helps.

For what its worth I asked the Cinders dev via Twitter and he has no plans to put it on Desura. Greenlight almost a maybe, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Just thought I'd share for those wondering, I was a bit disappointed to learn it.

More than enough information. Totally doable for online backup, even on a free Dropbox. Thanks for that.

I'll look into cinders more before I commit then. No desura, and a maybe on the greenlight? Very odd for what seems like a mainstay for indie publishing lately.
