PlayStation 4 Pre-Order Thread *GREATNESS OUT NOW!*

Just wanted to point out. No DLNA support. NO MP3 support. No .mkv support. Pretty big deal.
I think I'm just ignorant - why is this a big deal? are people really using their ps3 as media servers or something? I had to actually look up mkv, so shows that I'm clearly not the target here - but isn't there a trillion other ways to watch/manage this stuff?

They use PS3 as the client to play media. DLNA enables that. Lack of MP3 support is pretty big to many folks, the only way to play music will be through the pay service Sony offers or maybe AAC or some other format. It doesn't say. The reason it's surprising is because the PS3 had such great support. When they said it is a gaming machine, they weren't kidding.

fair enough. I'm personally all for it being a 100% focused gaming device (although since I use my ps3 for netflix/hulu/etc I wouldn't be upset if that was still available), but I know they threw the kitchen sink into the ps3 (including the linux support for a while) so there's probably a lot of folks doing wacky and not-so-wacky stuff with it that I didn't even know was possible.

And I'll take one step further back and be a little surprised by the disk caching - is the whole disc getting loaded for every retail title then? because daymn. 500gb won't last long at all.

I think this is true for both consoles. These things are going to need 2-3TB eventually.

No MP3 support sucks, I'm not paying for Unlimited. You can't change your psn ID either, I know some people really wanted to be able to.

I knew they wouldn't support MKVs, but I wonder if files converted through MKV2VOB would work. It doesn't matter much to me as I've been using XBMC on the Ouya as a media box for most of the summer.

I'm a little POed that the Blu-ray remote is not going to work. I was hoping for the PS4 to be my main Blu-ray player and I don't want to buy another remote.

I always figured Sony took out the camera and charged for online to beat the Xbox One price, so no shock there. But, DRM?! UGH! It's going to be interesting to see what those geeks find once they release these consoles.

This might be troubling for some:

"Can my child’s PS3 sub-account be changed to a master account on PS4 once they are past the age of 18?

Unfortunately, no. In this case, we would advise creating a new master account. We apologize for the inconvenience."

DRM? WHERE!?!?

Ugh. I was afraid of this happening. I have a sub that I made before I was 18. I had Plus for about 2 years, but then Sony stopped allowing you to subscribe to Plus with a sub account. I lost all the PS Plus games.

Now I can't decide if I should continue playing on the sub account (since I have all the trophies on there) or starting anew with the primary account that I have.

I think its Brilliant that Sony is shipping out the controllers and accessories early. I wonder how many extra DS4's they've sold to people who weren't planning on getting a 2nd - just because they were so psyched for the console launch.

Seems a bit weird that Sony would respond to some random YouTube vid, let alone use the word 'stupid'.

'Supposedly', the DRM that they 'were' going to implement, until they saw the response that other thing got, will be removed with an update.

You're right. Sony wouldn't respond to some random YT vid. That video definitely has truth to it then. I'm assuming the DRM will be removed with the launch update?

Im pretty confident BB will ship the COD orders since they shipped the free GTA 5's. Sucks that I got the 360 version though, and what happened to your cute cat avatar Timbo? haha.

I also cancelled my Bone order on amazon, I was gonna list it on ebay but I dont think its worth it with all the scammers on there, plus you dont know the failure rate of these thing so I dont want to deal with that potential headache
I am on the fence about cancelling my x1 order but I think I might and just get the ps4 for now.

That's what I did. PS4 and my backlog should keep my gaming time more than filled until a bundle comes out on XB1 next holiday season. Frees up a bunch of Amazon Credit for christmas this year.

Sony didnt. A person who works for sony posted on the twitter.

Not exactly like sony came out and said it was stupid.

Quit spreading FUD, this video has been blasted for complete nonsense / click bait. The video claims Sonys 1.50 patch removes DRM, except 1 prob, you don't need to apply the patch to play retail games. The other big thing is that Call of Duty is 720p on the PS4 because of network issues. That makes no sense and Call of Duty was confirmed today to be 1080p native on the PS4 while 720p upscaled to 1080p on the bone. I've seen you post this in several threads, stop it, you're as bad as the moron who made the video.

Also the dumbass that made that video backtracks big time in this follow up video.

First of all, fuck CKKKKKKKK YOU.

Second, I shall go read this.

There's a lot of BS in that FAQ, hoping Sony fixes these dumb moves in a furture firmware update. I'm also looking foward to seeing the COD comparison vids, that should be fun lol

Cancelling my BF4 bundle from Amazon.

Launch is just so underwhelming for me. I'll get one when Destiny comes out.
And you call yourself a Sony fanboy? SMH....

^i'm sure that stalker troll thing had something to say. Thank goodness for iggy.

What are the chances PS4 will be hard to find? I've built enough credit for my Wii U, my Zelda XL, and a PS4 if I choose.

Stalker troll thing??? Dont flatter yourself, you'd be the last person I'd stalk on this forum with all the dumb shit you post on the daily. Plus I didn't even mention you in that previous post I made you moron.

Just watched that TechReviewerUSA video. Wow, this guy must be high or just a view bait whore. He doesn't even try to say he got his facts wrong but blames his source instead. Really now.

His fans are no better than pewdiepie. Actually standing up for his bullshit.

I for one and keeping my pre-order since I am mainly getting the system for games of course, but I am pretty disappointed that they are no longer supporting DLNA/media streaming from PCs for videos or MP3s for crying out loud! I don't mind it not playing audio cds since I just rip those to my comp anyways but how in the world can it not play MP3s? It just feels pretty shady of them since this is obviously their way of trying to get people to sign up for Music Unlimited service and use their video rental service along with their partners such as Netflix, Hulu Plus, etc. I will admit I haven't used streaming video in a long while since I have Netflix and buy most movies I like on bluray, but mp3s are always perfect for parties or get togethers. I currently subscribe to Music Unlimited but only because I got in on the $20 year subscription deal last year. While a cool service there is no way I would pay $50 for it when time is up to renew.

I guess it is possible the PS4 can support other audio types but the fact they didn't mention that makes me wary. Some games like Killzone: Shadow Fall are offering the soundtrack as a pre-order bonus so it will be interesting to see how that is handled. Hopefully with enough complaints and the lack of any extra people signing up for Music Unlimited they will patch these features back in. If not I was planning on getting an Xbox One one of these days, I will probably just end up using that for my media entertainment PC streaming and music playing wise. Sorry for the long rant but this caught me off guard since the PS3 can do this stuff.

Odd, the DS4 shows in-stock at Amazon and available for one-day shipping, but my pre-order status hasn't changed from Nov. 15th.

Well, Yoshida has responded to the backlash, hopefully they patch this.

I think everything is just a work in progress, they have another 8 years to patch it into the console. This is pretty much what we look forward to every year at E3, new games, and new firmware update features. We got a ton of stuff during the PS3 era, trophies, in-game xmb, 3D games/movies, BD Live 2.0, Partial PS2 emulation on all PS3s, etc...

PS3 actually didn't get DLNA support until firmware 1.80 on March 24, 2007.

Lots of things were patched later into the PS3.  DTS HD MA was patched in.  3d blu ray playback was also patched in later.  Plus, everyone's favorite DRM, Cinavia, was also patched in later for blu rays and DLNA streaming.  (Yay?)

So there's always a chance the PS4 will get a patch for DLNA.  The thing is the patches kept making the streaming to PS3 less and less stable for me to the point where I finally gave up and just hooked my PC up to my HDTV to save myself the headache.

Back in the day, I used to love PS3 Media Server (and later Universal Media Server which was a fork off it).

The lack of mp3 music support and support for external hard drives is really just sad, but the latter one is probably due to the fact they're basically locking the console down to either streaming from an approved service OR running a blu-ray for media playback.  They won't even let you play a CD and that should be easy as pie to implement.  They're trying to limit how many things you can do to keep support costs for the console low.

Truth is, I just want my gaming console to game.  I don't have any CD's to play, I have three PC's that have optical drives (and I may have a CD player somewhere around here) if I wanted to play CD's, etc.  I think Sony's focus being on gaming is refreshing when compared to the "other guys" who are lost trying to turn consoles into some kind of almost-DVR device.

Without the media playback that might make it worthwhile, external hard drives are kinda worthless to the PS4.  The ability to swap out the internal drive for a faster SSD is hot, though.  Access times are going to FLY.

i hope a store opens up day one ps4 pre orders or have some on launch day thanks to gamestop open preorders for x1 again i decided to trade in un needed games and ps3 and all the stuff i had for ps3 to get x1 for just under 150 bucks so now i want both at launch.

Leaving out remote play features is kind of a shame when it seems like everything that connects to your TV supports them now but I honestly wonder how many people actually use them. I'm sure Sony has some kind of numbers they've gathered to actually back that decision.

Seems a bit weird that Sony would respond to some random YouTube vid, let alone use the word 'stupid'.

I find it appropriate with that picture of himself he had in the corner the whole video and that I feel far more stupid having watched it. I bet if I pointed out to him that consoles themselves are DRM that I would blow his mind. Also why am I watching him play Fathreer while making the mistake of listening to it?

Mine didn't update until it shipped and arrived today.

I need someone that wants a Xone in like two months just so I can play Forza and Dead Rising until something comes out on PS4 that I want.

Doing the same. No reason to spend $530 now when I can't even play with half my friends since they aren't going next gen yet. I picked up AC:BF for PS3 and I'll do the $10 upgrade later.

So i screwed up and waited, no one has preorders I am assuming? How about stores that did not do preorders?

I might be able to hook you up. Anyone know how to give amazon pre-order to another person??

EDIT: or is it i just change the addy to his and it gets shipped to him?
