GGT 292: The Official Final Fantasy XIII Strategy Thread

Whoa Shadow Warrior for $9.99 already.  Very tempting.  I know I want it, but I have other things I'm playing, and it may still be cheaper next year.

That's kind of how I feel whenever I play a NSMB game (even the good ones ie. Wii and WiiU), but then I play something like 3D World or Galaxy and I'm like "nope they've still got it". However, those games tend to be spread out more compared to the less innovative stuff, most likely because developing those kind of ideas probably take a lot more time and effort than retreading old ground. The fact is they've been pumping out first party games like crazy lately, so I can't fault them if not every single game feels like a new experience. As long as we keep getting things like Wonderful 101 and 3D World in addition to those less exciting releases (which to be honest, are probably still exciting for younger generations that didn't grow up with 2D Mario like we did), I'm not gonna complain.
It's a catch-22 for Nintendo...they have these iconic characters and IPs that are their bread and butter and we expect them to make these games over for their newest hardware, but this leaves them little resources to make other kinds of games. They really do need to develop better relationships with third parties as well as try to expand their original IP universe. As fans/gamers, we want Nintendo to make updated versions of their games, but at the same time, we want them to make new things and implement advanced technologies into those games. I dunno exactly why it is harder for them compared to Sony and Microsoft, but I suspect it's because Nintendo hasn't acquired devs like Sony has Naughty Dog, etc. or MS has Turn 10, etc..

Yeah, I think one reason it's hard for Nintendo to get third party support is that third party games typically don't sell well on Nintendo platforms and are overshadowed by first party games. This leads to third party developers not putting a lot of top tier games on Nintendo consoles, which in turn leads to the lower quality, low budget, or niche games filling up most of the third party library on a Nintendo console, which are just not gonna sell well, which continues to perpetuate this cycle. Even if one or two high quality third party games are released on a Nintendo console, that's not gonna be enough to drive the kind of people who play those games to the console instead of the Sony or Microsoft platform. This makes it hard to get any momentum going for Nintendo to attract high quality third party games. It also doesn't help that both the Wii and the WiiU aren't at the same level of tech as the competition, which would make multiplatform development more difficult on the Nintendo consoles.

Nintendo is like McDonald's. Shit was awesome as a kid, but kinda sucks as an adult.
They also don't know how to change with the times so people are starting to not care.

Wait, I take that back, McDonalds has a Jalapeno burger now. Delicious.

McDonald's went full bore with their McCafe shit. Smart move, people love coffee. Can't argue with a large coffee for a buck.

Nintendo went with outdated and overpriced technology and gimmicks. It's starting to bite them in the ass.

Here's a protip, fuckers. Make good games that don't rely on gimmicks. Great gameplay is timeless, gimmicks are not.

Get that touchscreen shit outta my face. :nottalking:

Zelda Dynasty Warriors is their answer to no one buying the Wii U.

I mean it'll be the best game on the console, but still...

I'm going to watch Anchorman 2 in a bit. Hope it doesn't suck.

I wish FF: Spirits Within came back to theaters but in 3D.

Man, starting R&C for the first time? That's going to be great. Going Commando is some god tier gaming.
Ha, good to see someone mention that and not just all the Nintendo stuff I posted :p. But yeah, from the little I played so far I really enjoy the first one, hearing that it only gets better (at least up to Going Commando) is great, definitely looking forward to playing these games!

Zelda Musou will only be dope if I can play as Sheik.
Yeah, I hope it will have a fair amount of characters and even online since the last few Musou games have had it, either way it's a day one for me though.

Zelda game looks fun. Couldn't care less about Rosalina. Hunny Queen for smash bros pls
Zelda game does look fun! I'm indifferent about Rosalina but the way she plays looks pretty fun.

Are there any good, cheap WiiMotes? + how essential is Motion Plus?
You can get the refurbs off on Nintendos Website, they come with a nunchuck as well. Motion Plus is needed in a fair amount of games and is nicer then the original controllers, I'd recommend one: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/324351-refurbished-wiimote-and-nunchuck-for-20-from-nintendo/

If you don't want refurbs you can watch for dingers on the Amazon Warehouse, I saw some of those Mario special edition ones show up for some good prices there.
