Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

No, it's not remotely the same. Voluntarily buying some games at full price is not even a little teeny bit like being physically assaulted.

This isn't some "OMG Women's Issues!" thing, it's just a question of perspective. Comparisons like that make people look touched in the head. They're video games. It's disposable entertainment. A luxury item. Completely unnecessary for you to buy or own. EA isn't "mistreating" you by offering a game for $60 with additional DLC; they're putting out an option for you as a consumer to accept or turn down. There's no room for a sane comparison to being attacked by a spouse or partner. It's just a stupid comparison that makes people look WAY too obsessed with friggin' video games.

Single Jewish Woman?
This will be my last response to you on this topic...Maybe you've been physically assaulted or know someone who has, but if you can't take general comments on a forum on the Internet without assuming what someone is getting at, I can't help you at all. This is a CAG forum for cheap video games. Why the sudden seriousness?

Not sure why you bother attacking the abuse comment. Obviously, you want to be a SJW for the physically abused.

I know full well real physical assault is not the same as not getting a silly video game deal. My point if you look at my original post is that companies are there to make money (stock chart...EA / ATVI are doing plenty well). If you or anyone doesn't like it, tough. To NOT encourage them to charge FULL price, again, simply don't buy it and they either have to lower the price or just don't sell anymore units. Buying it is just like going back for more abuse because they will simply charge more or never lower prices more again because people are buying. If you don't like my comparison, boo hoo, tough for you...I simply don't care what you think.

As good as the ME2 + Bioware points deal is, it's not CAG enough for me so I'd have to pass...

Feel free to have the last word since I know you can't help yourself...

I am. Then the cops come and I say "At least I'm not EA, right?" and they say "Haha, Day One DLC, am I right?" Then we laugh and laugh.

Then they arrest me, cause they're still cops.
Who the hell was talking to you. Go make me a sandwich bitch!

Yeah, you get him. No avatar. What a loser.
Love your avatar by the way. So sexy. Hrngh!

I'm confused.  Does wanting to punch this thread make me a social justice warrior or an abuse advocate?

Oh well, i'll be back on Friday to gloat about the 5 Sims packs I just bought.

It's a pretty bad analogy.  Funny how you try to compare two random completely unrelated things then if anyone calls you out on it you just label them a 'SJW' and move on.

Bottom line:  EA's dlc policies are terrible.  If you buy dlc from them the cops may or may not come to your house and beat up your spouse.  Or something like that.

It depends on how often you have sex with your computer.

Well someone was trying to make the point that either you're Pro-Domestic Violence or you're a Social Justice Warrior (supposedly a pejorative term). And well, you really don't want to be a SJW...

...yeah... open mouth, insert foot.

Foot tastes awesome.

I thought domestic violence was social justice.

[customspoiler=?]Totally kidding. Abusing a spouse/parnter is totally a cowards act.[/customspoiler]

Ummm.... No. No, it wouldn't. Not even a little.

I'm all for smart consumer choices but overpaying on your discretionary entertainment budget is not even a little bit like domestic physical assault
How dare you discount the horrors I've gone through! Just the other day I decided to download Origin and the moment I signed in a guy showed up at my door and forcefully abused me while wearing an EA hat. He then quickly departed only stopping to tell me Battlefield 4 Premium was now available to purchase and to expect to see him return with each new map released.

Needless to say this was quite traumatizing, so if you will excuse me I need to get to counseling...

[customspoiler='?']This is all a joke, please don't take this seriously. Domestic abuse isn't a laughing matter.[/customspoiler]

Ah, so like white knighting its a defensive term tossed out to deflect criticism away from one's own idiotic asshattery. Got it. Thanks.

Ironically, I would have said the same if someone compared EA to your house burning down or your home being robbed or your horse being stabbed or some other ridiculously over the top thing.  My point of contention was people who apparently lack any sense of perspective and make gamers look like a bunch of obsessed retards who equivocate "My viddya game costs too much!" with personal tragedy.  From which, of course, we get "EA is the worst company in America!"

But it's easier to yell out "SJW!" than to admit to that, I guess.

Was that me getting the last word?  Oh, damn, I fell right into that clever trap where I lose by speaking.  Shucky-darn, this is just like having an orphanage get hit by a truck full of kittens.

How dare you! My kittens died from the impact with those damn orphans.

Just got Minecraft for $17. I Can't believe it took this long for me to get it.

I'm confused are we supposed to hate EA or hate the people who hate EA?

What about weeaboos with Pokemon avatars who have Gamefaqs PTSD?

Well it's good damn thing that when I activated Toki Tori 2+ that it gave me a coupon for 10% off Toki Tori 2+ just incase I wanted to throw away money and buy it again for no reason. fuck! Damn it posted in the wrong thread.

I was thinking the same thing, only I would have posted it in the right thread!

A general hate is generally accepted.
My hate is general, I detest all men;
Some because they are wicked and do evil,
Others because they tolerate the wicked,
Refusing them the active vigorous scorn
Which vice should stimulate in virtuous minds.

--Alceste in Molière’s Le Misanthrope

Busting out the Molière. Nice.

Three coupons left.  So far from the EC list I've picked up:

Crysis 3
Dead Space 3
Dead Space 3: Awakened
The Secret World
How to Survive
Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death
Need for Speed Most Wanted - Standard Edition
Syndicate/ Saboteur Bundle

On 1-26 I'll probably pick up the BP Vehicle Pack...

That will leave 2.   Hoping for something cool I don't see on the OP.
