This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

 • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
 • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
 • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
 • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
 • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
 • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Completed the achievements in Banjo-Tooie, but have not acquired all the collectibles. Beat the final boss short 3 Jiggies and 1 Cheato page. If you're familiar with the game, it won't be difficult to guess 1 of the Jiggies and the Cheato page I'm missing. I did pick up another Jiggy after beating the game by finding the last Jinjo. The 3rd Jiggy has me stumped. I know where it is, but getting to it is the trick. When I started the game, I'd forgotten how large and intertwined the game's levels are, and I don't know if the path to that area is in the same level or linked from one of the other levels. I thought I'd need to break down and check a FAQ a few times, but was able to track everything else down, so I'd prefer not giving in on this one.

One of my cousins had E.T. when I was growing up, so I got to play it a little bit, but could never figure out what to do. Perhaps if I had been able to read the manual. But I usually just played Dodge 'Em.
I always got lost in Tooie. Kazooie was pretty straight forward, but Tooie was like a puzzle and I just couldn't get into it. Might give it another shot soon.

I had the same experience with E.T.

Project Spark Info.

Videos from this weekend are up (I'll post one here every Sunday). I recorded 5, but only decided to upload 3. There was a sweet Halo one with most of the enemy types, but it wouldn't record. One of the more interesting ones was a Mario Bros clone. It is really well made with classic Mario music, but the hit detection on the goombas is horrible. You have to jump on the exact center of their head or you die. I ended up avoiding them for the rest of the level after getting murdered at the start. Fireball doesn't bounce yet and pipes don't work. I tried most of them. One of the pipes start to change music though when I was on it, so maybe that will be added in soon. Next week I'll try to find a good original game. Clones/Remakes are nice, but the original ones are where people can really show off their creativity.

I also noticed a problem with Project Spark. There are several versions of the same game when you search. So when I see something like Mario Bros in top downloaded, that probably isn't the latest version of the game. There needs to be a way for them to update the version you have or replace the older version when searching. Maybe there is and I just don't know about it yet.

Either most of that money went to marketing, or it was embezzled. That's the only explanation. The whole reason it was so bad is because it was pushed out in like 4 weeks.
I believe, but could be wrong, that that figure isn't exactly the budget but assumed losses. Remember they had planned and expected to sell 5 million copies and obviously manufactured millions more than the 1.5 million they sold, hence why they had to throw them in a landfill in New Mexico. I expect that that money wasn't spent money but just inflated for accounting reasons as business losses. There's no possible way that $125 million was spent on the game or the marketing of it. E.T. the movie had a budget of $10 million and it's a movie that had heaps more work done on it than what was done on the game.

That game was a bad experience as a kid.  Since it was before the internet, you had no way to know that it was just a crap game.  You KNEW that it MUST be a great game since it was ET, after all.  Your only option was to believe you were too stupid to figure out how to play it.

Both ET and Pac-Man being rushed to shipping with about six weeks each to be made is one of the major reasons why Atari lost a ton of money and the console side of the industry went down the toilet. Atari did the single most arrogant thing any platform holder has ever done by putting all of their chips on ET and manufacturing more cartridges than consoles existed, which spiraled out of control with a general recklessness amongst the other consoles that lead to the bubble popping pretty badly.

Definitely know which Jiggy and Cheato page you're missing. Spent countless hours trying to get them as a kid and never succeeding in accomplishing anything more than hurting my hands.

Tooie is quite huge compared to the original. Almost too big in my opinion, it's one of the reasons I prefer the original. Though both are amazing games.

Could not have said it better myself. So when's the next ET coming? :p

Random question: Is there a way to find out when a code for XBL points/subscription has been redeemed? Would the process (if it exists) involve contacting Microsoft?

If you put the code into the Redeem section on the website, it'll tell you what it's for before you click "Confirm" and actually redeem it.

Well Hollywood remade every other movie/cartoon from the 80s so it's time they did an ET movie/game remake.
Can't wait for the next video game crash then. :bouncy:

Sorry, I should have been clearer--I wasn't asking for if a code has been redeemed, but when it had been. I sold a brand-new kit that includes 1-year Live and 400 MSP codes to someone on Amazon and they're claiming that the code doesn't work. They sent over images of the code, so I was hoping there was a way I could tell if they're telling the truth or trying to scam me.

Ah, that blows. Yeah, you'd have to contact Microsoft on that one.

Did you mail them the kit or did you simply e-mail them the codes?

I mailed the kit, which I bought from a Toys-R-Us and didn't touch in any way. It looked brand-new to me.

Also, the buyer says that the headset included in the kit arrived with a part missing, which kind of freaks me out somewhat (assuming they're telling the truth). I mean, if they were trying to scam me, why wouldn't the buyer contact Amazon directly, claiming the codes don't work?

I got the Jiggy on the N64, but not the Cheato. Gave a few tries on XBLA, but after spending a few hours finishing up the rest of the game, my heart and hands weren't feeling up to the challenge / frustration.

I definitely had that "it's almost too big for its own good" feeling about the game back on the N64. When some people last week were saying they felt burned out or overwhelmed by Arkham City after Asylum, I thought about saying "try the Banjo games".

Well Hollywood remade every other movie/cartoon from the 80s so it's time they did an ET movie/game remake.
Gotta get Rubik the Amazing Cube out first. Wonder if the Kinect can track hand and finger movements well enough for that.

Can't wait for the next video game crash then. :bouncy:
Weren't analysts calling for it at the start of this generation? Not gonna happen for a while, though.

Next week is Child of Light. Can anyone confirm it IS $15 on X1? x360a has it at $20 in their latest but someone who prebought it on PS4 said it was $15.

Trying to scare you into buying them a new code.

Trying to scare you into buying them a new code.
This. It does happen that a user attempts to fake that his code didn't work, in the hopes that they get another one free - since, once the code is redeemed, there is no way to prove when that happened and who did it. If you are sure your code was unused, then the kid's attempting a scam, but for future references, you should check whether the codes you sell are unused by the input-without-confirming method BobbyTastic mentioned. In this way you'll know for sure your code is unused and if your buyer's complaining, he's just either dumb and didn't find how to redeem, or is indeed attempting a scam.

Case in point I once sold a pack of Live Gold codes on a website, containing multiple codes ranging from 48 hours to 2 weeks. All of the codes were working, some came from sealed copies of games bought days before, and the user claimed that the highest value ones (the 1 and 2 week ones) were not working. Totally believable, right?

I played a few lag/connection free games of Warface yesterday and it was pretty fun. I really like the teamwork aspect of it, with the whole partner climb and class system. I pick the medic everytime now that I unlocked it lol.

^^^  Because of stories like these, I have never sold and will never sell Live Gold codes online.  Too much drama for what it's worth.

I'd rather give them away for free to people on my friends list.  At least I know I've made someone happy and can sleep soundly at night without wondering if someone is going to stab me in the back.

Excited to hear what the new GwG might be.  Guessing it'll be something my friends already own so I can continue to rub it in their faces for wasting their money.  Lol.  Just completed all cheeves for Dungeon Defenders.  Haven't started Deadlight yet.

It looks like the first GwG of next month is going to be Dust: An Elysian Tail. The second one we have no idea about.

When you put basic services like online play behind a paywall, you are just going to attract the dregs of society. I'm glad Microsoft scrapped their short-lived $99 Xbox layaway plan. That couldn't have been good, if there were people who thought that might be a worthwhile purchase.

Tried out Deadlight last night and I got tired of it after about 15 minutes. I am soooo done with zombie apocalypse stories at this point. If the platforming does get difficult/frustrating as the game goes on, I probably won't even bother putting in the 3 hours to finish it.

So how many people will see Major Nelson's tweet about Xbox Originals coming and mistakenly think backwards compatibility is coming to the Xbox One?

I use Netflix, so I immediately thought of original TV shows. I don't think I've heard anybody use the term Xbox Originals in a few years now, but I can see how somebody might think about them.

But the codes were in a starter kit that I didn't want to open lest I lower its value (I sold it in New condition).

Codes that have been redeemed can be checked out by a Microsoft rep. They have done it for me several times. They can tell you when it was redeemed.
I did this this morning, and guess what? At least one of the two codes (the other was unreadable in the blurry pic sent by the buyer) wasn't redeemed yet. I sent a message to the buyer stating what the rep told me (plus I have a transcript of the chat wherein the rep confirms the code is still redeemable), so we'll see what happens now.

Thanks for all your help with this, guys.

Yeah, if it was new and SEALED, I very highly doubt it was used. But I understand why you were hesitant to open up the box yourself.

I'm glad your story will have a happy ending after all though. I would report the buyer if their response seems like bs, as well.

The box looked sealed to me, and even if it wasn't, I didn't want to risk damaging or adding visible wear to the box.

Just in case, how would I report a buyer on Amazon? I haven't done that before.

Wow, they picked a terrible name for their TV-brand. I thought they were porting stuff like Psychonauts, Jade Empire and the like to the Xbone. :whistle2:( Disappointing.
It's Microsoft, of course its a terrible name. Think about it this way, they named the 3rd xbox the Xbox One. Then they introduce Xbox Originals for the Xbox One which has nothing to do with the Xbox One playing original games from the actual Xbox 1. Why call it the Xbox One? because it's the ONE device you need for all of your entertainment...along with a TV and a cable/satellite box, but that would mean you would actually need 3 devices for all of your entertainment and calling it the Xbox Three would just make no sense at all.

No idea. Talk to Amazon CS, I'm sure they can help.

I'm out of "likes", so *like*.

Anyways, a bunch of interesting gaming news today:

Wolf Among Us is going to be released on PS4/Xbox One, along with The Walking Dead according to a retailer listing (GameFly)

Gears of War, Fable, Forza and State of Decay are all teased to be getting TV shows as part of Xbox Originals.

Mass Effect Trilogy release for Xbox One/PS4 got leaked by a retailer.

From Software (Souls/Armored Core dev) got bought by Kadokawa Games

and last but not least, all existing Star Wars games are officially non-canon as determined by Lucasfilm. Except for the ones being made in the future, of course. :p

fuck outta here. The entire Han rescue sequence and everything involving Luke, Vader, and Palps is absolutely classic shit.
absolutely. the "original" Jabba's palace, pre-Lucastoonization was awesome. And as annoying as the Ewoks seem now, they were pretty cool to a 10 year old in '83. Besides, I'd take a wub-nub song over any of the pixar reject shiny toons of the prequels.

No rancor = bad

They need to make one of the movies about a rancor that becomes Jedi.

EDIT: I meant that as, No rancor as the star of the movie = bad

Holy Shit! You don't visit this thread for a day, and it goes completely insane? Are we really talking about Star Wars in a thread about Xbox Live? This is why Microsoft needs to have decent sales every week. To keep this thread maintained and to make me rich in gaming, but extremely poor and the verge of bankruptcy in real life.

Can I please have faith that Abrams will save Star Wars? Please?
I was going to post some image involving Palpatine's "faith in your friends" line from RotJ, but I couldn't find a good one, so here's a picture of a baby bunny instead:

And I'm reserving judgment for Abrams' Star Wars vision until I see the first trailer and plot description.

And Ewoks beating the clones with sticks and rocks?
Boba Fett being "defeated" so easily by a blind Han Solo c'mon (even though he didn't die)
Then there is the whole Luke and Leia are brother and sister thing, but Yoda waited until now to say it.

VI is right there with 2 and 3.

Episode 1 is in it's own category of stink. Darth Maul was great, until they decided to cut him and half and not have him appear in the next 2 films.

As far as the Darth Maul fight, George Lucas was gritting his teeth as he begrudgingly put 10 minutes of watchable material in Episode 1 so that he could kick the audience in the proverbial balls once more by killing what would be the only cool sith character in the entire prequel trilogy.

There's nothing wrong with the prequels.

Come at me
Well see, you say "nothing" and that just opens yourself right up. You could say "I enjoyed the prequels", or "While they deviated from the originals I think the prequels had their own merits", or "I believe that many people have a disproportionate view of the prequels because of their passion for the original movies" and no one could argue with you. Call you names sure, but not argue with you.
