Destiny (PS3/PS4) Official Thread

Now I am back on the fence with the thought of such small worlds and so few of them... If the final game is 10 worlds each about the size of what we have seen then I am going to be disappointed. Hopefully they will have more content and not just paid expansions later on.

Destiny: List of All the 32 Missions, 23 Strikes, 5 Areas, 11 Crucible Maps and More Discovered So Far

Destiny‘s beta is close to its end, even if all we have from Bungie is a “today” estimation, and Reddit user KingOfCarrotFlowers put together a list of all the maps and missions that have been discovered thus far and featured on DestinyDB after being data mined from the beta and companion app.

It’s important to keep in mind that this list is not necessarily complete, since more could be added before release, and it has to be considered only a rumor, because of the nature of data mining. It’s not information officially released by Bungie, so it should be taken with a grain of salt.

I didn't get around to playing until last night. Pretty disappointed it was the same area, and in one case the same mission as the alpha. I guess I missed the moon thing.

Very disappointing. Especially since the Beta was literally all of Earth. :whistle2:?
Im sad about the new revelation too, but when playing Old Russia if you head too far out it tells you to turn back, so its not like we had access to the whole area in the beta. Im sure there will be some DLC released that will take place in other areas of earth.

I'm sure they'll add content via DLC but at the end of the day we'll have to wait and see.
Of course they are. It's $35 for the season pass.

I think this is yet another game where the hype machine ensures that expectations will not be met. If Bungie was more honest about what the game is, less people would be disappointed.

You've got the game on the cover of magazines with the line, "THE STAGGERING SCOPE OF DESTINY." It's just a first person shooter game with levels, and 3-4 player coop, and standard multiplayer.

Reading that original cover story on Destiny, you'd think the game was the second coming of Christ.

I'm pretty happy with what I've played so far and I'm keeping in mind that this is only the beta. It's like reading part of a chapter from a book that's not even finished.

What I've played so far kept me more entertained than anything else I've played on PS4 to date.

Ask yourself about the VALUE. The value here will be greater than most, if not all games we've seen released to date on PS4.

it is probably going to end up like watch dogs with all the hype, and then being the best/highest selling game since the halo series.

game is out in about month and will be going gold in about a week. the game is pretty much done. Question is how old is the beta content.

Watchdogs was a mediocre mess. We've played this and we know it's a lot better than Watchdogs.

Destiny: List of All the 22 Missions, 6 Strikes, 4 Areas, 11 Crucible Maps and More Discovered So Far
There's actually more than that which is unlisted at DestinyDB because they don't have proper names. Whether they're in the actual game at release or not is yet to be known. This is the current list with everything name or not:

Clash: 13
Salvage: 13
Social: 5
Rumble: 15
Explore: 5
Story: 32
Skirmish: 16
Raid: 2
Control: 17
Strike: 23
Story Challenge: 1
Iron Banner: 1
The Crucible: 4
Combined Arms: 1

It could be more (or less) than what is actually posted above. We'll see come release unless Bungie decides to makes it clear before then.

EDIT: Also, niiiiiiice:

There is also a bigger ball that you can bounce around that hangs in the air for a while.

Those gauntlets look nice. Those are for any type of character right?

I think i would like hunter the best if he had a better L1+R1 move. I like his cape, and his knife throw. I just dont like the guns, especially if you do it and get shot dead right away they are lost. I think the titan and warlock have a better special move, even if its more limited in its range.

Don't think so, but who knows. First one is worn by a Warlock, second one by a Titan. It's also exotic, which means if you equip it you can't equip an exotic item in any other armor slot (helm/chest/feet). Meaning legendary or worse in the other slots while you're wearing an exotic in that slot. Same with weapons, only one of the three can be exotic quality.

Well, it makes sense for them to not delay. To shut it down at midnight might require them to have staff working Sunday night and that sucks all around for those people considering their testing had finished.

I am totally set spied with this midsummer treat. Looking forward to September 9th. :D

Well so far Destiny pre-order numbers are doing way better than Titanfall, but than again Titanfall release was only limited to the Microsoft systems. But I am pretty sure Destiny would do better because there is actually a single player campaign. I think not having a real single player campaign really hurt Titanfall in the long run.

Well, PS4, Xbone, PS3, 360, PC and Herculean hype. I think it's set for commercial success. Most people I talked to enjoyed the beta too so I think they get nice reviews. Anything above 85% should be enough to ease doubts.

Also, PS4 owners don't have a lot of games right now to compete with Destiny. Diablo 3, Last of Us, Minecraft and Madden are the games which come to mind in the next month. None of those will feed their shooter fix. This one being out two months before COD is well played by Activision. No need creating competion between their stables.

absolutely wrong on the beta. titanfall beta was more successful on the PC than the xbox platforms. And the beta was only on Xbox One - 360 port took months to come out after GA. I was on the titanfall pc beta and it convinced me to buy the game but then they changed a lot of the weapons which kinda made it a bit worse than the beta. Also the launch had some major issues with xbox live.

Anyway, after getting access to the beta, I'm not sure I'd pay full retail for Destiny. The tower has to be developed more. I played on the PS4 and I only had one match that anyone used microphones. otherwise anywhere else in the game, not a single group used their mic's to coordinate. I bet the experience is better on xbox one just for communicating.

Bungie restricted communication to just your fireteam only.

"We want to make sure your level of social engagement in Destiny is something that you have complete and total control over. We want you to make very deliberate decisions about the people you're going to have on your team, and the voices that you welcome into your audio mix.

"We've made a lot of games over the years that have brought a lot of gamers together in social and violent [encounters]. We found that people who know each other and trust each other tend to make the best contributions to the party. I can certainly remember playing Bungie games online and other people would use their access of being able to talk to me as an opportunity to incite grief or bully me, [so that's why we did that]," Dague said.

While I agree with Bungie's decision on the social aspect of the game, I find that in general using a mic to voice chat takes me out of the game(immersive wise) and I kind of wish game developers would take the next step by making either an voice overlay or some alien language with subtitles.

I guess I'm a little bit hardcore like that.  :p

I remember when I got my 360 back in the year it launched. A Mic came with it and EVERYBODY was talking. At first it was magical and then the all the little kids became self aware of the anominity. Suddenly it was torture.

I prefer this communication silence to that.

Anyone remember SOCOM 2? The game came with a headset and had MP. wasn't that a treat back in the day for console (PS2).

i agree, i rather talk to people on my own fire team. but i wish there was someone way to communicate in the social towers, like in diablo 2 with the overhead text

From Bungie community manager:
Oh, hello.

Destiny's pretty big. It's the biggest game we've ever made, by far, and we're sort of known for making games you can play for months, years, and even decades if you're a little bit...dedicated.

With Destiny, we're looking to exceed what we've done before, not just in terms of scale - the Moon is our smallest destination - but in terms of scope and breadth of activities. That's true for day one, as you expect, but it also means we want Destiny to have super long legs.

If we're fortunate enough to have you playing months after launch, you still find lots of compelling stuff to do. That will manifest itself in a myriad of ways, from straight up content to cool activities we've yet to show off.

We think we did a decent job supporting Halo, post launch, but we were only ever able to cater to the competitive set. That left a lot of players out in the cold. That made a lot of the team grumpy. We wanted to do better. So, Destiny is philosophically built support every type of player, and all modes with ongoing activities and events. We look at it quite a bit like television programming, as opposed to a singular film, as we had in the past. We think it's gonna be pretty great, but we wanted to test out a bunch of our new stuff with Beta, to make sure we could flip knobs and levers live, reacting and responding with lots (and, ho boy, did we see LOTS) of players online and playing.

Beta was water wings. Level 8 is nothing. You barely scratched the surface, and it seems like some folks had fun with what was there.

If you did, good news. More soon.

plants vs zombis is out aug that game is amazing i would suggest any shooting fan to buy that game on ps3/ps4

It looks interesting, and I'll probably pick it up when it's cheaper. People I know who have played it say they like it. I just don't know many people who have played it.

DESTINY: The Endgame is only the beginning

Interview with Bungie that goes into some details about the Raids having no matchmaking and more bullet-sponge bosses.

"Raids are “extremely crafted,” six-player, friends-only gauntlet runs that might best be described as gut-checks. Yes, they will be difficult, and they will absolutely require communication and cooperation. That’s why Bungie isn’t supporting matchmaking for them; the developers don’t want them to be played by disparate groups of strangers. But Smith is quick to point out that they’re not like Strikes – the instanced dungeon-like runs that might take a mere 20-60 minutes – but more like MMO raids in that you’re going to want to buckle up and get comfortable for a couple hours."

I wonder if this game will be a success or not? If it flops, it will bankrupt Bungie right?
I will be shocked if it is not a hit. I think Bungie is safe either way as Activision is footing the bill. Worse case scenario they can always go back to making more Halo games.

i doubt it will be a flop. worst case scenario it will break even. like my other post stated, this game will probably end up being like watch dog in sales for ubi$oft. in other words, best selling since call of duty :________?
