I just tried it. I don't think xinput is implemented yet. Redownloaded from scratch so that ginput isn't installed and can't map the triggers and the right stick still doesn't work. Can't be long before the new version is up though since they seem to have removed the buy option for the game from the steam store.
Hmm, odd. I wonder what's up with that screenshot then. If I wasn't in the middle of watching TV I would dig into this and try to find out more. Homeland cannot wait!

This guy in the steam forums noticed some stuff going on in the db.

To show the graphics? That's not even a different hud. The only difference that the mobile hud had was the position of the mini map. PC has it on the bottom left, Mobile version has it on the top left. That and having all the controls to the game plastered all over the screen because of touch controls.

The hud in that pic is higher resolution. The original game had a low res hud.

WTF. Forget it man.
I'm sorry I'm just trying to say it hasn't been updated yet. My copy still has the same low res hud, no xinput support and you still can't increase the resolution to 1920x1080 like you could in a previous patch.

I'm not arguing that it's been updated, I was saying the HUD in that screenshot looks sharper than what I've seen in the game on PC. I'm only talking about the screenshot.

But it doesn't matter, I just re-read the post where I got that screen from, the person was representing that the PC version was "fixed and looks like this now" but turns out it's actually just a mod.

Wow, finally checked my Extra Life page and I made my goal :D

Had absolutely not expectation I would be able to raise 1/5 of the $500 dollars I did, much of which was from awesome people in this thread who rather shocked me with how generous they were. You guys are awesome, and thanks so much to everyone that hung out with me during the event; I'd have fallen asleep pretty fast without people to talk to, but ended up having an awesome time.

Now I should probably go back to sleep.
Congrats! I wanted to catch some but I was in South Cackalacka all day for a Spartan Beast.

Anyone eyeballing/hoping for something for the Halloween sale later this week?
I would consider fakeybro'ing Frozen State at 33% off or Wasteland 2 at 40%.

The prices always get changed/sales start at 10AM PDT/1PM EST.
I think he is talking about the OP, which squirrel has been a bit busy the past couple days and did not update.

I downloaded San Andreas last night and didn't have camera control in game.  I was able to select my native resolution 16:10 which I'm not sure if it is new or not.  I'll have to dig into it again tonight to see if it got fixed.

Yeah with so few weeklong deals there should be a bigger sale coming soon!  I'm itching for it.

Because Facebook refuses to let me create more than one account. They seem to be locked onto my IP address or something. I only have one account - a personal one that I use to keep track of some friends and former co-workers. And I've got it locked down so I don't get spammed or found by people from my past that I do not want to deal with again.

You can try create a fake account with a proxy/VPN. Since it will be a trash account you should not be worried. Hope it works for you.

I did one like that.

I have like 19 Facebook accounts, and most of them were made earlier this year. plz l2interweb

Ok Steam threadulars, time to prove yourselves. I'm going to retry Dark Souls tonight. This is a two-part examination so get your pencils ready:

1) which mods do I need to make it shiny? Is it just DSFix? Keep it simplish please.

2) I've tried DS a couple of times before and I suck. Are there any classes I should avoid? Which stats should I aim for? What is the point of humanity/kindling?

I know a lot of DS is trial and error and error and error but I've quit each time because I've felt that I was making some pretty horrendous mistakes.

:whee:

Uriel rejected me from his chasm.  And told me I had to wait five minutes before making another attempt on his chasm.  Also, I think I need to buy him dinner first.

Seriously though, what's with this "chance to win" nonsense?  I liked your stupid page with my fake account now gimme my key.

1) DSFix is all you really need.

2) Pyromancer is a fun starting class; fairly well rounded from beginning to end game. I'd avoid Thief, Hunter and Deprived until you're familiar with the game mechanics and enemy patterns. Stats you build up will depend on your build. A magic build will build up intelligence with some attunement to carry extra spells. Others may build up dexterity. Unless you are focusing on a strength build, you really only need to build it up to be able to use the weapons you want. Kindling a bonfire will increase your Estus flasks, requires offering Humanity and can only be done in human form. Also, you can only summon and invade (or be invaded) while in human form.

Edit: One thing to keep in mind is that dying and losing souls isn't a big thing. Souls can be farmed easily if needed (especially once you unlock the forest passage). The only thing to really avoid is being cursed and even then, at most it's mainly super (super super super) annoying, especially if you get cursed multiple times in a row. Concentrate on finding a weapon you like/find effective and start improving the weapon. Personally, I really love the range of Halberds.

In case you're wondering, it's right about here that you start losing people who've never played one of these games before.

This is true. There's a lot of nuance in DS. However, I think if players focus on the basics of understanding the combat, enemy patterns, finding a fun/effective weapon, etc., you'll never really need to understand those nuances (though you probably will after playing long enough). I think I kindled maybe two bonfires and the only other time I used humanity was to summon some NPC help for a couple boss battles. What I like about DS is you can make it as simple or as complicated as you like.

I haven't played the PC version myself so I can't say too much about the mods, although I do know that unlocking the framerate really fucks with the collision detection so you will probably want to stick to changing the resolution only.

"Classes" don't matter as they only affect starting stats and equipment, none of which is all that important. Still, I'll vouch for the pyromancer as a beginner class - the fireball spell is decently useful and you can learn more if you want to, and their low starting level means you have slightly more wiggle room with your level-ups.

As a big Souls fan who also sucks at the game mechanically (I've gotten better, but yeah...) my advice for enjoying the game is to familiarize yourself with how the stats work, and what all the symbols on the inventory and status screens actually mean. What stats you should aim for largely depends on your build and especially what type of weapons / spells you plan to use. Depending on the equipment, it can be best to have high strength, dex, int, or faith, or some mix thereof. Here's a decent little guide. Endurance is also important so you can equip heavier gear and still roll effectively.

That said, Dark Souls *is* an action game, so even if you utterly fail at spec-ing it's still possible to brute force one's way through.

As for humanity, it's pretty simple, really. You can use it to become human, which lets you summon allies or invade other players. If you kindle a bonfire, that bonfire will then recharge your Estus Flask (healing item) to 10 uses instead of the usual 5. It has a couple of other obscure uses/effects but that's all you really need to know. Read more here.

Other advice for your first real playthrough:
- Find a shield that absorbs 100% of damage ASAP! (Or at least 85%+)
- Get a bow and some arrows, even if you aren't specializing in Dex, they are really useful for drawing aggro or killing weak enemies at a distance.
- As mentioned above - make sure your equip load is low enough that you can roll effectively.
- Avoid fighting multiple enemies at once at all costs.
- Play with a gamepad. A 360 controller is acceptable but feels way off in my opinion compared to a Dualshock 3.
- Don't be afraid to use cheap tactics or do whatever it takes to survive. The game sure isn't above such things.

Oh, and the game should be converting to Steamworks in November so you might want to wait for that.

In case you're wondering, it's right about here that you start losing people who've never played one of these games before.
Ha, it is pretty byzantine isn't it. Well:

For most of the game you are half-undead, but you can become human again by offering an item called "humanity" to a bonfire. Bonfires are basically checkpoints where you can rest to refill your Estus Flask, which is a reusable healing item. Usually the bonfire gives you 5 uses of the Estus Flask.

Once you're human, you can summon other players (for jolly cooperation) usually to kill some pain-in-the-ass boss.
You can also invade other players' worlds and try to kill them, or be invaded yourself by some cheap lag-stabbing ganker.
Also while human, you can "kindle" a bonfire if you have additional humanity, which increases the amount of Estus that bonfire gives from 5 to 10.

I guess it still sounds pretty crazy, but that's the Simple English Wikipedia explanation.

You can actually get up to 20 Flasks per bonfire, but it's easier to leave all of 'em at the basic level and only upgrade the ones that are in extremely lengthy areas.

...

Who here has one of those exophase sigs? That thing has been making my anti malware software go off all the time. I don't know why but someone should check the site in case it's been taken over by spambots or something.
