It's a crossguard, they've been a fixture in heavy straight swords for over a 1000 years designed to protect the wielder's hand from strikes.That lightsaber looked duuuuuuumb.
One thing I've never understood about lightsabers. So you press a button and the blade extends, right? People who use the dark side of the force are dicks, right? Why don't they just use the force to turn off their opponent's blade right as they are attempting to block their kill blow.
