I like how there's a financial forum on CAG now but we're all more comfortable discussing taxes in here.

What is your other character class? I had trouble with two characters, added the healer, and then beat her immediately. I think I was level 7 or so.

You might want to farm nameless gems in order to get better equipment and level up a bit more. Also do you have the Staff of Healing? Just have the healer use that every turn since it's free healing--no MP cost and it never runs out.
Other character is a Paladin. I probably should level up just a little more and then try her again.

Taxes/Financing stuff is just way too complicated. Money comes in, money goes out. I seem to have enough.

Shouldn't this be a bed of preowned games. Vig doesn't have real money.

Seriously, do none of you guys just splurge on something sometimes? And I am not talking about video game or other nerd related collectables either. None of you just go blow some money on a nice $500 dinner or go to the casino or go on a nice vacation and not worry about money for a few days?
We're pretty liberal with our spending for a one income family I think (but I was waaay more spendy when I was single). We're just responsible about it I guess. We go out to eat with everyone 2-3 times a week. If we want to buy something we usually just go buy it without much thought unless it's a pretty hefty price tag.

On the flip side we also go to thrift stores a lot and our Christmas tree came from someone else's garbage this year.

All that said, I think the only time I've approached a $500 dinner was at the four seasons in Florence like a total baller. That's an ass ton of money for a meal.

It should have been that gift card gif.

That was my setup as well. I just had the paladin in front casting that defense skill, my gazer hitting from the back with a bow, and the healer healing every turn, IIRC. Either that or the gazer was up front with the paladin--can't recall at what point I moved gazer back.

We know who the morons are in this thread. Out there, we would have to learn an entire new set. Based on the few times I ever read anything else on CAG, I have a feeling I would lose even more respect for my fellow man trying to navigate the stupid in that forum.

I'll spend money on vacations, like when I bought my house in the mountains, but not at fancy restaurants. A chicken breast is going to taste the same to me if I'm spending $15 on it at Outback or $75 for it at some "upscale" place.

I'm trying to be less cheap, but it doesn't come easy.

I love that this post was timed to have Scrooge McDuck in the signature.

I love football talk! Football season is never over!

The # 1 HS recruit (according to ESPN anyway) in the nation went to Armwood high which is just 5 minutes or so from where I work. Too bad he chose Auburn. Yuck.

Investing outside of 401k/Roth stuff is horrifying to me. There's a bunch of people I work with who are in deep with investments (stocks and whatnot) and man either they suck at it or it's tough to get right.

Here's my conspiracy theory - the stock market is a very well oiled machine that needs idiots as fuel. Everyone says that you should never pull your money when things go south and ride it out, but I think the people that actually make money there know right when to get out (probably the second things get bad) and let the peons absorb the impact. Obviously I have no idea what I'm talking about, which is precisely why I'll take my money to the casino before taking it to etrade.

I go on at least one if not 2 different week long vacations every year. All the beer I drink is not cheap either. Outside of that and the occasional video game expense, I barely buy anything.

When I graduated college I bought a car from my parents that I hated. I knew there was 0% interest and it would get me back and forth to work. I drove that POS for 12 years. I only decided to finally get a new car because I couldn't take a 3rd year of Atlanta summers with no AC.

The idea of not having to get up and go to work anymore drives me a lot more than having some expensive item that I might think I want but realize I do not really need.

So.... PSNOT Fest in Gatlinburg this summer?

The first problem is mentioning chicken as if thats what you would eat at some upscale place.

I never would have thought this way until I ate at some fancy places, but if I were rich I would be fine dining every damn night. The right place can make even mundane food items a real treat.

This place was the first real fancy place I ever at at. We spent about $350 after tax and tip for just my wife and myself. It would probably be about $500 with prices now. And I dont care about the dumb presentation of the food. The taste of everything is unreal.

Until the day I can afford to eat there all the time I will be happy with the Bell and other fast food.

First Todd McShay mock draft on ESPN.com has the Buccos taking Winston. Enjoy!

Traditional/Roth/401k is tough.  I mean, I have no fucking idea where I'll be when I'm 65, but trying to estimate that is a pretty big deal as to which outlet you should invest in.  I've always done Roth out of a habit I got into when I lived at home, since I was talking the standard deduction no matter what.  Now that I own my own house and have interest to deduct (albeit not a huge amount, about $2700 this year) I could top it with a Traditional IRA investment. (I'm assuming it is 100% deductible?  So if I put in $5500 for 2015 I could write off $5500?  Anyone know?)

The most important thing is that you're saving at all.  There are ways to maximize savings by using the right investment avenues, but that is completely negligible compared to what you're missing out on if your not saving and investing in one of those three tools or another similar one.

Yeah, that's going to happen with a bunch of people who are terrified that their first names will be found out.
Sounds more like incentive vs deterrent.

Come to pitfall's hideaway in gatlinburg and learn peoples names!

Pretty sure most of the topic knows my first name. Quite a few probably know the last name, too. Granted I don't post any of that in the topic itself simply because anybody could be reading it (not just the regulars,) but other than that I don't care. Are people more paranoid than that about it?

I mean..pitfall makes sense, I guess. Not sure if anybody else has a reason to worry. If you do, why?

I exaggerate my paranoia about personal stuff being exposed, but in reality I don't care all that much. I'd just rather discuss other things.

I agree, I have no interest in trying to play the stock market or things like that. I find that it gives me anxiety and I worry about losing money. The gains I may get from it are not worth said anxiety. I invest in the 2050 retirement mutual funds in a couple different places but that's about it. Growth has been kinda shitty this past year in all of them but they are growing and I am comfortable with the percentage of the income I am saving and beyond that I don't worry too much about it.

I missed this post earlier in the flurry of shit.

Your post is pretty accurate. The stock market does need idiots as fuel. You know who they are? Those coworkers you are talking about.

Is it possible to make money in the stock market by flirting with stocks in an etrade account on your own? Sure. Is it likely? Hell no. I have a friend who has done really well, but he also spent a ton on services from other companies with various types of investing strategy portfolios and daily newsletters. He understands and has done options trading. Those people are few and far between.

The biggest reason he is successful with it is because he can separate himself from it. If you worry about fluctuations like Tyler mentioned, do not even bother. However, you should absolutely bother with doing IRAs and 401ks if you have the funds to do so. Many people are paid very well to manage those and their pay is based on performance.

Will you sill lose large chunks at time? Yes. That is where your planning has to come into play more. A balanced portfolio of funds that cover everything from large cap to small cap to emerging markets to bonds to precious metals is needed to really weather any storm. Is that easier said than done? Absolutely! When you get there though when one thing goes down something else goes up. It helps even out the wild swings that scare off many other people.

most i've ever spent on dinner was $140, and that was on our honeymoon. my wife would feel the same as me. she'd rather i take her somewhere like olive garden/red lobster/longhorn, and use the extra money to buy whatever with. though if i made 6 digits a year like some of you assholes, i'd probably splurge once in a while.

I have always thought playing the stockmarket was like legalized gambling.
