It's actually not bad, but you'll need a 500+gb external hard drive on the side. 5-6 hours for it to backup 400+ gb. I'll be doing the restore when I get home later. Having that option is a great addition. I'd hate to have to redownload 200+gb of games/patches.

this has become a new problem for me thanks to the library. having a game for a week means I generally won't get to finish it and clean it up. but if I delete the game I have to reinstall it next time I get it, thus wasting valuable time!

I do look forward to the inevitable ffxv on two discs with a 150GB install or whatever such nonsense happens.

it's not too unusual to be unable to finish a game in a month if you only have an hour or so to play a day (and you don't want to spend every day playing that one game). definitely most games don't have 25-30 hour playtimes to finish the main story but some sure do.

I can't sit and play games for hours and hours on end so it takes me a long time to finish games. But also I play games for a while and then I switch to something else. Like I enjoyed what I played of Shadow of Mordor, but then I wanted to play something else so i set it aside. I'll get back to it eventually.

 
Sitting in Jury assembly, my first jury summons. Good news is they announced there are only one day trials today... Need to be here a couple of hours to get out of work fully, otherwise my boss wanted me to come in.

I've no problems on PS4, but my PS3 is the 120gb one. That sucker is cramped with the stupid double-space requirement for installing games. Upgrading at this point seems silly as well. Just need to push through all the gameshares I've downloaded on the thing, I think, but between more shiny PS3 games and PS4/Vita/PC gaming it's slow.

I swapped my launch PS4 out a few months ago. Game Stop had a decent trade in promo for a week. A week or so later they had a decent deal for a new PS4 Last of Us bundle and threw in a years worth of PS+. I still have to tweak a few settings but it was pretty easy to swap. All my game saves are on PS+. I actually remember to unregistered the console before trading it (unlike when I dumped my original PS3). Then I did a wipe so it would format the drive. That took several hours. Setup the new one logged in and went to the store on my laptop and queued up all the games I wanted to redownload and just let it run. It is a bit of a hassle but not that bad really. I have 25/25 Internet so it took a while but not too bad.

One thing I think MS got right I think is being able to attach an external HD which seems to be faster then the Internal. You don't have do anything other then hook it up and maybe format it. Then you can just start installing games to it. At first I wasn't keen on the ideal of an external drive but if it is truly faster and painless to setup and use I probably consider it.

With my limited time to game I've become the opposite, more focused on finishing the game at hand. I used to jump all over but then you don't finish anything. I've been buying a lot less games and although I got a Wii U it was also for my kids and I'll probably only play a few games on it. I'm kind of focused in on the PS3\PS4\Vita ecosystem at this point. I'm sure there are some X1 games I wouldn't mind playing but I don't think that's in the cards for me this gen. 

Even more recently I'm starting to see the value of taking my time with the games I really enjoy and try not to worry about what I might be missing out on. The truth is at this point no one can play everything. I tended to shy away from lengthy games but I played through Assassin's 4 and Shadow of Mordor and still want to go back to the DLC on both of those games. 

I might not platinum anything but at least I feel like I'm finishing games and clearing out the backlog. I'm not sure if it's a new leaf for me but I want to take a stab at the Infamous Second Son platinum. Maybe more will follow, but I'm thinking it will be a case by case basis. 

I've been very picky on the PS4, but at least the Vita allows me to branch out with a bunch of different stuff since I play it every day.

It wasn't too bad when I did it for the PS3 a few years ago. If you don't have an available external hard drive to back up to you can buy a 2.5" Hard drive enclosure (the PS3 and PS4 should use the same size HDD). I got this one.

Put the new drive you purchased in the enclosure and format it for use as a normal external hard drive. Back up your PS3/4 to the drive. Copy the back-up to a computer, then swap drives, move the old PS4 HDD into the enclosure, and the new HDD into the PS4. Format the old PS4 drive as a normal external drive and load the back-up on it. Format the new HDD in the PS4 with a USB drive, then reinstall the back-up to the PS4.

Now for the price of $9 you've converted your 500 GB PS4 drive into an external HDD.

I play a ton, but don't always finish every game nowadays. Unless I really love it I'm likely to even drop it to go back to things like Helldivers when new content comes out. Also, some of us have significant others who we actually enjoy spending time with.

Could upgrade your PS4 drive and then move the old PS4 drive into your PS3 once you're done with the back-up process. It would just involve repeating the above steps with the hard drive enclosure a second time.

So take your new, old PS4 500 GB external drive, backup the PS3 data to it. Put the data on a computer and swap drives in the enclosure. Format the 120 GB PS3 drive as a normal external hard drive. Load the back-up on it. Format the old PS4 drive in your PS3 with a USB drive. Then reload the back-up to the PS3, and now you have a 120 GB external drive.

We were talking about not finishing games, not simply playing them. Regarding simply playing and collecting I'm certain I have everyone in the thread beat.

You inference was that those of us who complete games do not have significant others we want to spend time with. That is not the case for all of us at least. Some of us just understand time management.

USB 2.0 is pretty slow. Maybe opt for a 3.0 enclosure with the PS4 at least since it has USB 3.0 ports.

Yep, and when you dont finish all those games do you leave them on your HD because you think you might want to go back to them 10 years from now? And when you hit your HD limit do you complain about having to move shit around?

Also, I said "finished" for a reason. We dont always have to complete the story or play every level of a game to be finished with it. I would argue that many of us are finished with most of our games after about a month. Sure some games break that "rule" but on the whole I dont see many people playing a ton of games months after starting them. So I dont see the need to have a big HD if you manage things as you go.

And I just like discussing things, I am not telling any of you your wrong or should change so dont get your panties twisted. I am not calling your love ones ugly.

I'm not out of room on my PS4 but hopefully Sony just allows external USB drives at some point. I did the swap on my PS3 to a 750GB drive which worked out nicely since I never had to do much cleanup. I have P.T. on my drive which I haven't gotten to yet which I want to try out...although that might come over on an external drive backup. I'll probably just delete as I go, unless it starts to become a PITA then I'll do the swap. I want a 2TB one of these for about $100. LINK. LOL.

I've already upgraded my HD to 2TB, but I don't really need to leave anything on my HD. I buy solely physical when available so I just reinstall when necessary if I ever hit the limit which hasn't happened since upgrading. I'm just the collector sort who wants to have a game room with full shelves. I rarely trade in or sell as I only buy what I intend to keep for the most part. I still have my SNES, N64, PS1, Gamecube and PS2 all hooked up to my CRT and boot them up regularly. Genesis and WIi are the only ones I don't have out with 360, PS3, WiiU and PS4 on the flatscreen, though admittedly I haven't turned on the 360 or PS3 in quite a while. Everytime I get together with my buddies we have some beers and end up playing past gen games or Cards Against Humanity. Current gen stuff is saved for our solo time or online play.

I misinterpreted your definition of finished then. By that logic I'd say I'm never really finished with a game. I enjoy going back in time.

I have some sturdy panties. I'm opinionated when chatting, but don't give a shit in the grand scheme of things.

Look, the game is definitely a B-movie when it comes to video games, but it knows it and does it well.  The value of it isn't in it's production, but in it's story and charm... if you're playing it for the gameplay then just give up.  I don't blame anyone for not liking Deadly Premonition, but you have to understand what you're getting into when you decide to play it.  If you were going into it for the graphics and gameplay then you shouldn't have ever started it.

Of course, if you had been paying attention to my posts back when I was playing it then you would have already known all of this you fucker!!!

When you delete 0% games does it bump your percentage? I had quite a few 0% games, some I never even played just booted up.

I knew all about the game and its shortcomings since it was released on xbox. I was always tempted to buy it when it was cheap (cause I do like some b movies type stuff) but held off because I knew I might hate it. When we got it for plus I knew I wold try it one day. That day came and I am glad I didnt pay any money for it. The story and b movie aesthetic just isnt grabbing me at all.

Its SO SLOW. And I know all about the mission I need to complete to get the item to let me fast travel, but I havent seen an opportunity to do that yet so I had to spend what felt like an hour just to drive this slow shitty car from the PD to the Park. It was horrrrrible. I wanted to slit my throat then and there.

I really want to try to complete it just so I can say I gave it a fair shot, I just dont know how I will be able to do that. I am still not even done with the first chapter!

I enjoy spending time with my wife. Sometimes my definition of 'spending time' together is different from my wife's definition. Who am I kidding, our definitions are always different. Velo has it figured out. He 'spends time' with his wife on a much more regular basis than I do, and he plays the crap out of video games. He has the best time-management skills.

Changing topics, I had Jimmy John's for lunch today. I got the #5 (because no mayo; #rehash) minus onions, add hot peppers. Also got the Jalapeño chips. While I was getting my drink, I thought of a question. When y'all get drinks at restaurants do you use a straw? Do you use a straw at all? I don't because I don't suck on things.
 
NYSE has been down for over an hour now. Nasdaq is up, NYSE says its just a glitch and homeland security says it isnt a hack, but this isnt good.
