Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

I posted when this new thread was created about how I was debating selling my 360 and putting the money toward an X1. But the reason I don't have one now is because I have a PS4. Have barely touched my 360 since the end of August except to keep it clean.

Soo..that's why I haven't gotten an X1. :)

Actually, if I was a 360 hold out, I would wait for Scorpio. Why spend $200+ now when something better is coming later in the year?
Because Scorpio will be $500+? We don't know the price of Scorpio and how much it will improve upon games. We do know it will be capable of VR for X1 and that's about it. I'm getting a Scorpio (not at launch just encase there are bugs/hardware issues) since the X1 is my main system, but not expecting miracles from it after watching what the PS4 Pro did.

I agree with your points, but the uncertainty of the price would (for me anyways) encourage me to wait and see. If it is $500 and the added features are not worthwhile, then I'd get an XB1 at the next Black Friday and at possibly an even lower price than what we've been seeing. If Scorpio is priced lower or does interest me, then get that. That would be my decision tree anyways.

In partial answer to your original question, if I was a solo gamer, I probably would've stuck with 360 and not gotten an XB1. I only upgraded to play games that my friends wanted to play. With the free Games with Gold, there are so many 360 games to play, I totally would not have been bored and would've just waited for Scorpio.

I'm actually curious if we have that many people in the thread who only own a 360. The X1 has been close to $200 at times and more and more games are coming to BC.

Show yourselves fools, and join the X1 master race.

Or put out reasons why your not getting a X1/and at what price point.
I have both. 360 in the bedroom and xb1 downstairs

The Culling hits XB1 Game Preview "first half of 2017". Supposedly sucks - according to Steam Reviews anyway...

Played Gears 4 last night, Escalation. Epic as fuck. We were down 5-1, and it seemed like our team was severely outclassed. We came back and won 6 out of the next 7 rounds to take the match. Damn it was so intense! Might be the best multiplayer match I've ever been a part of, in any game. Wish I'd have recorded the whole thing. =-(
One of the very first Escalation games I played, my team started out down 6-0. We rallied to win 7 straight. Hell of a game.

You do know how electronics work right?

Just beat Superhot. It was pretty cool. Very short, but not really a game you'd want to be super long.
Give the bonus levels a try, katana only and the type where you can't reload guns are a blast.

...and more and more games are coming to BC.

Show yourselves fools, and join the X1 master race.
BC is dead.

I still have a 360 that I only boot up to buy games with xbl credit, which isn't really worth keeping it around for but I'd be lucky to get $30 of GS credit for the thing. If I had a second tv I'd probably use it for Netflix I guess.

This guy gets it. I don't, but there ya go.

I'm basically in that camp. I'm just waiting to see specs and more info on the Scorpio, along with the price, to decide if I need it or if I can just grab a S and live.

Also, when the Scorpio launches, the Slim will have price cuts (permanent or temporary) plus more bundles.

That's totally me.

I don't like the Xbox One's digital licensing compared to the 360's. That's a biggie for me.

And to be perfectly blunt about it I guess, I don't see enough of an advance in tech/quality from the 360 to warrant a new console. I don't buy a console every single generation, never have and never will. That's not to say I'd refuse a free XBox One or something if I won one, because I've been collecting all the XBox One GWG games just in case (you never know).

And to also be blunt: the 360's games library is still *really*, really good. Which is why you guys still get excited about the BC games. I'm VERY happy playing my 360's games library.

I'm a very CAG. I have a large family that gets everything first -- there's basically never any money left over for gaming. I can't spent $200 or $150 even for a Xbox One, that's just never in the cards. I got my 360 years ago at a $99 deal at WalMart and I also used a gift card on it as well to cut the price down more, and even then it was a unique thing that I could even afford that. I have a backlog on it thanks to GWG. It's crazy to me that I barely ever buy anything, but still have the digital library I do. I've said before, I'd bet few have benefited from GWG more than me. I've only ever had 2 GWG titles I already owned, and I bet I own around 15 disc titles, and have bought maybe 3 digital titles with actual money (and not credit earned from rewards), and another 12-ish titles bought digitally with only earned credit.

But yeah: I'm not getting an X1, it looks like. I just don't see a reason or need to. *shrug*

While 90% of my gaming is done on the XBox One lately, this is literally the only reason I turn my 360 on! I wish they could implement it where I could buy 360 games with credit but I guess that will never happen (too much work).

Interesting. I would think the Slim price would hold pretty steady so that the Scorpion doesn't look like a complete waste but then you have to consider the PS4 in the US is still winning by at least 2+ million (last I heard) and they probably want to keep it close. Damned if you do, damned if you don't cut the price.

Digital licensing? I game share all the time and we able to both play the same game at the same time. That's the first I've heard of issues with the X1, but maybe I am not understanding it right.

But your still spending X $ a year for XBox Live which can add up to a bit. Though I understand, if you don't have the money... why bother?

Wife and I played the first two chapters of Power Rangers and had a blast. The Megazord sections are more fun than I expected, even if it's just because I was yelling "X! A! B! X!". You have to press the buttons together, but it's forgiving as long as you get the order right.

Green Ranger isn't available from the beginning, but White is (if you have the DLC). I also suspect the DLC will be available later, as it shows a release date in March. That's just judging by a screenshot of the item page someone posted earlier.

Clannad, a Japan-only visual novel recently went BC. I don't know if it made it region free, though it has no language options or reason to play without understanding the story so it doesn't really matter.

I know most of the Japanese stuff people would actually care about, like the CAVE shoot-em-ups, were already region free.
Can't speak for Clannad (although I am curious as well). However, you can follow a guide for several of the visual novels that will give you the 1k with little effort.

As for the Cave shmups, I feel I should clarify a bit:

Akai Katana - US version works with Europe. JP region locked.

Deathsmiles - Each region got a version of the game, but all are region locked.

Deathsmiles II X - Region locked to JP. Came to US via Games on Demand. (Unsure if Europe ever got it via GoD eventually or not).

DoDonPachi Resurrection - JP region locked. Europe works with US.

DoDonPachi Saidaiojou - Region Free

Espgaluda II: Black Label - Region Free

Guwange - Region Free? Was available through XBLA.

Muchi Muchi Pork & Pink Sweets - Region Free

Mushihime-sama Futari ver 1.5 - Region Free

Two other Cave shmups were released as well, but as far as I'm aware, they are region locked. Those whose be DDP Resurrection: Black Label and Mushihime-sama HD.

While I can't speak for Europe (not sure how different their digital marketplaces are), there are some shmups from other developers that were originally region locked but made available to the US via Games on Demand. Caladrius, Shooting Love 200x, and Under Defeat HD. On the subject of region free titles, the two offered by Qute are as well in Eschatos and Ginga Force.

There's nothing wrong with people just having a 360. I have an Xbox One and a 360, and I play the 360 more. Like others have said, I have a huge backlog on the 360, and just because a more recent generation of games is available to play doesn't mean that the 360 era games are outdated or terrible. Also, 360 games are extremely cheap these days. Between Xbox Live digital sales, Best Buy and Target clearances, Walmart Black Fridays, and GameStop buy 2, get 1 free preowned promotions, I've racked up somewhere around 400 games since the 360 came out. While many of them are backlogged, there are dozens that I go back to again and again. So, I don't fault anyone who only has a 360. If I could go back and keep myself from buying an Xbox One, I probably might because I honestly have yet to see a single title that I needed to own to justify my investment. The biggest titles in my Xbox One collection are Sunset Overdrive, Mad Max, Dead Rising 3, Fallout 4 and Far Cry 4, and the rest are mainly retro games or indies. So, I could have waited before jumping in. And I'm not upgrading to a Slim or a Scorpio either because I'm good with my launch year model. But what do I know? I still play my Dreamcast every now and then.

I have some friends with X1's. They've had more problems with their digital libraries and doing what they want with them on the X1's than their 360's, and it's scared me off. It all just seems much simpler management on the 360. Didn't used to be much of a big deal, but I've gone all digital basically (which I never would have predicted 3 years ago, my God a digital library is amazing, no discs to change or keep track of).

I've considered dropping Gold, but GWG makes it more than worth it for me for now, even though I have scrape up the $35-ish for it every year. Soon-ish, I bet GWG 360 titles will stop and I'll finally drop Gold altogether. Only game I play online anymore is Happy Wars anyways. I'm not an online multiplayer guy much nowadays.

You guys need to start selling drugs or something. There's a shitload of game on the X1 that make it worth owning

This made me chuckle. But seriously, I get other people's situations. However, I shake my head in disbelief when I hear people say they haven't seen the "next Gen" leap in graphics. I have a regular ol 1080i tv and some of the games are breathtaking. From Battlefield 1 to Forza to Firewatch to Gears 4 and back to Mortal Kombat, some truly beautiful games.

But eh, to each their own. I get the money thing. I was in a toxic relationship where the ex and her kid got everything new and I had to scrounge on here for deals and scrap by using Bing points. Every situation is unique. I've still driven the same car the past 12+ years, so stick with your 360 systems folks :)

I had an epiphany today.  I've been excited and saving up trade credit to get the Scorpio later this year.  Then it dawned on me... I don't have a 4k tv, nor do I see the need for one.  Unless they start making gimped games for the X1 like they do for the 360/ps3 now, there is no reason for me personally to get a Scorpio.  In the next year or so anyway

Hell, i sold my 360 in order to get my One, but I keep scouring Craigslist and Facebook for the right opportunity to buy a used 360 so I can get back 200 or so games in my digital library

Honestly I thought all of the Cave games were region free, good to know. I didn't think of wanting to play Clannad or these other games just for gamerscore, that makes sense but the price didn't seem very good still for as old as the game is.

I'm sure we'll be getting some games that have improved visuals for 1080p like Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4 Pro, or higher framerates, or at least the super sampling of barebones Pro games. Though if that's worth it or not is hard to say. Default Xbone is still supposed to be the standard with Scorpio giving you bells and whistles modes.

I guess eventually we'll see some games that borderline are gimped on default hardware like Last Guardian apparently is.

Quick update on my 2017 goal to work on my backlog.  Recently completed:

- History Channel Civil War Secret Missions

- Night at the Museum

- CSI: Hard Evidence

- Rango

- The Walking Dead: Season 2

- Jurassic Park

- Generator Rex

Of course, no idea why I even bought some of these in the first place, except that they must have been a good deal!

There's more to it than graphics though. I guess that's the difference. Games on the 360 play the same as the ones I've played on the X1. Slightly better graphics (and sometimes not even very noticeably so) just isn't worth a new console to me. A good game is a good game.

It's a common misconception I'd say. The titles that are imported most (presumably) are indeed region free while most of the others have a version in their respective region. Really, the only one that region locking matters with is Deathsmiles II X as it never released in Europe as far as I know so they would require either an NTSC or NTSC-J Xbox.

I've played my share of bad games for easy gamerscore and the CSI games are among the worst if not at the top of the list themselves.

Backlog games I've beaten this year (so far): 0

Sigh.

Decided to pass on Omerta, but the week isn't all that bad. Picked up free Killer Instinct and Rayman Origins.

Holy Shaq-Fu, I just discovered I DID get Bad Company 2 from GWG, it showed up in ready to install. I assumed I didn't have it.

That's totally me.

This was me, until about November. The sales hit good prices, and finally a handful of games I was interested enough in to justify a new system were available and in the $10-20 range (Doom, Arkham Knight, Fallout 4, Halo MCC) in addition to some new/upcoming releases (FFXV, Mass Effect 4) that I figured the ~$200 range for a system I'll have for at least 5 years was a good price. I agree that the leap in tech between generations doesn't seem as significant - games look nicer, but there honestly aren't many games that plain couldn't run on older hardware if they were designed for them and still give a similar experience

Backwards compatibility just makes it an even sounder purchase, since I'd been doing like you and getting GWG and cheap 360 digital titles for awhile. I'm a bit of a minimalist, I don't want to have six different consoles hooked up at once, so the X1 being able to do so much really sold me on it. Plus the S model is really sleek, and I like that it uses so little power.

I have no intention of spending the amount of money needed to get a good 4k display, so Scorpio isn't even on my radar / I don't care at all.

If you're patient, the X1 S can be found on Craigslist for good prices. I found mine barely used in the box for $160...traded in my original X1 for $160 on Amazon...

I've game shared on both and here's my breakdown:

:360: Buying from console: That console gets a license at time of purchase. Any gamertags on that console, even added later, can play offline. Your account owns the game/dlc/movie, so you can play it anywhere you're signed in.

:360: Buying from website: First console to start the download gets the console license, see above.

Pros: Can gameshare with as many people as you're willing to share login info and coordinate downloads with.

Cons: Purchasing things at 3am means you get the console license or you have to use the website (no spacebucks) and remain offline until you coordinate gamesharing.

:xb1: The first xbone you login to is automatically set as your home, and you can change it 3x per year or as much as you want (can't recall). Your home xbone can play any of your content offline, using any gamertag. You can access your purchases from anywhere else that you're signed into. There is no console license, there are account designated home consoles.

Pros: You setup your home console once, and they never have to login as you again to get access your xbl gold sub and all purchased content. You could even change your password and they retain access.

Cons: You can only ever have one home xbox, so you can only gameshare with one console at a time.

I set a goal to complete four games a month for 2017. So far I got two down, 999 and Hue. While Hue isn't that big of a game it still qualifies towards the goal and trying to chew through the backlog. Looking at putting Resident Evil 7 on the list as well.

Power Rangers plays kinda of like what I expected.  It feel and moves more like a flash game than the pixel beat'em ups we were comparing them to (it took me a while to get used to moving so sharply), but it's not shallow.  There's a good amount of moveset and strategy to use such as uppercut/juggling, air striking/juggling, dash attacks, and backhand moves to change directions.  You gain energy from beating putties and other monsters which allows you to incorporate blasters and weapons into your moves more.

My kids love it and my daughter and I actually worked as a team to protect each other when our lives were low.  If you want it, go for it.  If you're kinda interested but want it to go lower, then by all means wait.  $15 is a fine price point for it.

Also, if you're on the fence about Song of the Deep, I can't recommend it enough!  I played it over the Thanksgiving weekend and loved it.  It's like a Ghibli film mixed with Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet.  It's a beautiful metroidvania and looks so much better than that garbage looking new release from this yesterday.

I had originally said I wanted to beat 50 games this year, but I think I'm gonna shoot for 100. Already beat Halo Wars Definitive, CoD Infinite Warfare, Escape Dead Island, Walking Dead Michonne and Superhot. The short games still definitely count, and I have a bunch of them, so I plan on taking advantage of that.

Lololol @ the 1 being a "slight" upgrade from the 360. Shit like Arkham Knight and Gears Of War UE would never look that beautiful on that system.
Yeah a bit surprised by some of the comments. X1 is a beast in power in terms against the 360. Hell even some of the BC games run better on the X1 now. Anything with a unlocked frame rate ticks much higher, and usually the only games that run worst are because of crushed blacks or something silly. Dark Souls X1 runs at double the frame rate for example.

I like my Xbox One and it looks fine, but when I compare the gap between the xbox and xbox 360, the step to the xbox one doesn't seem as big of a jump. I can understand it being called a slight upgrade.

Quick update on my 2017 goal to work on my backlog. Recently completed:

- History Channel Civil War Secret Missions

- Night at the Museum

- CSI: Hard Evidence

- Rango

- The Walking Dead: Season 2

- Jurassic Park

- Generator Rex

Of course, no idea why I even bought some of these in the first place, except that they must have been a good deal!
I find that pushing through backlog trash games makes the AAA titles even better when you make time for them. I played a bunch of crap for like a month before I finally sat down with the Tomb Raider reboot and was just blown away by it. I mean I know it's great anyway, but enjoying it after a backlog palate cleanser made the experience even better.
