Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

They had a holiday break for the human employees to be with families. Everything in your post is speculation.
But how do you explain yesterday and no announcement of new BC games?

EDIT - :whee:

How do you think things will go?
Everything in his post would probably also be speculation. The point is that nobody that isn't involved in the program knows anything.

Should I sell my XBox One tomorrow? When the Scorpion comes out this fall it will spell the beginning of the end right? Sure MS says there will be no exclusives but you have to know eventually (years) they will probably change that stance.

Seriously everything comes to end. Nothing any reputable source says BC is coming to end any time soon.

I'm not pretending to not be speculating with my speculation on where the program will go. What I do know, is that I am not wrong in my speculation despite it being just speculation, so I want to see what they speculate so I cannot speculate but rather confirm how wrong their speculation is.

No, your Xbox One will be fine. If you were to get rid of it you should do it through a retailer trade in closer to launch if you want to get a Scorpio. BC is a program that is working on limited titles remaining. Yes, everything ends. I just think BC probably has another year before it ends as a weekly feature in early 2018.

This is the first I've seen anything about Torment:  Tides of Numenera (I'm sure it's been mentioned here before), but this trailer has me intrigued:

Seeing Obsidian Entertainment and InXile Entertainment at the end of the trailer has me experiencing a slight pants-tightening effect. :)

Mine is a fat and will likely be worth almost nothing at that point. $75 at Game Stop last I looked and you have to include a controller. Doubt Game Stop or Best Buy will do any thing decent in the way of trade promos for those of us with original XBox One. For that little money I would just keep it and put it on a second TV or maybe give it to my nephew but he is solidly Sony only.

All I know is Mr. Phil said in an interview that he was excited about some of the titles coming to BC in 2017 and, being less than three weeks into the new year, I have no reason to doubt that there's still plenty more to come.

Why are people stating that "BC is dead"? Was there some sort of announcement that I missed?
One dude said the sky is falling.

They will never announce it, but the program has become inconsistent in the last couple weeks. The program is winding down, albeit slowly.
Eyeeaah, so you just stated albeit slowly, how the fuck is that DEAD!?

What's the temperature of the room on buying shovel knight now versus a sale? I was gonna get the Wii U version so that I could play multiplayer with a friend which is why I didn't buy it last time on sale. Now they've announced that multiplayer and some content is coming with a price increase with previous owners getting the content for free. So I want to pick it up but don't really need it right now, should I wait for a sale or go ahead and pick it up now so I don't have to pay the price increase?

I would consult the sage advice of a revered CAG that has already stated an opinion on this. But since I can't find that, here is my dumbass assumption a few pages back:

Confirmed - no more sales for Shovel Knight.

I can't make heads nor tails of what they are trying to do here. :) I think it boils down to buying the game now gets you all the stuff when it releases?

Was watching RE7 on Twitch last night and glancing over the achievements. There's a cheevie for finishing it under 4 hrs
I wonder if that entails just planting explosive charges all over the house and then making it back outside alive to level the place.

Sounds more like classic RE where the game is short once you know what you're doing. I think 1 took me 16 hours the first time without a guide. Was able to get the speed running achievement shortly after with no problems.

I guess reading even the few sentences at that link are beneficial. :) Reading through the comments, it looks like half of the posters in that thread are :dunce: .

It's all good haha, I'm excited so wanted to find out myself anyways :D And yeah, the comments do indeed make it seem that way haha

I doubt we'll see another sale before the price raise, and I assume at the best it might go back down to $15 on a future sale after said raise. The price change was only said to be coming in "spring", though I would guess it'll probably alongside the release of Specter of Torment.

As for not needing it now, I guess it depends if it's worth saving $5-15 dollars now and adding it to your backlog, or waiting until an unknown date for a future sale. Shovel Knight has never been more than $5 off, and has only actually gone on sale 2 or 3 times.

Shit, apparently Puyo Puyo Tetris is only coming to Switch and PS4 in the west. I guess we still have to import, seems like an odd choice since they already are localizing it and have a probably near pointless Japanese Xbox version made. Maybe it'll come later but since it doesn't only say Switch it seems unlikely.

http://puyo.sega.com/tetris/#

Yeah, a Sega developed Tetris game that already has an Xbox port created seemed like a good chance of coming once a multiplatform western release was announced.

Since they announced the price increase, I doubt it will go on sale, so consider $15 the sale price on Shovel Knight. Unless you just hate platformers and well-made videogames, it's well worth the price, especially with the DLC expansion campaigns.

Re: CAGer... "Cheap Ass Gamerer" sounds like something he'd accidentally say so maybe.

Come on, Timesplitters.

While I try to work on the Xbox 360 backlog (Pick up the pace, Mass Effect. Stop kicking my ass, Ninja Gaiden and Super Meatboy), this is the Xbox One I hope to buy eventually:

I'm predicting 1 or more of the Army of Two games going BC tomorrow.

They will never announce it, but the program has become inconsistent in the last couple weeks. The program is winding down, albeit slowly. They will likely keep it going until they get 500 titles before making it a monthly/occasional feature (essentially leaving it dead). Some publishers are clearly being dicks with games. Plus we're not going to see expired or dead licenses, old sports, or kinect games. That coupled with some publishers holding back, really limits the titles remaining, especially once they surpass 500.
Who cares? Just move on and stop whining about it.

It's become an XBL sales thread meme at this point, though not on par with the Chilean miners or anything.

Nobody's saying you don't have the right to speculate, but even your speculation is full of misinformation. I mean, in the last month alone they had like a two week holiday break. Since the BC team got back after the holidays, we've already had 10 games hit BC. How is that inconsistent?

Again, you admitted you're speculating, but I just don't understand why people like to basically make crap up and present it as a "likely" outcome. Why 500 games? Why not 550? 600? 729? I don't think we know for sure that publishers are being dicks at all. Some very big pubs are clearly on board (EA, Activision), but are also clearly drip-feeding their BC games, probably so that all the big titles don't come out at once. Who knows...maybe they've given approval and MS is the one doing the drip feed.

#fake news

Sad!

"Backward compatibility is dead."

"Fine, but it's definitely dying. The publishers don't like it."

"Bad Company 2 is a false flag to distract that it's totally on life support, you'll see!"

"Alright, but they're going to really slow it down after 500. After that they'll definitely kill it off."

Keep moving the goalposts and you'll eventually be right!

Thank you to all the sage advice from the CAGs here in regards to shovel knight. I'll pick it up this weekend.

In regards to BC I'm a broken record about this but while there may be a few games that I would like to go BC, the only one that comes to mind that I'm really pulling for is Civ Rev. I'd love to play that again with my friends. I see no reason why they would stop or even slow down the BC releases now but even if they did, I'm absolutely shocked and thrilled with how well the program has worked and been supported. When they initially made the announcement I tempered my enthusiasm because how poor the original xbox to 360 support was but this BC has been wonderful and has made it possible for me to play a great deal of 360 games that would have been left by the wayside. Just last week I played Left 4 Dead 2 with some friends on the X1 and had a wonderful time.

Yeah - there are always going to be the fanboys for each system, and they'll never change. The truth of the matter is that the X1 has kicked the shit out of the PS4 with BC and the apps this go around.

Not a fanboy on either side but Microsoft certainly made life easier with the external hard drive option too. Just spent the last 24 hours redownloading and all the other bullshit associated with having to replace my PS4 internal. Still not done. What a pain in the ass.

Speaking of pain of the ass:

I'm done with Super Meatboy. That game seriously needed a checkpoint option. Defeated Dr. Fetus and never have to play it again.

Ninja Gaiden makes me miss the NES games. There's this boss that kills me with 4 hits. And to make matters worse, the checkpoint takes 2 minutes to reach.

And even as the new captain of the Normandy, Mass Effect 1 is so boring. More walking, more dialogue. And I thought it took forever to get to the good stuff in Asura's Wrath.  Geez.  The "Let's Play" I'm watching says it's where the game picks up. I suppose that means jogging and speed talking because wow, it looks like the same old thing.  I really hope Mass Effect 2 is better than this; I can't stand watching/playing the first one any longer.

Also time to drop Fez. It was good while it lasted, but my patience to continue with it is gone.

Quick wish/delisted BC list

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Marvel Vs Capcom Origins
The Simpsons
X-men arcade

One can dream right ?

P.S. I own all of them and hope you do too , in case this happens before it dies again

I'm new to the XB1 environment (still own multiple 360s and love the console). My GF gave me an XB1 S BF1 1tb console for Xmas (fantastic gift!), and I had been buying some physical games on great sales in preparation since I knew it was coming (FH3, Gears 4, Halo 5, Gears Ultimate, etc.).

After I set it up and was learning the dashboard, I found the "Ready to Install" area under "My Games and Apps", and was blown away to see so many of my 360 digital games, ready to go! One of my favorites of all time was right there, Hydro Thunder Hurricane, along with a nice set of other digital games from the 360 days. I consider it a huge plus that MS has been working on BC games, and appreciate the work they've put into it. So far I'm really liking the console and games, and appreciate having the system as part of my gaming collection. I do hope for more games on the BC list in the future, especially Burnout 3, Burnout Revenge, and Black (to name just a few).

Has anyone played Contrast? I passed on it last time it was cheap on 360 because I knew there were next gen ports. Then I passed on it when it went on sale for $5 on the one because it had been half that on 360. So does anybody know if there is much of a difference?

Only difference I know of is Contrast is 1000 Gamerscore on the X1 and 400 on the Xbox 360. Otherwise, they're the same exact game.

I'm moving my goal posts and hoping they release Marble Blast Ultra, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter II, or Hitman tomorrow.
So...if they fail to come to BC tomorrow, that means the program is dead, right?
