I think it looks cool. The incompatibility comment could be just them covering their ass in the off chance current games need updates to work and some developers not wanting to update. The mouse functionality would be great if they port/ bring over RTS games and the like that utilize mice.

My last question RE: Backwards Compatibility is if the Switch 1 games get a performance boost on Switch 2.

That is likely the deciding factor between getting one at launch versus later. I imagine the third party launch window is going to be PS4 port city and Nintendo is likely going to be pretty thin through the holidays.

Nintendo is covering themselves with things like Labo not being compatible on Switch 2.

Plenty of Nintendo ports coming on Switch 1 that can be played on Switch 2 in addition to the few Switch 2 Nintendo games in the launch year. Looking at you Windwaker HD along with a good chance for Twilight Princess HD.

Other rumored Nintendo ports to hold us over are Metroid prime2, Kirby Planet Robobot, F-Zero GX Remaster

That's what I figure on the compatibility. Of course the new joycons (Joycon 2?) aren't going to fit in certain things or there might be something missing in them like the IR camera that affects certain games. Or stuff like the ring fit adventure ring is not going to hold a Joycon 2. As long as all the regular normal games work, I think it'll be fine. The only game out of left field I'd be slightly worried about is The World Ends With You Final Remix where the right joycon is used as a pointer. But if the system has compatibility with original Joycons, then it won't matter as much that something isn't compatible with Joycon 2.

That better be Mario Kart 9 and not Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 2.
I'm hoping they don't call it MK9. 7 & 8 made sense. 7 introduced the glider, which sorta looks like a 7. 8 was angled and sorta resembled the anti-grav thing on the bottom of the karts. Also a new item. I can't think of anything that they would add that would slightly resemble a 9.

If Big N was smart, they'd pull a Microsoft and make the current Switch controllers be forward compatible with the new system. Detached only, obviously.

Mouse function with Joycon really opens the door for RTS games as others above have mentioned.

I am all for it but how would RTS games work in handheld mode? Just use touchscreen?

That was underwhelming but it was nice to finally get official confirmation from Nintendo and also knowing in April that we will get a direct that will give us all the info we wanted today.

I'd see it as probably prop the tablet up on the table and use the joy-cons detached.

So that basically means Switch 1 joycons won't connect to Switch 2? Cause I like my Ring Fit
I thought I read somewhere (long time ago) that switch 1 joy-cons and accessories would work on the switch 2. I would think you could use Ring Fit as normal with the older joy-cons. But if someone were to buy it after they got the Switch 2 then it wouldn't work and they'd need to buy older joy-cons.

It seemed like a slightly bigger Switch. Not much is changing outside of games looking a bit better and two back buttons right by the triggers. It still doesn't have triggers from what that CG flyby camera showed and there's still no d-pad. They're keeping the power button on the left side to keep me confused when switching back and forth from Steam Deck to Switch.

I guess the plastic protectors that you used once for the top of the joy-cons are built on, which is a much smarter way to do it. It seems like it'll be a little bit harder to damage the way the joy-cons clip or snap into the tablet itself, but I'm sure it'll still be doable for the right kids to fuck up an expensive machine. Speakers on the bottom, which could be bad or good depending on how much you rest it on something if you're in handheld mode.

All kinds of stuff. You wouldn’t see a 7 and immediately think glider. We could fly around with balloons 9 now.

Yea, this is the first Switch hardware release in a long time that doesn't have a new gimmick that defines the system (no, the mouse doesn't count, you can use a mouse on the PS5/XS systems). It's just bigger and better than the last one.

Nintendo is playing it extremely safe this time.

That's what I'm thinking as well. Older controllers will be compatible but they have to put the note for those buying the new system thinking it alone is all they need to play older games. Most will work with the new joycons but some will require extra hardware.

My question is: why does the Switch 2 still stick out from the dock? It looked weird with the first Switch and it still looks weird.

Total guess here, but I think it basically comes down to cost. The front part of the dock is basically a screen protector (and not a very good one as it doesn't entirely cover the screen) while the back part has the circuit boards the dock needs. It could be taller and cover the whole system, but then more material would be used, thereby increasing the cost of the dock. And with Nintendo not subsidizing the console at all, they want to keep the cost as low as possible. It might only cost a few pennies more to make the dock cover everything, but that cost ads up fast!

New Mario Kart looks open world possibly. Check out how far the track extends out into the horizon when the camera pans out near the end of the footage. I was wondering where the series could possibly innovate after the immaculate MK8, but a Nintendo take on a Forza Horizon type series could be gold. At the very least, 24 racers in a single race will be crazy hectic fun.

Also Donkey Kong got a redesign and looks extremely goofy.

I mean, Nintendo marks are going to buy it no matter what. We’re the weirdos who bought a Wii U, and somehow liked it lol.

The normies are just now waking up to the fact that a Switch 2 is even coming out. Most people aren’t terminally online and haven’t been reading the rumors and tea leaves for the past 2 years. And it remains to be seen how they react to this thing that looks exactly like an og switch, and so far only features one game that, let’s face it, doesn’t look that much better than the decade-old MK8.

The joy cons feel very gimmicky. Using them as a mouse will probably be utilized just as much as IR is on the current JCs (which is not at all).

Aside from performance and backwards compatibility, screen size was my biggest want. However, the price will be an obstacle for most people. And I expect I'll need to sell/trade in my Switch V2 towards it, but it already feels like that won't even get me half way there

I honestly think we get another tier for next wave of systems that may be added (GameCube, Dreamcast etc…)

The Expansion Pass Plus :D
I think 3 tiers is too confusing. Bump up the high tier to include other systems and folks will want to upgrade to Switch 2 to play games they have access to but can’t play.
