Best Buy YMMV Thread

mikeshinobi

CAGiversary!
Can we have a thread where we share deals we find at our local Best Buys? Of course they're always YMMV but it would give us ideas of what to look out for.

I have two local best buys and each of them had different deals:

Best Buy #1:

  • Dragon Quest Builders 2 (NSW): $15.99
Best Buy #2:

  • Disgaea 4 (NSW): $15.99
  • Dead Cells (NSW): $10.99
  • Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology (3DS): $12.99 (didn't get this, very sad)
  • Some other 3DS title I was extremely sad I missed out on (3DS): $10.99
There were some others but these were the ones that stood out the most that I can remember.

Also for anyone who doesn't know, if your Best Buy has a price placard out for a game but they're sold out, you can ask an employee to order it for you from their website and they will match their in-store price! Of course they have to have stock on the website though.

I got the $5 cert. Ended up preordering Trails through Daybreak II. This is usually what I like to do with certs. Just use them for a game I'm 100% getting. IF there are no games available for preorder I want at launch... I'll pick a game far in the future to preorder then do a cancel to get a new cert when I find something I do want. Besides Daybreak II, Xenoblade Chronicles X would have been an easy choice.

not ymmv but Stellar Blade DOTD $39.99 @ Best Buy, I think it's at Amazon matched too.

oof guess its on front page of CAG too hah

I not "fan service" game type person, so that's a pretty big turn off. I haven't heard the music, but I guess I'm not alone.
I was mostly joking. I enjoyed the combat, but the story was pretty meh and I actually thought the music got a little repetitive if you played an area for too long looking for collectibles. I ultimately did not finish it, but with the PS5 pro patch might go back at some point this year.

Stellar Blade was in my stack of games I grabbed during buy 2 get 1 at GameStop after Christmas. I just wasn’t getting around to playing most of the stuff I had picked up so I decided to give a good 30 minutes or so to everything and keep what grabbed my attention before trading back.

Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin were 2 of the ones I decided to hang onto because they at least grabbed my attention right off the bat. Not sure if they both hold up or not but I felt like they both at least started strong.

What's the odds of me getting compensation with them delaying my game I order with the $10 cert. Figured I should had picked it up and not mailed

Edit: now they saying they gonna issue a refund if its not shipped by the 31st. So how will that work with the $10 certificate

was it earned $10 or free $10?

If you have a Total Membership, they’re doing the “pick one of these deals” thing again, and one of the choices is the Nintendo World Championships NES Deluxe Set for $30 (half off).

Go in the app, click Wallet, and look for the Member Picks section.

Can you get these deals without the app; meaning browser login?

Best Buy is supposed to be raising prices across the board due to tariffs, so who knows, they might actually cost over MSRP soon.

Noticed most everything is up slightly than before - companies slowly edging prices up so they don't have spike prices when tariffs happen. No doubt tariffs will cause game prices to go up and new consoles from Nintendo will be impacted.

I thought folks voted for lower prices and less taxes. We instead get higher prices and more taxes. I don't care what you call tariffs -- in the end, we're all just paying more to the federal government than what we were paying before for the same stuff.

How does that make any sense? If they're cutting all that staff and reducing budgets, why should we all be made to pay these fu#$head leaders more money?

Nintendo has is already ahead on this. They started by moving some Switch manufacturing to Vietnam and have slowly been ramping up production there. So I think the tarriffs won't hit their products as much as other platforms will. Like, I think all the BR discs are manufactured in Mexico for north america. Some over in Germany... but most stuff is Mexico.

I think the last video game I got at Best Buy without one of those random certs sent out by email was Dead Cells Castlevania for like $18 on the switch, not even that spectacular of a deal tbh.

My last wast returnal I believe for $15 without the cert that was years ago. I just redeem a BB gift card just in case theres a good clearance one day that or a DOTD which I doubt there will be a good one but you never know. Better then walmart which I also did a gift card redeem but it's been months and nothing there. Maybe I should've done a gamestop card instead.

it’s gonna be much easier to skip doing another year my Best Buy plus this time around. I definitely made my money back in savings by loading up on switch preorders back when I re-subbed so I’m not upset but since then, aside from a couple $9 surge protectors they’ve sent me as “offers” I’ve barely ordered anything from them the last 6 months or so.

The final straw was when I ordered monster hunter wild “on or shortly after release day” which they didn’t ship till the evening of release day from all the way across the country using one of the slowest speeds it seems like so “release day” ended up being 6 days later. Like, come on, that’s slower than Amazon without prime. If I’m paying extra, I have some expectation that you’re offering me something, anything for that premium.

So if I’m not getting any bump to shipping, the “exclusive deals” are mostly glorified store-brand clearance, and with the release of Switch 2 it’s unlikely they’re doing buy 2 get 1 on Switch games again, there’s no point anymore.

That’s fine, I’ve still got this existing membership until the middle of August and it seems like Switch 2 will be launching sometime before that.
I didn't know there was a release date for it, I figured fall for the whole Holiday season rush...not that they will need it. I am sure it's going to sell like crazy. Course they won't have AC and a world pandemic to help sales :ROFLMAO: (too soon? too crazy? too conspiratorial?)

I figured June-July so early adopters & parents wanting something to babysit kids over the summer buy it. Then Nintendo would have another surge of people getting it for the holidays as well.

I don't think it'll release within the next 6 months or they'd actually have a release date set in stone and preorders would be open.

There’s not an official release date yet, that seems like it will be announced beginning of April but there’s enough signs out there that they’re well into production already indicating the release is sooner rather than later. It’s always possible they delay till fall/Q4 but it doesn’t seem too likely right now.

I kind of hope that Nintendo let's us just order the system directly through store.nintendo.com. There's no need for a middleman for existing switch owners. Just lock it to NSO subscribers that have been active for the last 90 days or something to prevent scalpers from firing up a bunch of accounts to mess with supplies. I'd likely do a preorder that way. Outside of that, I'll wait like I did with the Switch for them to be stocked at Walmart. Nearest BB is too far away and I haven't been in the last GS in the area for a couple years.

Would prefer if they locked it to just people with old Nintendo accounts. I have over 100 switch games but no NSO. Would be annoyed if my commitment to switch wouldn’t let me pre order lol

Yeah, that could work too. Really, anything to give us an easy path that are real existing customers and not resellers.

I wouldn't be surprised if scalpers already prepared for that possibility sadly. And it wouldn't be likely they'd have multiple accounts easily due to splitting the cost of the plan.

That's insane. Usually I am all about not caring and point to all the fun I have had with the game since it released.....I wonder how much the sales for 26 will drop this year when gamers are patient enough to wait
There’s usually a steep drop in price after professional and college football seasons but this seems like the most significant in recent years.

As long as you had fun with your friends at the end of the day that’s all that matters.

I have no friends so waiting til $9.99 makes sense for me. 😆

But I do have a question, the BB that I visited today had 3 people working. 1 at the entry, and two trying to cover the entire store. The checkout line was bonkers.

How does that happen? Is that the new normal for them?

Yes. Target and Best Buy cut hours. They’re purposely running skeleton crew.

Could have been some "sick" call outs for st Paddy's day combined with someone taking a lunch. Definitely not normal. There's usually 1 at the door, two at the registers, one at order pickup, a runner for curbside and several throughout the store as well as a manager and/or assistant manager.

I mean it’s just another sports game. Pretty much all the sports games get to this price and are included in one of Best Buy’s “10 days of gaming” sales for $10 or whatever.
