new Hyrule Warriors - Age of Imprisonment is so far the only thing I'm hyped for.... but there's still 12 min left.

Funny how we've been talking Age of Calamity and now here's a new one.

No price? No info on when we can order? That isnt a good sign.

Donkey Kong may have saved the day here. I was thinking about just waiting for Mario Odyssey 2 but DK:B looks like it will scratch the same itch.

Was expecting $499.99 myself, so that's a bit better. Guess I'm paying that if I want the Mario Kart bundle haha. Really doubt I'll get it the first year, but I haven't seen the full direct myself, only the part about 2K games and forward.

I thought it was awesome and worth the wait! Pathetic the stream had delay problems though. I didn't expect both a price and release date so nothing surprising there. They didn't mention how much the upgrades will cost. I am hoping it's similar to Sony where it's a standard $10 and then it's up to devs if they want to charge the same, more or free. Natethehate called it with no 3-D Mario. Switch 2 is more powerful than the leaks suggested. Will know more details on the specs soon.

No price is surprising along with lack of pre-order information. The stream itself was as bad as I've seen from any of these showcases with a bad audio delay for the entire stream and the video crashing to keep two games from being shown (Enter the Gungeon 2 and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade).

Seems to be $449 for the Switch 2 and $499 with Mario Kart World. You can register to get notified when they're available to order from Nintendo on that link, though it's one-time choice for Nintendo account holders.

  • Nintendo Account holders in the US and Canada who are at least 18 years old are eligible to register.
  • The first batch of invitations will go out starting May 8, 2025, with additional batches of invitation email sent periodically until purchasing on My Nintendo Store is opened to everyone.
  • Initial invitation emails will be delivered on a first-come, first-serve basis to eligible registrants who meet the priority criteria. Invitees will have 72 hours from the time when the email is sent to complete their purchase.
  • Priority requirements are as follows: As of 4/2/2025, (i) you must have been the one who purchased any Nintendo Switch Online membership, (ii) you must have had any paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for a minimum of 12 months, and (iii) you must have opted in to share gameplay data and have at least 50 hours total gameplay hours.

PS5 is also considered older hardware now and is likely on the back end of the system life now. I think it's reasonable priced for the hardware IMHO.

Mario Kart World is $79.99

Donkey Kong Bananza is $69.99

Nintendo has lost their minds in a bad way. My hype went way down. They are charging too much for their system and too much for their games. About to get DESTROYED by the gaming media.

You know CAGs don't pay retail. I'm sure there will be trade-ins, QVC coupons, and price errors to get everything once the initial rush (scalper shenanigans) dies down.

I don't see myself using video camera chat, so... savings!

NSO on Switch 2 changes and additions:

The Nintendo Switch Online library of classic games—now renamed as Nintendo Classics**—is expanding to include a collection of titles from Nintendo GameCube™!

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members will soon be able to play The Legend of Zelda™: The Wind Waker, F-ZERO™ GX, and SOULCALIBUR II on Nintendo Switch 2, with more games coming in the future. Some games include fun in-game options, like a retro screen filter and widescreen gameplay.

Selected upgrade packs at no additional cost
Switch2Editions-Hero

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members playing on Nintendo Switch 2 will soon gain access to upgrade packs for both the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom games, allowing them to enjoy the Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of these games at no additional cost. Note: you must have either The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for Nintendo Switch to use the respective upgrade pack.

Who here is day one? I am not as of right now. Nintendo has gone Sony PS3 levels insane.

I'm ok waiting. As much as I want the performance upgrade for my existing games, I still want to wait for hardware reviews and sales. I'm definitely not paying $80 for a Mario Kart!

And a lot of you guys had less than 3 hours played for your 2024 year end stats. Some of y'all should definitely wait 😅

Switch 2 supports other USB-C cameras besides the one Nintendo's selling.

I went ahead and put in my registration on nintendo.com to get contacted for a preorder of just the system. I will eventually want it anyway, so might as well go the no hassle route. I still need to learn more, but there is time between now and June to see what games are backwards compatible, what the price is on the upgrade 2 edition games for the regular switch games I own, and so on.

Nintendo has lost their minds in a bad way. My hype went way down. They are charging too much for their system and too much for their games. About to get DESTROYED by the gaming media.
The fact they're coming in at $50 less than vastly more powerful systems for the sake of mobility/battery life is a major turnoff, BUT all things being equal I do feel if PS5 and XSX were to be released today they would have been priced at $100-150 more that current due to greedflation. The unfortunate fact is Nintendo got their timing terribly wrong.

That said, it is still hilarious to see games that are 2-3 years old announced for Switch 2 as new releases. This has always been my major complaint about Nintendo: sacrificing hardware specs for mobility that I would absolutely benefit nothing from. Their games have been watered down to the lowest common denominator as well in terms of difficulty, something I experienced first hand for the brief time I gave Switch a chance. On the flip side of that, shame on FROM for being bought off again with exclusivity. Makes me sad Japan can't get over walled gardens.

I will say this: adding mouse support to the joycons is at least an innovative idea assuming you have a flat surface to work with. Props to them for coming up with something of value because otherwise, it really is just a Switch 2.0.

Game Chat is locked behind Online Membership. Free to try only until March 2026. then becomes a paid feature.

my two big question are:
  1. will the old Pro controllers will still work in spite of the new versions?
  2. will the graphical upgrade packs, the NSW2 versions (of TotK, Kirby, Metroid) be permanent unlocks from a one-time claiming on Nintendo Switch Online membership? Or is it "Active Membership" required to run the upgraded software...

I've never felt the need to pay for Online before.

On the preorder page it shows the preorders start May 8th

The first batch of invitations will go out starting May 8, 2025, with additional batches of invitation email sent periodically until purchasing on My Nintendo Store is opened to everyone.

I'm probably down for the new GC controller ... though if the OG Switch Pro controller is fine for Switch 2 (I don't care about the C button functionality) then i'll probably stick with it.

Mario Kart World is $79.99

Wait. Are we seeing the first $80 non-premium game with this announcement? Let's hope that's a typo because they will be eaten alive for forcing the needle on a day like today.

They've detailed Game-Key Cards, which are physical games that require a download that'll be on the box art:
