WiiU servers are dead for online play. No matter the company, I hold no trust for these drm schemes to last more than 10 years before you lose access to the digital game.

You are mixing issues between online play servers and download app store servers. You fail to prove your point on digital purchases. Nintendo hasn't revoked access to purchased digital content in it's near 20 years of doing this. So if those original DSiWare and Wii games are still able to be downloaded this long after the DSi & Wii were even on the market, I think Switch will be fine for a long time to come and Switch 2 ... well beyond your 10 year paranoia.

For playstation consoles and stuff past that orginal Xbox Live Arcade store... it's all still around even near (or just over for Xbox) 20 years later. I can still go into my PS3 and download my purchases from the Playstation Store. Steam, same thing.

So I don't know.. but does that mean if I find a Ambassador 3ds System i can transfer those Ambassador games to my system.. always wondered how to get them privileged games for myself on my 3ds ..

If both systems are linked to the same Nintendo ID, it is still possible to do that. I guess it would depend on if the original system was ever linked to a Nintendo ID ... or if they were tied to the old eshop or what. Also, not sure if you need the original eshop account user/pwd or anything. I'm sure the reddit sub for the 3DS or Nintendo subreddit would have more answers for people who have done it recently. Or maybe there's a youtube video you could watch.

Of course now, in modern times, you don't really need the ambassador stuff. Sure, it's a cool to have, but one of the good things about these older systems is once they are out of the market (and sometimes before) they get hacked and you can run whatever you want on them.

Yeah, given how Nintendo themselves, more frequently than any other publisher on Switch will revise the cartridge with newest patches, that messaging around the upgrade pack being included always just seemed like awkward branding and messaging, like they want to stress the upgrade pack as being a separate thing but that it’s still just basically a paid expansion at the end of the day.

Still good to get the confirmation though.

Biggest mistakes Nintendo has made so far:

  1. Eliminating the free pack-in game.
It's kinda them making a statement that you aren't going to get Wii Sports for free any longer. Welcome Tour should have been free with console purchase. Almost no one is going to buy that. It's a bad look.
  2. Should have launched in Q3 or Q4 2024. whoopsie daisy. All this delaying did not allow for a smoother launch like they so meticulously crafted.
  3. 'Game Key carts' unfortunately normalize rampant "code-in-a-box behavior" across all publishers. Also cheapens the box art.
  4. Stringing people along with these lack of Metroid release date and delay tactics, just to have a proper software release cadence.
This game was announced in 2017 ffs. Ok...I guess I can wait to buy a Switch 2 until Sept. or Nov. then. maybe I change my mind or buy a different major electronics purchase instead.
  5. Re-releasing and attempted double dipping on games yet again. Ambiguous cart version types. While certain third party titles just run upgraded and better.
  6. Game Chat is a paid feature wtf
  7. NSW2 is $330 in Japan and $450 in the US. we don't want to hear about adaptation to tariffs, you've had months; more price increases would be borderline xenophobia towards your primary market.

One thing is for certain: vg companies always underestimate the magnitude of disaster and fallout from a failed launch. There is a LOT of corporate hubris at play here. and almost zero benevolence.

I can't stand here and say the SW2 will be a failed launch. I am sure at some point I will end up with one, but there is nothing that makes me say that I have to have it. Besides, I still have Zelda Tears of the Kingdom in it's wrapping that I want to play.

It is eerily similar to the whole Wii --> Wii U changing of the guard as far as Nintendo is not differentiating the new console from the old one. I for one do not see a major change from Mario Kart 8 and World. With X and the 5 there was always talk about bigger and more powerful. Maybe all the companies are making missteps with the X and the digital (weaker) version and the naming decisions, the PS5 and the PS5Pro, and now the SW1 to the SW2

I think the Switch 2 launch will be botched primarily for reasons beyond their control. Nintendo only has about 1/3 of its manufacturing capacity in Vietnam.

I suppose they could just trickle the US market with only 1/3 their rate capacity while they realign to make China build 95% of the unit and make Vietnam the final assembly site to bypass most of the tariffs? But that would still take time.

They could try and tough it out, but I wouldn't want to answer that investors call if Trump goes bananas again and doubles down again-again.

Number 2 is the biggest one, IMO. I think they had a very specific idea in mind for this launch, and if the rumors are to be believed that Switch 2 actually began development 5 years ago as a Switch Pro (which seems pretty plausible given what we’ve seen so far), they really should have timed this launch better.

I’m not entirely sure how far in advance everything needs to lineup for a console launch, but if they could have launched last year 3rd or 4th quarter, they absolutely should have. I think they, along with a lot of us, underestimated just how disruptive the new presidential administration would be to be global markets and trade.

The original Switch never had a pack-in and it did just fine. I’m sure that’s part of their mindset here with having the tech demo as a paid download because outside the deluxe bundle even back to the Wii U there wasn’t a packin game. And I can’t even remember the last time they had a handheld packin at launch, Gameboy?

Which is a small part of what's making me think preordering makes the most sense for me. No doubt I will want a Switch 2. Mostly I want it for the winter and release of the new Hyrule Warriors game. So I'll likely say yes when Nintendo sends me my email invite to preorder directly through them. Just get it done, and whatever happens over the next 3 years 9 months and like 9 days ... I'm not going to be (hopefully too) affected by whatever bs trump does. 🤞

I think you mean if he goes Donkey Kong Bananzas again...

I think you are both wrong using the word "if"

Zelda BotW on Switch 2 is not complete on cart. You still have to buy the DLC separately.

Christ on a cracker, that's certainly a bold move. No tariff excuse there! More so when there was/is a physical edition in Japan that had the complete game on cart.

So there's really no incentive to get the switch 2 edition of games at full price. Cart comes incomplete and cost $90 for the full experience.

SO if the games are going to cost $90 for depth of play, quality, whatever Nintendo decides for the increase price. How much is an Extra SW2 controller going to cost now that it has mouse support? $100?

Also, just to ge the word out

Estimated delivery is Dec 2025 (but we all know how that can go)

BOTW is unfortunate, but that's the only one that's an outlier

TOTK, Kirby, Metroid, Mario Party, and Pokemon don't have any DLC to worry about, and the upgrades and game are on a Switch 2 cart, so there's your incentive.

I don't see the the big deal about the DLC not being included. If you've farted around for 8 years without experiencing one of the greatest open world and one of the greatest zelda games of all time, then that's on you. So pay the price or don't. Who cares. I have no sympathy for your plight.

You aren't a fan of the series if you've waited this long to buy it. For those who already own it, let this be the thing that breaks you of the compulsion to get everything complete on one cart. It's not necessary. You will survive. Breathe.

Oh, but it's about the price. Again, any serious fan of the series and any serious gamer already bought BOTW and the expansion. It's $10 to upgrade unless you have Nintendo Online's expansion pass (which makes the upgrade free). Like, it's not that big of a deal. I know though people like to bitch... and no one more than those who don't even play the switch let alone are ready to buy a Switch 2.

Eh, I think that's complacency with Nintendo doing stuff Nintendo doesn't need to do and only does because they can get away with it.

I own a Switch (two, in fact) and have BotW and all the content and can still readily call charging over MSRP for an eight year old Wii U title and not including the DLC a real bad deal. More so, the $10 upgrade for performance increases and a phone app is absolute bullcrap.

It may not move the needle for you, but it's absolutely a continued trend of the market getting worse for the customer. More frustrating for me is folks such as yourself going "meh, big deal," because when they take an inch, they're reaching for that mile.

If Nintendo has the gall to charge full price for their dull-as-dirt antique of a game they could at the very least offer the complete version. I know they value their games, don't want to overly discount them, yadda yadda. But, charging more for an eight-year-old game than when it was new should be called out.

Which pokemon game? Most have dlc. Arceus has no paid dlc like sword and shield scarlet Violet but it still had dlc stuff.

And as already mentioned there was a complete version on the switch. So there's 0 justification for it on Switch 2 not being complete on cart. Charging more for getting less on top of the price increase is pure greed.

Odds are legends zygarde will have paid dlc just like the previous games unless we are lucky and it's just free stuff again.

If that was the case, why didn't the first legends game receive dlc? Why did the Pearl/Diamond remakes omit things from Platinum? Gamefreak doesn't have to try as hard anymore. Only the mainline games get "attention". I can only hope Gamefreak/Nintendo really put in effort to fix Violet/Scarlet's numerous issues on the Switch 2.

It's good to know that anyone complaining about some of the scummy things Nintendo's doing don't even play the Switch and aren't ready to buy a Switch 2. What a weird thing to say. 🤷‍♂️

I just find it strange people just love to bitch endlessly about things they won't buy and never intended to buy. The circle of negativity is kind of draining. I never said the price was fair or right or whatever, just, sucks to be you if this really is the end of your world. No one has to buy these versions of these games. Find something fun to play and enjoy in life. There's more wrong in the world than the state of DLC inclusions in re-releases with slight upgrades or the price of this stuff. If it doesn't sell, Nintendo will adjust like during the 3DS era. It's kind of exhausting most of the posts lately are just venting endlessly about things no one here can do anything about.

I'm going to get a switch 2 and will test a lot of the things people have had questions and concerns about. I'm sure others here will as well. I have a pretty solid library of games. So, feedback will be useful going forward for those interested but not interested enough to put money down. That is, if things chill out a bit around here.

Anyone wanna speculate when pre-orders will start on Switch 2 for those of us trapped in the U.S. ?

I can't wait to get the new system & enjoy some upgraded Breath of the Wild and the New Mario Kart World.. Donkey Kong and Kirby Air Riders etc etc..

I wish I knew, I want to have it secured.

I'm going to grab the Mario Kart Bundle and then grab Donkey Kong a month after it comes out, will probably grab the upgrade for Tears of the Kingdom.

Man, me and my son (9 years) are hyped. He keeps asking if I got a preorder locked in. Even the wife is excited, especially the Mario Kart. I’ll try and get that bundle and then I’m personally really happy with how Donkey Kong is looking - so I’ll grab that once it drops. My son is also looking forward to Kirby Air Ride. That Duskbloods…yes please! AND the GameCube games coming…I’m so ready for a fun summer with this thing.

Everybody is all worked up about only getting Gamecube Wind Waker through the online service and not a port of the remaster, but no one is clamoring for Paper Mario: Color Splash and Kirby: Rainbow Curse. Sad!

The Gamecube version of Wind Waker is practically trash compared to the HD version though tbh, fast sail is a necessary QOL at this point.

I would like to see the games you mentioned, Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD and Yoshi's Woolly World, all preferably upgraded to 4k with the exception of Kirby since that game requires a touchscreen, but it could be 1080p 120fps. I don't even want to know what they'd charge for those games, though

Pearl diamond remakes were lazy cashins. also wasn't it mostly outsourced?

Arceus didn't have paid dlc but it was also their sorta new spinoff series. It was a experimental success.

Lmao its a 7 yr old game there is no excuse period other than nickel n dime customers to not have a full complete release

If masterpieces like Witcher 3 and Red Dead 2 can get steep price cuts years after release then so should Zelda. This was a Switch 1 launch game, it has no business being more than $20 at this point. Nintendo used to have Nintendo Selects towards the end of a console gen. Now they are finding ways to raise the price of old ass games. Defending this practice ain't it. You can be a fan of Nintendo and still admit that they are a bit too greedy right now.

I was listening to a podcast that hit on that topic a bit. They were saying the reason Nintendo doesnt do deep sales is because they value their IP too much. Which they kinda have to when they put out sub par consoles (specs-wise). Nintendo knows we love their IP so they do what any business would do....profit.

They shouldn't pull a Ubisoft and discount their games by 75% after a month but I think they should have continued with the Nintendo Selects line and offered games like BOTW, Mario Odyssey, Fire Emblem Three Houses and a few others for $20 by now. This is a new level of greedy from Nintendo that we haven't seen before IMO. The Switch success has gone to their heads. I guess I'm part of the problem since I'm getting that Mario Kart bundle at launch, but I hope it doesn't do as well as Switch 1 out of the gate so that they have to at least drop the prices of the games.

Oh don't worry. I've made nothing but positive and complimentary excited posts about Nintendo for the previous ~9 months in the console threads and they only get ignored, shit on, or dismissed too. Nobody responds well to the positive posts either. People online in general are inherently negative, contrarian, or snide. Even if they agree with the spirit of what you say, they have to argue about it or tell you how they see things differently.

And let's face it, there has been no good news or major surprise announcements. Donkey Kong looks cool? I'm excited to play the NSW2 too but it's been all bad news during the previous two weeks. During the bigtime reveal period. Perhaps don't do announcements for announcements? Fans had been waiting for the April 2 Direct with bated breath for months. Now we're just sitting here waiting for additional upcharging. It has all been very deflating.
