American Express Card
I could be wrong but I think you need to be 18 to get a credit card.
Well I have a debit card with a visa logo, aka it can be used anywhere that takes visa and works just like a visa except it draws direcrtly from my bank account and I get denied if I don't have enough money in my account. Any way 2 get one like that?

A debit card with a visa logo is not a credit card. I think the only way to get a credit card at your age is to have a parent co-sign. You can try at a local credit union as they seem to be more lenient.

Do a google search for credit union with you zip code.

I seriously doubt you'd be aqble to get an American Experss bwing under 18. Visa & MC maybe, if it's a parents card and you are a card holder.

No. Only your bank gives you cards like that. They actually work more like an instant check without the paperwork than a credit card. It would be hard for a young person to get a major credit card. You need to have credit to get credit. Meaning start building your credit on something small. I started with a clothing store and a jewelry store. Limits of $200 and $300 respectively. Just make sure to pay them off monthly. Before you know it you'll have some good credit.

Credit sounds cool, but it can screw you later if you let it get bad. No house, high interest on car loans and just all around bad news. I've got a friend who used me as a reference and now they are calling me becuase they no longer have his contact info.

american express does offer the blue for students and within the terms and conditions it doesnt clearly state that you have to be 18 so you might want to call them and see, but being a minor i doubt it

American Express is a charge card, not a credit card. This means it has to be paid off every month. You need good credit to get one. I doubt you would get on on your own whn you turn 18. A co signer will probably be necessary. I got one when I was 20, but had been on my own for 2 years, and have a full time job.

I'd avoid AMEX if at all possible. It's pretty much a crap card, you have to pay the complete balance monthly, and typically have a high annual membership rate. Not to mention, due to AMEX's high percentage rates charged to retailers (4-5% vs 1-2% on Visa/Mcard), many places don't take American Express.

If you have a debit card, that's enough at 16, if you still think you need more.. convince your parents to get you a Visa or Mastercard account. Btw, its more than just them co-signing, they have to open a joint account with you.

A crap card!! Every place I shop takes it. They double the manufactures warrenty, and if you have a dsuspute with a purchase, they take car of it on the spot.

It used to be that noone took American Express, but that is changing. Personally, I like my Discover. 1% cash back baby.

I had American Express for a time being (basically before I had good enough credit to get a high limit Visa/Mcard).. they give you more trouble than good. I can tell you our corporation with 131 locations (all more or less independant on things like credit).. not a single one accepts AMEX right now. And if you need to use the credit company to dispute a problem, 9 times out of 10 you're either being a jerkwad, trying to rip someone off, or too lazy to take care of things the proper way.

That being said, to each their own, and if you're happy with American Express, more power to you.

I'd take the Chase PerfectCard (Mastercard)over the Discover. It is 1% cash back on all purchases and 3% for gasoline. Not as many places take Discover.

yeah, i have blue from american express, it's a good card and since i'm young (25) they could have given me a high APR, but they gave me a 11.99% APR!!! i was pretty shocked. also, the points system works with eb games, sothat means free stuff! i used 8,500 points and got morrowind GOTY (xbox) for free and used the left over points to knock the guide down to like 7 dollars.

You should tell them that your friend was killed or something, then they should stop calling you.

I'm thinking of just giving them the info, he's still got my scarface DVD that I let him borrow.
I also got mine when I was 20. I had no previous credit experience, no job, was still living with my parents, and they did not co-sign. Guess I slipped thru the cracks! ;)
