Any Co-Op RPG's for PS1 or PS2?

So my girlfriend and I have been playing Dynasty Warriors 4 on PS2 as a means of alleviating stress since the summer. And while it's been great fun and serious bonding time ("We musn't fall behind!"), we want to branch out into something new instead of getting Dynasty Warriors 5.

She's really big into RPG's, and I remembered Secret of Mana for the SNES. Are there any co-op RPG's for the PS1 and PS2? I suppose price isn't an issue so long as the game is worth it as her birthday is coming up.

We're not interested in the Baulder Gate/LoRT series.

I would discourage Shining Tears; I really didn't like it.

Are you totally ruling out games like Baldur's Gate, or just Baldur's in particular? My girlfriend was more into them than I was, and we played like all of them through together (Baldur's 1/2, Champions of Norrath, X-Men Legends. They really are good co-op. If you rule out those, you're quite literally left with nothing else -- as far as I can think of, anyway.

Or even Legend of Mana which has a somewhat accetpable co-op mode.

I suggested we don't play Baldur's 1/2, etc. is because the story-lines arn't as grandiose as Secret of Mana's. At least, that's what I've heard. If I'm wrong though then please do tell me.

Perhaps my memories of the Old School are unecessarily high? I was about 11 when I played Secret of Mana, so pretty much anything impressed the hell out of me. :wink:
 
After my wife and I played through Dynasty Warriors 4, everytime we got ready to go out one of us would say "Let us go as well."

I agree X-Men might be good choice. I played it on the X-Box with a couple friends and we loved it.
 
I know you already said you're resentful to pay these types of games, but I highly recommend:

Gauntlet Legends
Champions of Norrath 1/2
Baldur's Gate 1/2

And of course, the best co-op experience I've ever had is co-op on Halo. It'd be worth it to get an Xbox just for that. :D

I love Secret of Mana, too, so I feel you. Admittedly, Baldur's etc. don't have the same RPG-esque story. There, story is mostly to link all the environments and battles together, but I still recommend at least picking up a cheap copy of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and trying it out. A used copy can't be more than $12. If you guys end up liking it, it opens up a world of possibility.

By the way, one bad thing about X-Men Legends is that there are many parts where player two just picks their nose -- especially at the beginning. It doesn't start you with the ability to team up, and the mansion scenes are all one-player.
