Are dead pixels a problem with the ds?

I remember it was a problem during the launch.

I'd like to know if they ironed out that issue where new DSes (like the red/black Brain Age bundle ones) had darker screens.

Given the low pixel count of the screens, I bet that modern LCD manufacturing techniques result in very high yields on LCDs this size. Therefore I would expect that dead pixels on a DS would be pretty rare. Do they exist? I am sure, they do, but I would not buy a DS in fear that it has a dead pixel!

dead pixels will always be a problem with lcd screens. that said, on the off chance you do get a ds with one, nintendo will replace it.

My first DS which I got a few months after launch had a stuck pixel in the lower right hand part of the top screen. It sometimes got annoying, but I could deal with it.
My DS Lite which I got in January doesn't have any stuck or dead pixels.

I have had two phat DS's and one Lite. Not a single dead pixel. You can send it back if it really annoys you though if you do get a dead/stuck pixel.

QFT. In fact, due to the small screen size, I'd even argue that dead pixels are inexcusable on a DS. If someone tries to tell you that dead pixels are normal for LCD screens and tries to compare the DS to laptop/LCD monitors, you should call bullshit on that.
Here's a simple example. The DS has about 100k pixels. (256x192 per screen). A fairly modest LCD monitor (1280x1024) has about 1.3 million pixels. For the sake of argument, assume that a LCD manufacturer produces one bad pixel for every 1 million pixels. Every single one of their monitors will average 1.3 bad pixels. That's why they won't take returns on one, or a few bad pixels. Now compare that to the (small) DS screen. With the same yield numbers, the same LCD manufacturer would produce 9 good DS's for every one with a single dead pixel.

My launch DS Phat has a dead pixel near the top of the touch screen. You can't see it very clearly so I've never bothered to do anything about it. It was a gift (with no receipt) so I didn't really have an option to return it.

During launch, yes. My friend and her boyfriend returned five different phats because of dead pixels before they both got DS's without issues. It's been a fairly rare problem recently, though. Of the two DS Lites I've owned, neither has had dead pixels.

I had to return the first 2 original model systems I bought near launch due to dead/stuck pixels (both had 2-3). My second DS (Mario Kart bundle) was perfect, as was the DS lite I bought earlier this year.

So far I'm on my third ds lite in 3 weeks. The first ones touch screen wouldn't respond to my stylus's touches and the second ones left trigger wouldn't work(made it annoying to play JUS or check my eggs nature on pokemon). Right now I'm charging my third one. None of the ones before had dead pixels, let's hope this one doesn't either. I have bad luck so something will probobly be wrong :(~. Walmart hates me, haha.

I have a launch Phat DS that now has a Dead pixel in the bottom center of the screen. It is really annoying because it is bright red.

I had a friend that took his ds back to wal-mart once or twice (launch phat model) to get the dead pixels fixed, but other than that, they're an extremely rare occurance and I've never heard of them with the lite model.

my 1st phat had a dead pixel, returned to costco for another no problem.

of the 2 ds lites i have neither has had this problem.

I had one, sent it into Nintendo, and they fixed it in no time, now its perfect.

I hear the new problemw ith the screens is that there is a darker yellow tint on the bottom screen of the new ds lite. I just bought my Dad one for his bday (the BA2 pack) and it seemed fine to me.

Bottom line: If anything is wrong with it, Nintendo will fix it right up for you in under 2 weeks, for up to a year.

my black ds lite got a stuck pixel about 2 months ago, it had worked fine since launch. I was bummed, then a week ago i had the ds in sleep mode and i dropped it, when i opened it back up the stuck pixel was fixed! i was stoked and i'm still wondering how that worked.

We currently have 3 DS Lites and I had another one in the past. None of them have had stuck pixels. I think that these days stuck pixels are much less of a problem then they use to be.

Sometimes you can fix a stuck pixel by "massaging" the spot where the stuck pixel is. Perhaps hitting (dropping) it works too, but I wouldn't recommend that fix. :)

My DSlite gets a pixel on the touchscreen that gets stuck blue. It's no biggie unless the screen is a really dark color. It comes and goes. I don't want to be a downer too much, but it might crop up again, wheels.
