I'm not usually into this sort of thing but I have to say if that plugs into the GBA slot that its pretty fucking sweet. I wonder if this is coming to the US or not.

Damn, I miss Arkanoid, especially on the NES including the goody ass special controller with the roto nub. Damn I would buy this in a heartbeat if it was available here...

That is pretty cool. Hopefully they will tone down the difficulty though - I can barely make it to stage 3 on one quarter!

Let's be honest about this. We are all interested in this because of the special controller right? I sure wouldn't buy this if there was no add-on.

That's for sure becuase I already own about 10 copies of the game over various platforms.

Well that's because it controls like crap without the knob. But with the knob, it's a great game.

No. I simply love Arkanoid and similar clones. I bought Break 'em All the day it was released, is how dedicated I am. This sounds like a great import title, what with text being virtually non-existant.

This controller looks cool. However, I think the two screens on the DS makes it harder to track the ball since I always expect the ball to "disappear" whenever it crosses screens. Maybe they should make one where the ds is held sideways so I wouldn't have to deal with this problem :D *crosses fingers*

hmm, Arkanoid on NES with the paddle controller was pure Zen. I don't see this thing being sturdy enough in the GBA slot to hold up to intense gameplay. I mean it's gonna stick out of it and you have to put your hand on the knob.

Great idea, but it looks like a problem waiting to happen.

It's out tomorrow here in Japan!

Must fight temptation to buy....

The paddle will also work with the upcoming (and fucking AWESOME) Space Invaders Extreme.

I played it @ Games Japan Festa last month and it was SWEET!

now all they need to do is make an n64 or gamecube controller that fits into that slot then id be happy. or happier.

I really hope they bring this to the US. I like the idea, but I'm not sure it's a $50 worth of good idea. If it costs $30 in the US, I'll take it.

Oh, there is one thing that would make it $50 worth of good: Wireless and WiFi Warlords! I don't even need it to have the arcade version graphics. I'll take 2600 graphics!

I thought I heard news that they were going to redesign the DS to not include the GBA slot. Am I wrong?

I feel the same way.

I don't know about Arkanoid, but Japan-only Love and Berry, which came with a card reader that fit in the GBA slot, had an attachment that let you use it with either a lite or a phat.

It's a rumor. It may be true, given there are essentially no new GBA games anymore. It is bound to happen at some point.
a US version probably won't sell for $30 with the paddle.. probably $40. just spend the extra $10 and get it now
But Arkanoid is how old? I can wait a bit longer for a price drop, discount, or clearance. $50 for Arkanoid seems excessive to me, but I can understand if you've waited long enough.

Sweet.

Just found out about it on the net and noticed the CAG topic. I gotta gets it! I wish I had the NES version - well with the knob controller to replicate that arcade feel!!

just a quick update but I got to open this yesterday and holy shit is this pretty sweet. Though its pretty cool, I could see having pains for paying $50 for a version of Arkanoid. As for the game it self, the dead space isn't intrusive that much, its a little annoying but I started to get use to it. That spinner is really cool and seems pretty sturdy but you do get an odd feeling trying to play and balance it at the same time.

I can't say its worth $50 but I am glad that I do own it
Seems to be a reputable seller on ebay selling it for $47.00 shipped (EMS) If I had any money I would be pulling the trigger
those auctions do not include the paddle

I've been waiting to have the money to get this. The only dissapointment with a bundle would be you can't even pick the color you get then, could you?

Back in stock at Success-HK for $44.00 plus shipping, which is the cheapest option I've seen.

http://www.superufo.com/product_html/Nintendo_DS_Arkanoid_DS_w_White_Color_Paddle_Jap_version.html

If you're picky about the color of the paddle controller (the game comes bundled with a white controller), you can buy the paddle separately in black, pink, or silver at Success-HK for about $20 each plus shipping (search on "paddle").

You can then buy the game w/o the controller for $31.99 shipped from YesAsia. Buying them separately will cost you a few bucks more than the bundle, but that's the price the price you pay for being picky. ;)
Hell Yes:
US Release:
Space Invaders Extreme - June 10th
Arkanoid DS - July 1st
but you have to wonder if they are also bringing over the controller. After owning the import, I just can't see myself trying to play it with out it

Glad to see it's getting a US release, I was really tempted to import it. Here's to hoping they package it with the game, but if not hopefully there will be a sale at play-asia that includes the paddle accessory for maybe $15 to $20 shipped.

I'd be weary if purchasing from Success. I ordered the Arkanoid DS w/ paddle from them seeing as they were the cheapest price I could find. Later on, they told me that it was out of stock so they offered me a refund of the purchase price. BUT they didn't include shipping in the refund to me - as shipping from HK to USA is rich! So I asked about getting a refund on the shipping portion as well, and then they gave me an extra $4 besides the product price for shipping - but I kind of think my shipping on the game came to more than that...

One more thing that is not clearly stated until you get to checkout, Success charges an additional 3% service fee if paying with credit card or PayPal.

I'm just saying be careful.

this thing would be perfect with a air hockey game. I was playing air-hockey e on the GBA card reader and even though it was so simple it was addicting.
Well, according to Gamestop, Arkanoid DS will cost $19.99. I think that pretty much confirms that it isn't coming with the paddle.

http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product_id=180509

In some good news, Gamestop lists Space Invaders Extreme as also being $19.99. That beats the puss out of Play-Asia's $40 price tag for the import.
Definitely no paddle... Play-Asia is almost out (only had pink). NCSX still has some paddle controllers, I broke down and bought one last night. I'm hoping/assuming the paddle controller code will still be in the US release.. (although I could see them removing it out of spite for how poorly the Japanese version sold, try to recoup costs via people importing) $45ish is probably too much for Arkanoid, but paying $65ish to get the import of the game +paddle would be even worse. ;)

(Edit: whoops, just checked, they're out of black but have silver/pink/white still, and it says they'll restock black in a week)

I hope they keep support for the paddle controller in. It wouldn't be as good as a stylus for air-hockey, though. You can't push forward with a rotary controller. Really the applications for a rotary controller are pretty limited, but I'd love to see a Tempest/Tempest 2000 port with rotary controller support and local and internet WiFi play Warlords as a bonus game. :)

So NCSX hasn't seemed to restock them, and play-asia has been saying "out of stock/out of print" for ages, so I decided just to secure two through yesasia.

It said "Usually ships within 7 - 14 days," so here is hoping they do have them.
I hope they keep support for the paddle controller in.
From one site(Wired?) SE confirmed that paddle support will be left in, but they are not going to release the controller over here.

And the same article brings up a good point; why doesn't SE just get some and sell them through their online store? They have exclusive figures, jewelry, and a FF11 soundtrack box set last I looked... Online stores like that are good for items you don't think would warrant a full production shipped to all retailers.
