So, I just took out the ol dusty ps3 from my storage that I last used when Uncharted 3 came out. Needless to say, its been a long long while.

That being said, tried booting it today and it seems the hard drive is shot. I am wondering if its possible to boot a ps3 from an external. Just bought the last of us, blah blah blah, cause it seems like an awesome game.

Have a few spare externals laying around - dont want to buy a new internal if I dont have to just to play TLO.

Thanks fellas.

No, it's not possible to boot a PS3 from an external drive.

Sorry, you'll need to find a replacement internal if that is really your hardware failure.

I dont think it will the boot drive is deficated to the internal one. Plus the usb port of ps3 are usb 2.0 only which is to slow. External harddrives are used in ps3 to transfer and open files and load firmwares.

the WD Blue series seems to be the go to choice for PS3 replacements.

I had the one you linked in my old fat PS3 until it died (the PS3, not the HDD)

Best of luck!
