Can someone explain "Stay" to me?

I saw the movie Stay with Ryan Gosling and Naomi Watts and Ewan or whatever his name is...
I liked the story, at least what I got of it, but I only saw it once, and I didn't get it all put together... Could anyone explain this to me?

(sorry i put this is the wrong forum... all apologies)
 
Gosling wrecks his car & kills himself, his gf, & parents. As he is dying he imagines everyone in the car and some folks at the scene in an alternate life while he dies.


IMO, the movie tried to be something "profound" but it just wasn't. Watch 21 Grams instead: similar genre but better movie plus Watts is naked.
 
Stay was such a pretentious movie. There were so many red herrings that I thought I was at a fish market. Try watching November (Courtney Cox) instead, much better movie.
