Since the PS3 version can be downloaded and played on a PSP doesn't it mean that it's the unaltered PS1 version? Wasn't the resolution increased for the 360 version? Doesn't that mean that the 360 version is the better of the two?

unless you want to play it on your PSP, then yes, the 360 version is a better value since you get leaderboards and e-penis points (though it's the same game.)

The 360 version has some minor tweaks, fixed sound bugs, and a few incomprehensible translation errors, or something like that. It's also in 5.1 surround,... but not sure if the PSN one is.

I really hate letterboxed games,.... so even though I bought the XBox version, I may pick up the PSN one just to play in the full width of my bigscreens,... if, the PSN version is full screen.

It's gonna rock when Konami releases the DS versions in a Wii bundle, so people can battle it out online, then trade mats/souls/etc.... ala Phantom Dust!!!!

Avoid the 360 one at all costs. At least for me, I don't like playing 2D games with an analog stick, and the dpad on the 360 controller is so awful that playing it is like beating your face into the ground.

I'd highly recommend getting it on the PS3 is you have the option. I don't like the DualShock design, but the Dpad is in the right place on that controller for a game like this.

Buying SotN for the 360 is probably my biggest (only?) microtransaction regret.

PSX. By far the best version. I assume it's playable on the PS3. If the PS3 downloadable version is an exact replica, I'd get that. Unless you like nerdpoints and altered resolutions.

The 360 version by far is the better of the two. The achievements and minor tweaks are well worth it. The game controls fine IMO.

360:
Pros - marginally improved graphics, achievements, letterboxed
Cons - 360 D-pad stinks for the game, improvements are marginal at best.

PS3/PSP:
Pros - unaltered version of PSX original (for purists), playable on the home console and portable one, with the ability to transfer save files b/w the two.
Cons - are the load times the same as the PSX disc?; no improvements that 360 has.

If portable SOTN means that much to you, wait until Dracula X Chronicles comes out. If that doesn't matter, both of them are similar enough, IMO. You can't go wrong with either, though the d-pad for the PS3 is better suited for the game.

Personally, though, I wouldn't reward Sony for being slow as molasses in putting out downloadable PSX games on the PSN. We have 12-13 games total compared to Japan who has 50-70. Theirs are all priced at 600 Yen, and SOTN sets a new pricepoint at $10, which is not the direction I want to see the PSN go. That's my crabby side-point, though. They can start charging $10 for a PSX game when it starts looking like they put some effort into the PSN store. In the meantime, they ought to be ashamed of themselves.

I have both the Japanese and domestic versions for the PS1. Sounds like I should just stick with them.

Is Dracula X Chronicles the portable game I heard about that has several Castlevania games including Symphony? Is it for the PSP or DS?

Dracula X Chronicles is for PSP, and includes both the original version and a remake of Dracula X: Rondo of Blood (which, despite being considered by many to be the best Castlevania game, has never properly been released in the US), and an enhanced version ofSymphony of the Night, with new voiceovers, and in 16:9 for the PSP's wide screen.

There won't be load times on the PSN version as it'll be running off of the HDD and/or memory stick (or if there are, it'll be a flash of a "loading" screen that used to take a while but now is gone in an instant).

Overall, I'd go with the suggestion of waiting to nab the PSP remake of Rondo with SotN included. That's what I'm planning to do (though the download would be tempting if Sony would allow you to buy PS1 games without a PS3).
If you don't have a PSP get the 360 version. If you have one, just wait for Dracula X Chronicles as it will have a 3d Version and upgraded of the same game.
Is SotN getting the 3D treatment too? I thought that it was just Rondo getting it and that the sprite versions of Rondo and SotN were unlockables.

When's that coming out, anyway?

I haven't played it but from what I've read the Japanese only Saturn release is the best version. Not surprising since the Saturn was the platform of choice for 2D gaming during the 32-bit era. It's too bad the Saturn version came out so much later than the PS version or I would have bought that version instead.

The PSN one has the original cutscenes. Which actually seem important when playing on the 360 version because you miss them and are like 'what the heck?'

SotN is just a port of the PSOne in Chronicles

The saturn version has a couple extras that were never authorized by the original producers. I can only remember two, which are when you play richter he's in the blue outfit he wears in the Kojima art for Symphony instead of the blue karate suit thing from dracula x, and there's a spear added that looks like eric lecarde's. However, the saturn version by far had the worst load times as it was said that it took around 10 seconds just to get to the pause menu or pull up the map.

oddly, the Saturn version had more stuff, but was alot worse. It had too many problems.

I was under the impression there would be some new content for it. But I could just be getting that confused with something else.

It will have a new translation and new voice acting. As for graphics and content, I dunno. I'll have to check.

The SOTN on Dracula X Chronicles is based of the Japanese version of SOTN for PS1 + extras... redone voices and new text....

*pops it in the PSP* :p

Oh and I reccommend the PS3 version over the 360... just cuz I think the PS1 version is the best version available RIGHT NOW.... achievements are cool though. :)

Eh? It's be available on the 360 for a while now.

Actually IGA did said he wanted Maria in SotN but he ran out of time.

The Saturn SOTN is like the PS2 version of RE4. Its got some more content, but worse graphics and load times.

360, PS3, or the PS1 disc version, it doesnt really matter. Symphony of the Night is one of the best videogames ever made. Just get it and enjoy!

But really, the PSP version of SOTN on DXC will have some stuff that fanboys will go gaga over... so if you're a big fan... you'll be pleased...
