Ok, so a long time ago I had FEAR on my PC and it ran just fine. I traded it away though, and between then and now my computer has been reformatted a couple of times.

So anyways, yesterday I re-buy FEAR and buy Extraction Point as part of the Best Buy thing, but when I try to install FEAR it won't work. It gets past the first disc, but then on the second disc when it's partway through, a message will come up that says: "The wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume Disk1 into drive D:."

So I put in Disc 1 and the FEAR installation just quits by itself. I have tried a few times and it still does the same thing.

Anyone know why it is doing this? Might Disc 2 have something wrong with it? And why does the message spell Disc with a "k"?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

make sure fear is completely fully uninstalled. there might be some files still lingering from the partial install making it act weird. other than that, I don't know man, that is pretty odd. Make sure you have all windows updates and all programs are closed while running the install. Good luck

It does sound like the disc is messed up... since there's no reason for the installation to be doing that. As for why they spell "Disc" with a "k"... Sierra is stuck in the early 90's when they mattered.

I'd say that there may be some files hanging around as well, but it honestly sounds to me like they may have given you a copy with the wrong disc # pressed (like duplicate disc 1's or something). I got the DVD version from a Sam Goody clearance (for around $8 a year ago :) ), so I don't know how many CD's come with the RE..

If there are like 4 discs or something with the game, I'd say keep putting in different disc #'s until it accepts it. If it doesn't accept it, there's a chance that there are some lingering files. Have you checked for Starforce on your PC? It also could be messing with your optical drive.

All in all, if nothing works, I'd call customer service or return the game to the store. If it's spouting out an error like that, but is getting through disc 1.. I think they may have given you an incorrect or faulty disc for disc 2. If it's getting through disc 1, it shouldn't be your drive.

As for the disc with a k.. I think the jury is still out on that one.. it's like the spelling with a c appeared, but intuition will often lead people to spell it with a k. I've seen spell checkers on different programs often flag it in different ways :)
