I know it's been discussed, but I want a direct response to this. I'm about to get a PS3 this weekend if I can find a 60gb in my sony style store, and FF XII will be the only game I play on the ps3 for the next few months (and maybe unreal 3 if it's better on the ps3 over the 360).

Does Final Fantasy XII upscaled look a lot better on the ps3 than it does on the ps2? I only got 2-3 hours into the game playing it on the ps2 because my ps2 is bad at reading discs and also because the lack of progressive scan made me stop playing it. The game just didn't look good. I saw some of the pictures in the before and after thread (http://cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138995), but the pictures were bad quality and I couldn't tell much of a difference.

Thanks for answering if you do.
It looks very good, but not as good as those rumored 1080p pics from many months back.
Yeah, I saw those. I know that I shouldn't expect it to look like that.

But the main thing was the jaggies. There were too many of them and it made the game look like shit.

Is the game less jaggy when upscaled? I will be upscaling to 1080i.
Somewhat less jaggy. It's a noticeable improvement at the best (and least). Sorry to be so vague.

What kind of TV do you own?
A JVC 30" widescreen CRT. Upconverts all signals to 1080i.

It looks fantastic. I'm running my PS3 via HDMI to a 32" LCD. I can say without a doubt that FFXII looks excellent on PS3 after the latest 2 updates. The jaggies are almost totally gone and the color is more vibrant.

Ok, I just got a ps3 (which I'm going to return tomorrow because there's scratches on the top of it), but FF XII looks like shit still. Somewhat worse than how it looked on my ps2.

Since the firmware is older, will it look better after I upgrade to the latest firmware?

Yes you need the new firmware to upscale it at all. Under your settings you will notice a new option called Playstation Upscaling or something like that. For my FF12 I leave smoothing ON and upscaling to FULL (If you play any PS2 games that do not support widescreen, then you need to change this to NORMAL sometimes). Also make sure you toggle the in-game settings to Widescreen and also turn Flicker Filter (might be called something else) to OFF.

My own experience with a 52" 1080P DLP is that it looks MUCH better than a PS2. Before I got my PS3 I used to hook my PS2 up via component and even the CG scenes were pixellated for some reason. Now with the PS3 (hooked up via HDMI), the CG once again look 95% like how they used to look on my old 32" CRT.

it looks alright upscaled. I bought a ps3 solely because of those previously posted ffxii pics too but it turns out that it was just devkit mischief. Ps1 games look the best upscaled. Especially 2d games like Lunar 1 and 2. Yes. I'm playing ten year old Lunar on my 500 dollar system. Goddamn you Sony and your devkit trickery!!!! I was going to buy heavenly sword but after the reviews it looks like GT5 will be my first REAL ps3 game.

It looks good to me... though I've never played it on ps2. The graphics are good with FFXII so there's no real displeaure experience by playing this ps2 game... definitely doesn't feel outdated.

It looks worse on my PS3 set than it did on the PS2.

Just not as crisp, somehow. Even with the smoothing turned off. Same television used. Not sure what the issue is.

Edited because I'm half asleep right now.

You can look forward to UT3 being better on PS3, mostly because it's coming a lot sooner, and has keyboard/mouse and mod support.
