Fry's Electronics question

So, 3 days after bioshock came out, it was my birthday. I went to fry's, and bought it for myself (with cash). I went home, and my brother greeted me with.... a copy of bioshock for my B-day.

I kept the Fry's copy, and was gonna sell it on craigslist or whatnot, but never got aroudn to it. About last week, I finally decided to just return bioshock, but couldn't find my receipt. I went to the store, and explained I purchased it with cash, and couldn't find my reciept. The game was still unopened, and apparently still in their return policy. The guy just scanned the game, and gave me store credit of $60.

Since that was so easy, it got me wondering... couldn't people buy games at say, Target (the COD4/Orangebox/Skate) for $48, and return it to Frys for store credit? Would this work?

Sorry. Had no idea it was that bad... and for the record, when I DID do it, it was legal because I ACUTALLY bought the thing from fry's.
