I notice young kids say they "Flipped" a game, when they beat it. I doubt most were around when scores 'flipped' at a certain score; 99,999 for example. Hell, I was too young to flip most games.

Is there any other game slang you've heard?
also some of the youngins are using "bad" to mean "good"...haven't confirmed this...yet

Turtling is one, but that just applies to fighting games.

 interesting...I would like some confirmation on this
i've read some articles on MMORPG's they talk about "nerfing" certain characters. still don't know what that means.
To nerf a character or item means to make them weaker. It comes from Nerf products (the footballs and the like) which are reproducts of items made out of soft foam so they'll be less dangerous. Nerfing something, therefore, means to make it safer. If, for instance, Everquest was to make a sword weaker (because it was doing too much damage against monsters), they would be said to 'nerfing' the sword because they made it safer and less dangerous.

Don't forget Cheese or Cheesy when someone uses the same combo over & over again or just being cheap overall. :D

Yeah, I forgot about that.

Ticking is another one. I think that is like throwing repeated fireballs to lessen someones health as they block. I really don't remember though.

Yeah I made a pact with myself a few years back that I would not utter any "leet speak" or no snoop dog "Izzy for cheesy" or " Word up dog, homeslice (do people even say homeslice?)" or "DUDE!" or "chat room LOL! ROLF WTF LMBMF" or any other half assed butchering of the english language..that pact has burned like the zeplin blimp, i've cought myself plenty of times talking "leet speak" when i'm playing online, and have grown very fawned of dude, sweet, and freakin' sweet, don't get my started on the chat room talk (Lol! even though I still don't understand half of the acronyms). :: sigh :: BUT I WILL NEVER! EVER FOR CHEESY MY NEEZY! DAMNEEZY!

I've always hated when people refer to beating a game "Mastering" it or "Conquering" it. WTF is that all about?

You beat the damn game. You didn't master or conquer it. It's not like your an ancient warlord bent on the destruction of rival nomads!

One can dream..

There's the ever present "camping" when a player sits in a single spot which gives them a much greater strategic advance than the other players and then stays there as long as he or she can to rack up kills/annoy other players. The spot is one in which it is very difficult, or nearly possible to dislodge them without several deaths, or the help of other players.

Turtling can also be for RTS games when your opponent sits in his base and builds lots of defense.

For those that haven't heard it, "Flipping" a game means to have beaten it.

In the old days when there were scores attached to games, once you would reach a certain score, you'd go back to zero, hence you 'flipped' the game.
(Programmers had severe memory restictions and have to save a few bytes here or there).

We used to call gaming 'flapping' because there was an arcade nearby called "the Flipper Flapper" (After pinball, I guess). You'd go down there to 'flap'...

don't tell me you used to play pinball back when they paid out. my dad told me how he partially funded his education playing nickel pinball games that would pay out after a certain score. = OLLLLLLLD School.

Real McCoys is the what we called people who would challenge us in Street Fighter 2 (arcade). They would come in comparing fireball to block ratios and percentages and crap...we would hand them their ass, and they would tell us how cheap we were. It must be tough to get owned (that means beat nowadays) up close and personal by a 13 year old. I'm glad I can't see the 8 year old that kicks my ass on Halo2 regularly.

An opponent being "cheap" is a weak excuse for someone turtling in a fighting game. In video games being cheap is bad, but in real life being cheap is "bad", meaning good, as well. So confusing... :)

I don't know a lot of generic slang, but lots of genres have their own slang words

E.g RTS:

walling
booming
rushing
raxing (WC2 specific)

etc etc

Well, in fighting games a lot of people whine simply because they got their ass whipped. Turtling can be beaten.

Note* I didn't realize it was an RTS term also. Good to know though.

I'm old enough to remember pinball, but not old enough to have seen that.

I would have payed my payed through college with Madden '96.
so then whats a nerf hearder
1. A Nerf is a livestock creature in the Star Wars universe.

2. A Nerf Herder is one who herds the Nerfs in the Star Wars Universe.

3. A deragatory term used to put down someone in the Star Wars Universe, as a Nerf Herder is one of the lower classes of people.

4. A band from California.

A'greed, another one that irks me is "solving" a game.

Here's a bunch usually associated with MMORPGs:

powerlevel - forsake all other aspects of a game in order to power up (level up) a character

MOB - old MUD term, might be based on "mobile" or "Mobile OBject", basically it's a monster or enemy

KOS - Kill On Sight

ninja looting - grabbing the treasure or money from chests and dead monsters while the person who did all the work (ie killed the monsters) is otherwise occupied (likely killing more monsters)

buff - spell or other augmentation that increases a skill or stat

tank - absorb damage from attackers so that others (with less health/defense) can survive longer

gimp - character with skills that are not up to par, usually the result of poor choices during character creation or building (also used as a verb)

zone - cross from one area into another, usually involves a short period of loading

Finally, if I were to say "I'm gonna make you my bitch!" it means "I am going to transform you into former CAG mainstay poster Quackzilla."

That'll bring him out of hiding.

How about people that "Win" the games.

Example: I beat the boss and won the game.

HAHA, I remember the "solved" thing from that thread before asking what people thought when they finished a game.
