GBA Movie player?

NesHavok

CAGiversary!
So I just saw that there is a way to watch movies on your Gba, Probably old news right? But... I just got a gba and I'm getting up - to - date with my gameboy...
My Q: Is the Movie player worth having or buying? Is it sold legally or by a real commercial company? Does it work...Well? Do you need a special instrument on your pc to load games into it?

I know very little, but Nintendo made the "play-sal" or something like that that plays MP3s (songs) and MP4s (videos). It is rumoured to come out with the GB Micro in the fall, but no offical price or info has been made.

Yeah, I have one, but I don't use it for anything other than playing old nintendo games. I'm actually thinking of selling it to get a flash cart instead.

I have one too, it works pretty well and being able to play old nes games is sweet, I use mine everyday as a portable music player. But it will only play nes games smaller than 256k and you cant save, because it loads the games in to memory. Here is the official site, its pretty bullshit but there are links to forums and whatnot

for $25 it's a great deal. you need a compactflash card and a compactflash card reader for your computer. you can dl the software it requires for free.

Actually, with http://home.comcast.net/~alanweiss3/dwedit/files/pocketnes_compy.zip, you can play bigger nes games. The only games unplayable are Startropics 1 and 2, Kirby's adventure, mario 3, and dragon warrior 3 and 4.

It also allows a save function, where you remove the movie player, insert a game with SRAM, then write to that game.

I wouldn't buy one yet. They are coming out with version 3 soon, which will have DS capabilities.

If you want to play movies on your GBA and some NES games, get a supercard for about the same price as the movie player. Thanks to built-in emulators, it plays NES games, Gamegear games...as well as GBA roms (try to stay legal pls), and playing movies/mp3s (not that I have used the movie functionality).

Some of them aren't DS compatible because the plastic cartridge is wrongly sized -I bought the kind that works in the DS (not that I have one yet, but my other 2 buddies do).

I use it for NES emulation. Dragon Warrior IV on GBA rules :D

Here's the new SD version which doesn't stick out like the CF version but is more expensive:

As a GBA rom flash cart it honestly isn't that great....but as I buy games and not pirate them, I don't really care. I just like the NES emulation.

It uses Pocketnes for GBA as the emulator, check Pocketnes compatibility list if there is a game you are curious about.

Wow I've Been away for a few days and Look at all the replies I got, Woot!!! Thanks Alot!!

And thanks for all the links, I think I won't have any trouble reasearching this topic anymore.

i bought the movie player and tried to convert an episode of anime to watch, but it took FOREVER to convert it to the movie player's standards. any tips on how to remedy this situation? i stopped the converting process after about 15 minutes b/c it wasn't moving at all. i think it took 30 minutes to convert the suikoden 3 opening which is only a few minutes long  i haven't touched it since which is a waste of $30 :(

Yeah, it does take forever to convert. I tried converting a DVD once and got nowhere. I think your best bet is to just leave it on overnight and let it do all the work while you sleep. I'm actually going to keep mine though, since downloading that pocketnes_compy, I'm able to play so many games and like GreenMonkey said, I'm not really interested in playing GBA games on it since I just buy those.

To fully charge the battery after you have drained them to the point of the gba not being able to stay on for 10 seconds is 2 hours and 30 minutes for me. I timed it.....i got my gba sp a couple weeks ago so i was curious about the battery life:D. you are talking about a gba sp, not gba original right? I also tested how long the batteries lasted. Fully charged it lasted 9 hours and 20 minutes with the backlight on and sound on full. ya, a few hours a waaaaaay to short for battery life. It should last for a solid 9 hours. My gba sp is great:)

thanks for the reply encendido5. i'm really disappointed in the product. i thought i would be able to just copy and paste the files into the memory card, but using that converting software takes too much time. even if i were able to put up with the computer being on all night, it really limits my options if i just want to put something on there really quickly and skip out the door. ah well, i guess i'll be adding this to my tradelist soon... either that or it's going to ebay :(

Here's some tips on speeding up the conversion process:

Close all other open programs
Get rid of all the spyware on your PC that you probably don't know is there.
If you're letting it sit for a while, disable your screensaver and just turn your monitor off.
If you run any 3rd party or poorly written programs (Like KaZaA), restart the computer before you convert.

Hope that helps a little.

You can go ahead and buy the card w/o worrying about V3, it will only be sold in China. Speculated reasoning is: "because with M3 you can play games. no limit."
