Guitar Hero World Tour Drums vastly Superior to Rockband 2 Drums.

First off I'd like to state that I prefer Rockband as a game over Guitar Hero for the aesthetic & DLC etc.

However after testing out the Gutiar Hero World Tour Drums, it really puts the Rockband 2 Drums to shame. The drum-head material is far superior (soft silicone), ultra quiet, and provides better bounce. It's a real shame that Harmonix didn't look into improving the actual drum head material.

As for the Cymbals on guitar hero, they're more like the RB drums and a harder material which kind of sucks. I think my biggest disappointment is that the arrangements for the 2 kits is different so I won't be able to use the guitar hero drums on rockband 2 effectively.

Just thought I'd throw this out there since I couldn't seem to find the info anywhere else directly comparing the 2 drum-sets.

The main difference is that the yellow note is a cymbal instead of a pad. Granted I could see how that would throw off one's RB game... but at least yellow is still in between the red and blue, so it's better than nothing I suppose!

Also I have very little experience playing RB with drums, so I suppose I'd have an easier time adjusting to the different layout than someone who's spent a good amount of time with the previous drumkit.

From what I can tell (and I'm too lazy to look it up), I'm pretty sure the color sequence for Guitar Hero drums are rearranged to match the guitar's color sequence.

Well here is a picture comparison.

Also keep in mind that the in-game drum charts in GHWT use a color layout that is similar to RB. It goes red/yellow/blue/orange/green... so even going by GHWT's gameplay you are sort of meant to think of yellow as being "between" red and blue. In these youtube videos you can see the drum layout for both games:

Livin' On A Prayer GHWT (drums in the middle): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukzNW4phMNo

looks like they should line up fine. my plan was to get the GH:WT band set, and then RB2 disc only .. like the OP i like the DLC and what not for Rock Band.

How sturdy is the kit itself, though? I've read early comments stating the GHWT drum stand was flimsy and would actually shake or move during rigorous play.

Great post BU. It looks like it will work fine since the yellow symbol on the GHWT set would be the same as the yellow drum pad on the RB set.

I'm still not sure what I am going to do. I don't have RB1 or any GH games for 360 so I am going to be starting from scratch. That being said, I have played RB quite a few times at a friends house and I prefer it over the GH games (which I have for PS2).

But playing the drums is the primary reason I am going to get one of these games and if one set it better than the other, that is the version of hardware I am going to get. I guess I'll wait until more reviews come in that discuss the pros and cons of both sets.

I hadn't heard of the stability issues with GHWT that WhipSmart mentioned either, but I haven't been reading about this stuff much recently either.

I'm curious to how the cymbals will hold up after time. How's the durability of them? From the pics I'm worried that after a few months of hard drumming they'll snap off.
the ghwt drums will work with RB2 correct?

if so i'm totally getting those.
Definitely on 360. I'm not sure how it is on the other consoles.

All instruments are compatible with all games (including the disgusting Rock Revolution drum kit) on PS3 and 360.

Whipsmart, the only thing that has me raising an eyebrow is that the kickpedal doesn't connect to the kit on the Guitar Hero set. Everything else should be stable, though.

You and me both. I'm a drummer anyways and am currently in a band. This game looks fun, but I'd hate to have to order new parts to my fake drum kit when I could spend time and money fine-tuning my real kit.

The real question: what about songs that use double-bass drumming?

you know, when playing I didn't feel the stand was flimsy at all and the overall build quality was pretty solid. They didn't have the pedal there though so who knows how that'll go.

I really wish they put thick silicone padding on the cymbals as well because THOSE do make the thunking sound that the Rockband drums make. However the difference in the drumheads is night and day. I'm starting to wonder if anyone offers a thick silicone cover for the rockband drums.

I'm sure it'll be compatible but it'll be weird to have the yellow elevated to a cymbal.

A big thing I've been wondering about is: Are the cymbals on the GH:WT drum kit adjustable? They look to be in a weird position to me, and that would bug me if I couldn't change them around.

Another question: Where do you play the ride cymbal? I would hope it would go on the same line as the crash cymbal... I'd love to play it elevated as well, but I haven't seen any examples of a GH:WT gameplay song with a ride cymbal AND how the guy is playing it.

Since GH:WT is smart enough to lose a pad when the RB drums are hooked up to it, I hope that RB is similarly smart enough to map out the ride/crash cymbals on the GH:WT drum kit. That would be a $$$$ling little problem that would cause me to get both. And I'd have to import them both to Japan, which will cost an arm and a leg. (I have the RB1 drums, but seriously need an upgrade).

On a side note, if GH:WT is region-free for the 360, I might just have to buy it for (my Japanese) 360 and RB2 for my PS3, which has a crapton of DLC already on it. Ooooh I hope it's region-locked, to save me the money.
