So a few weeks ago I remember tearing the filter of a Frost in half and discovering a small round blue peice of plastic embedded in the filter fibers. I thought it was strange... actually... it was a strange Truman show kind of a moment for me. As a kid I always thought my life was secretely under surveillance or something so I instantly thought: tracking device... strange innit?

Anyway, I'm not much of a smoker but these youth-targeted brands caught my eye so I gave it a try... and forgot about it until today. I did some research. Apparently I'm not the only one to have discovered these round blue balls. Someone contacted RJ Reynolds about it... here's what they said.

Hi Justin,

Since you have confirmed that you are a legal-age consumer of tobacco products,
we are glad to answer your question.

One of the flavors used to create the unique smoking experience of Camel
Signature Frost is so delicate or aromatic that it would be lost or destroyed
if placed on the tobacco. To protect the flavor, it is bound in a small flavor
pellet and placed in the filter.

Other than adding flavor, the pellet doesn't affect the smoke delivery.
Pellets are placed in the filters in a way to assure they don't move, fall out
or be drawn out during smoking.

We appreciate your taking the time to contact us and hope this information is
helpful.

Yet... I say their response is bullshit. One guy took the pellet out and said the ciggarette tastes exactly the same. Another guys confirms chewing up the plastic and tasting nothing whatsoever. I admit.. I also tried chewing it and felt nothing... Yet another guy claims that not every single Frost ciggarette contains this plastic, which further refutes the flavor argument that RJ proposed...

Weird, huh?

I don't smoke but maybe the pellet only reacts with heat. So that the only way you would get the flavor. It would creep me out to find anything thats not supposed to be there. Especially in something you consume.

Damn man did you do that? It is NICE! :D

Graystone: Quite possible, yet... the guys on that other link I posted say the cig tastes the same without the pellet. Also, some say that not every single cig has the pellet in it... yet they taste the same... hmm..

Doesn't the signature have 4 different flavors too? I only smoke the occasional cigar, but that pellet thing sure is interesting.

Yes, there are 4. They are: Frost, Mellow, Infused, and Robust.

I've only tried Frost... it wasn't bad really. It's a menthol smoke but not the usually minty menthol flavor. Instead it tastes almost like spearamint.

I'm in Ukraine now and they have these strange Marlboro "Filter Plus" ciggarettes. Basically, there is a divide in the filter where extra tobacco is placed. This tobacco obviously isn't smoked, instead it's placed there for the purpose of flavor... although I can't tell the difference. I don't smoke very often so I plan on bringing them back to the states with me and giving them to friends..

"By the end of the decade, polymer pellet technology, or PPT, had been perfected and patents filed. The technology took flavor enhancement to a new level. In 2000, the Camel brand went "exotic" with blue flavor-delivering pellets embedded in fruity cigarettes called Twist, Mandarin Mint and Aegean Spice.10 This pellet technology was further reinforced by new media public relations tactics. As noted by Harvard public health expert Greg Connolly, "....the packaging and imagery of flavored products serve as a powerful new source of promotion and advertising, particularly when coupled with tailored advertising and marketing found on interactive web sites (such as Camel Smokes and Salem Access) that further capitalize on product novelty."

i have to wonder if that plastic pellet isnt supposed to do the same thing the fiberglass in chewing tobacco does. it could be you inhale the plastic and it helps the nicotine get into your system quicker but i dunno since i really dotn smoke. hell to be honest i dont see how anyoen could considering all the shit they put in cigs but then again its not like cigs are the only suspect thing in america. additives in food, floride in water nothing really is healthy or safe anymore unless you make it yourself.
Anyone else see the irony of a user named Phrostbyte complaining about Signature Frost cigarettes?
I didn't even notice.

Sorry to bring up an old post but I want to chime in.

Camel Frost have the pellets in every cigarette. They are kinda like the new Camel Crush. They have the pellets that when you smash it it releases menthol flavor. The frost and infused are just the same except you don't have to crush the pellet. They are completely fine and don't hurt you anymore then a normal cigarette does. If you didn't like the pellet you should buy some Kent's or certain Lucky Strikes and break the filters open. They have charcoal in the filter. Ask many any question about cigarettes if you have any and I will try and answer them to the best of my ability.

P.S. I work for Philip Morris, who make Marlboro. Also I wouldn't recommend chewing on these pellets.

I've got a good question, how are the cheap brand of ciggs actually made? I tried a 305 menthal once and it was just plain horrible and gave me a headache (i smoke marlboro menthals). Someone told me they use all of the old scraps to make those?

Sorry to threadcrap but that is NOT irony. When something is ironic, it's the last thing you'd expect. So if his name was like 'Lavaman23' and he posted it, then it could be considered ironic.

Yea the cheaper ones are most of the time made with returned from warehouse/stores or returned from factory cigarettes. They just run them through a line which breaks up all the different brands and then mixes all those brands together. All menthol is ran together and all regular types are ran together. They do not use reused tobacco in the premium brands ie Marlboro.

The machines break them up and get out the tobacco and gets the tobacco dust out. They take the dust and flatten it out and dry it. Then they cut it up and make filler for the cheaper brands of cigarettes. I can only speak of Philip Morris. From what I hear RJR does not reuse old tobacco and does not use the scrap dust either in the brands.

Theres a million and 1 negative side effects to smoking and a little plastic bead in the cigarette is the one that you're most worried about?

guy1: cigarettes contain many hazardous chemicals
you: ok
guy1: they cause cancer, emphysema, and many other conditions
you: ok
guy1: they have a little plastic bead in it for flavor
you: A PLASTIC BEAD? WTF, I'M NOT SMOKING THAT

This and this. Why do people have such a hard time understanding irony? And lol at the pellet making you worried about smoking. I'll never understand why people smoke.
