How accurate is GameStop.com's store locator deal?

My question is because I found a store that seems to be indicating that they have a copy of Rez, but when I called in, the guy checked, and said that they didn't have a copy.

Usually, when I look on there for rare games, I tend to find them, but this time... and the thing is, it must have popped on there in the last day or so, since i check it often.

on the website it says that the numbers are accurate as of closing the previous night. its possible that it was sold today, or it could be on hold for someone else
i see, i see...

if it's still posting as there tomorrow, looks like I'm taking a little trip!
It is probably in the employee hold drawer, and it will stay in the computer until the employee buys it.

I may be in the minority on this, but if you are close to enough to the GS i say just go see for yourself. If you can't find it when you are there, then ask someone.

Depends upon a myriad of factors, unfortunately. Sometimes it's simply that the games were sold sometime during the day before you called since they update the stock nightly. Other times you can mention to someone working at the store that the locator says they have a particular game in stock only to have them tell you that it isn't there since they just grabbed it for themselves. It's usually up to chance.

If the store is nearby, though, I say check it out regardless. The worst thing that can happen is that they don't have it and then you're out a few minutes and a minor amount of gas. I've had plenty of problems since a few of the ones I went to said that they had RayStorm in stock but it was based off of a sticker on a Used PS1 case that was just being reused for some random junk game. Shame, that. Thankfully it doesn't happen as often now.

Besides, more often than not I tend to find another great title or hidden gem whenever I run on over anyway, so it pays to look around. Take your time, dig through the crap...sometimes you can find a miracle in a pile that nobody but the people working there would ever want to look through. (ie: Darius Gaiden for $2.99)

Yep, a lot of the rare games you'll see as in stock are actually stuck in the employee drawers at GameStop. So they might have that copy of Rez, but chances are an employee has already put a hold on it because he/she plans on buying it. A lot of times employees will just keep sticking stuff that interests them in the drawer until a buy 2 get 1 free sale starts and then they'll buy it.

Yep, when I got my Gitaroo Man the employee who sold it to me said it had been in the employee hold drawer for over a week, and that she thought he had plenty of time to come in and buy it, so apparently he didn't want it anymore.

And then that employee came back in the next day furious that she had sold "his" copy of Gitaroo Man. I've seen games sit in the employee drawer for over 6 months.

It has always been accurate for me. If I go to a store looking for a particular game, it is there. Just, like others have said, don't call ahead. They may snatch it ahead of you. If you don't see it, it's probably in the employee hold drawer.

Been mostly good to me. I've found Gitaroo Man, Rez, and Tactics Ogre for the PS1 that way, except I didn't buy Tactics Ogre cuz it was in sorry shape.

Yep.

I been checking using the Gamestop finder for awhile now and there's a copy of Suikoden at my local store that has been sitting there for about 4 months now according to the finder yet when I ask the employees about it, they say that they dont have any copies...

Also, anyone else having this problem. Ive been looking for Valkyrie Profile for awhile now and I've been trying to use the Gamestop finder and all it says is:

Sorry, no result found

All the other "rare" games that I tried like Rez, Suikoden II, etc work yet VP is the only one that doesnt work in the GS finder.

I bought a last copy of game once checked online and checked a few hrs later when I got home it showed 0 in stock pretty accurate.

The locator will 99% of the time be correct. The only two factors that would throw it off would be a)someone stealing it,which would have to be an employee since they're locked up,or b)like everyone else said,it's in the employee hold draw. My suggestion: management does not allow people to hold games for themselves longer than 2 days(at least at my Gamestop where a friend of mine works). I would say-if it comes up as them having one-simply out and out lying and saying you were told it was in the drawer and the person didn't want it anymore. There's always an off chance you're dealing with 'the new guy'!

If you buy at different stores and fairly often, you start to realize which stores are fairly accurate, and which ones will hide the entire back half of the store from customers. Ditto what many said on often they save things for employees. But I've also had situations where they've said it was there, but defective. Or there, but sent as a hold for another customer, so they're giving them 3 days, then it will be up for grabs.

I also ran into a situation where I trust the manager wasn't lying, and he said these two employees were running a scam where they were saying they were taking in rare games with the highest trade values, but really taking in bogus disks, and getting their friends to be the traders. Of course, it only lasted a few weeks until they caught on, were fired, etc. But by then the inventory was a nightmare, and trying to reconcile it with corporate was insane.

well as an employee of gamestop i cna tell you it is about 75% accurtate. Most of the time the store has. Everyonce and a Well it is beign "over heiled". But i thinl employeess arent supposed to hold somethign over 48 hours.

You must have missed the part where he said he was an employee of gamestop. After that the rest is just jargon, kind of like the way it is when you go into the store.

According to Gamestop's site one of my local store has had a used copy of Reno 911 Season 2 for the last few months, but I've never seen it.

This is why I don't like Gamestop B&Ms

well, here's an update... as of 8am this morning, it's still showing up as having "1-3", which we all know means "1... maybe". but since it's rez, and since it's b2g1 (still, i think), i've decided that it's worth my time to drive the 15 or so miles and check it out.

wish me luck!

Whenever I've had that problem, I just increase the miles distance that I'm doing and it usually brings up results then, yet they're almost always all zeros anyways.

In regards to the topic, this would also explain why I didn't find that Playstation game I briefly mentioned in my other topic about GS employees checking stock of games. The game is/was Tactics Ogre, and I know they don't have it out on the shelf as I checked it 3 times one night when I stopped by there, and then a couple more times that weekend during the b2g1 free. I just checked their locator and it still shows as in stock at that store. Guess one of the employees there is a smarter game collector than I would've originally thought. Ah well. GS employees deserve something for putting up with idiot customers all day.
