In need of a HUGE DVD solution

I don't actually know how many DVDs/Games I have, but I do know I have two full 278-DVD storage racks along with a huge stack on the side, and several tall stacks of games. I think the games are around 150, and the extra DVDs around 50-75, so I estimate I need about a 750-DVD storage solution.

This rack (http://www.storeyourmedia.com/1520-cd-capacity-floor-rack.aspx) is the biggest I can find anywhere, but it's barely big enough so I'd really be limited in my ability to expand my collection. I don't want to spend $250 on a rack today only to need a new one tomorrow.

Any ideas? I know many of you CAGs also have hundreds upon hundreds of DVDs and games. Any of you use a pre-made rack? Custom wouldn't really work considering my current living conditions.

for my games I buy these $5.99 dvd holders at Circuit City. Each one holds 14 games. They interlock together and hang on the wall nicely. They don't work very well with non standard dvd cases though, so I only use them for games. I like them because I can add on to it as I need more room for relatively cheap.

 
that is by far one of the sexiest dvd racks ive ever seen and i wish i had 250 bucks to plank down on it
 
After I moved into my house about 3 years ago I stopped displaying them for show. I went around and looked for entertainment centers with hidden dvd storage. I found a few really nice ones that could hold up to 1000 but they were embedded units and ran up to $1000. I was able to get a nice one called a Tech Orbit for about $250 on sale at HHGregg here is the link. It holds 336 DVDs and I limit my collection of games/dvds to what fits in it. I have a friend who bought one after he saw mine and uses the same unit just for his games.

Have you considered dwindling down the collection or storing games/dvds in seperate solutions...

omg......i could use one of those...but it will be serveral more year before i reach 1000 cds :( im only at 230 and thats due to a 15 year collection project hehe.

What are you using to hold those to the wall? Hooks or nails? I was looking for something to start holding my games and that really looks nice, going to look into that myself.


As for being on topic, I have about 650 dvds myself, I just use regular racks from the store, but not the same type, just whatver fits the space I need it to go in. But I easily saved more space by just putting about 150 dvds in dvd albums, only takes up one shelf on my bookcase for them.

Yeah you could always wait for DDD to have their 20% off sale. It even applys to storage.
 
The only one I see on Deep Discount DVD that's really large is a light oak. I think I'm too picky to go with that... everything in my entertainment room silver and/or black. I think the light oak would really clash.

They have a black one that's 640, but it's pretty narrow, so I could go with two of those... one would be mostly empty for a while, but I think I could live with that.

Very nice. I don't think I'd want to go that route, but it's really nice in your case.
 
Reading this thread makes me think it may be time for us to have a "Show us your setup for how you games are displayed" thread again.
 
I wouldn't look for a dvd case if I were you; they'll be waaay too expensive. I'd just build one myself from home depot, but if you care about looks, head to ikea or something and pick up a huge cabinet/case.
 
FYE is your friend buddy, check out the wall units they have on sale. I nabbed a fairly nice one that holds about 200 of my dvds for only 20 bucks. Sure I had to assemble it myself but it all went well.

It says he has a black version, but his picture of the black looks awful. It doesn't even look like a rack, it looks like something he made in photoshop. I like the spinning though, takes up less wall space, I sent him a message asking for a picture of the finish on the black.

I just use a couple small screws. Really easy to hang.
 
I'm going with an Ikea unit for everything once we move into our new place. Say what you want about PITY furniture, but Ikea is top-notch. I love going into one of their stores.
