Rockstar Games today announced that it is working on a sequel to Manhunt, the violent 2003 stealth action game that cast players as a death-row inmate forced to run a sadistic gauntlet of armed killers. Manhunt 2 is expected to release this summer for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and the Wii, where it will be the first Rockstar title for Nintendo's new platform

Development on the game is a family affair for the company. Rockstar has confirmed it as the debut title for Rockstar London, which is working in conjunction with Rockstar North, the studio responsible for the first Manhunt, and Rockstar Leeds. Rockstar Toronto is also getting into the act by handling development of the Wii version of the game.

"With Manhunt 2 we have tried to create a game that stays close to the original concept of chilling suspense and stealth, whilst pushing the game design and storytelling forward," said Rockstar co-founder Sam Houser.

In 2004, the parents of a murdered 14-year-old blamed their son's death on Manhunt, saying his 17-year-old killer was influenced by the game's brutality. UK retailer Dixons pulled the game from its shelves in the wake of the attack, while a spokesperson for rival retailer HMV said his chain experienced significantly increased demand for the game in the wake of the tragedy.

Police went on record as saying the game hadn't been connected to the boy's death, and the killer's motive was actually robbery.

Manhunt 2 has not yet been rated by the ESRB.

this will not end well
That would be cool if I act like I was using the nunchuck cord to choke someone (in the game, of course).
There are accelerometers in the nunchuck cord?? ;)
Crap, I was beaten to making the thread.. oh well
Your thread is alot better and it belongs to be here since it is for three systems - I'm kind of looking forward to this on the PS2.

It's the system that keeps on surprising me.

Wow, Scorch got scorched!

Well, I didn't see the first thread, so I appreciate it. Manhunt would be great on the Wii! Imagine swinging a bat, breaking a bottle then slicing with it,flicking on a chainsaw with the z button on the nunchuck, slicing down with the wiimote...

Ill paste my comment from the other thread.

I don't see the wii getting a PS2/PSP game as a good thing. This is not going to help them with the crowd that thinks the wii hardware is not "next gen".

I don't know...this seems to be going a bit far. Pressing buttons to kill people in a video game is one thing, actually doing the movements yourself is another. Maybe Rockstar will be smart with how they do the Wii controls.

What's the difference in the motion of doing a sword slash in wario ware to slice a barrel vs a sword slash in Red Steel vs a slash to slice someone open in trauma center vs a slash to slash someone's throat in manhunt?

nothing. just the images on the screen. the movements are the same.

Depending on how Rockstar implements the controls this could cause a shitload of controversy. I honestly don't see anything good about this unless it somehow flies under the radar and a certain someone doesn't notice it. Just gotta wait and see what happens.

I loved the first game although it made me feel weird at the end. I don't see any Xbox love ....thats a shame.

lol i still never finished the first one on the ps2. those controlls really sucked and its a shame too since ive heard some pretty good things about the game but the controls make it more work than fun especially trying to do the stealth kills. id rather play another warriors game anyway they could easily make their own story based on the characters set after the first game.

Hey,my thread is at least 6% cooler.

As for Manhunt2, I hope it doesn't degenerate into a generic shooter at the end.

Probably true, but then, they weren't exactly the type who were on the fence about buying a Wii anyway.
Using the Wiimote to slit someone's throat=win
I hate to break it to you but this idea has already been discussed for "Sadness".

Again whoknows, "Sadness" is already imitating a throat slitting with the Wiimote in it's game. I have to admit I like a game that will be implementing more killing actions. Let's also not forget "Splinter Cell" on the Wii will be implementing the choking action as well.

It's not really Manhunt. It's a spinoff. With swords.

Swords of Manhunt.

Now you too can play Manhunt...with swords!

Also there is a tennis mini game.

You move by rotating the world around you with the Wiimote!

Of course not, but motioning the nunchuck and Wiimote, yes ;)

Exactly, I'm fucking excited about this. 8=======================D

The first Manhunt was the best $7 I ever spent on a game.

I just wish they made one for XBOX360 man that would be awesome.

Expect a lot of controversy if a Wii version actually involves the player physically acting out killing motions like strangling or slitting someone's throat. I would have second thoughts playing a game like that and it would probably deserve an AO rating.

It would be interesting to see if a rating could be affected by the means of control, since generally speaking, the on-screen results of hitting a button or moving the remote would be the same.

Oh shit.

SO WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE WRIST STAP BREAKS NOW, HUH NINTENDO?

DOES A KNIFE FLY THROUGH THE AIR AND KILL MY FRIEND?
