How does the save system work in Metal Slug Anthology? Can you save anywhere? Can you only save in between missions? Or something else?

I'm really into the Metal Slug series, and I'm interested in buying Metal Slug Anthology, but I've read conflicting information regarding the save system.

I understand that the each of the games aren't that long, but it would be a major turn off if I there aren't relatively frequent saves. I've passed over a large number of games that I would have otherwise bought because of the inability to save frequently. Not to hijack my own thread, but the reason I hate the inability to save frequently is because I don't always have the time or interest in being forced to play through a game for a long time before I can save my progress.

Back on topic, how does the save system work in Metal Slug Anthology?

I just opened this up the other night and I didn't notice any mid-game save options. Aside from being able to customize controls, the games just seemed like straight arcade ports. I'll do a more thorough check the next time I play.

You dont save at all. When you beat a game or choose not to continue it saves your score and gives you goodies whenever you beat a game, but there is no saving progress in-game.

You've got the option to set it to unlimited continues though.

I wonder if the producers know how many potential customers they turn off by keeping an old-school save system and difficulty level in place.

This game is getting hard to find. Is it OOP already? I don't seem to find it online and in stores.

The game has unlimted continues. You can 'beat' any single slug game in an hour or less. If anything, they are turning fans off by making the games too easy in this way.

My favorite console slug game is still 3 for the orig xbox, cos it didnt have limitless continues. You actually had to learn the levels and play well if you wanted to beat the game. The only way you could really cheat was to plug in a second controller for a few extra continues.

I don't recall being able to save any ingame progress. But because of the Infinite continues, you can motor through each game in about 45 minutes or so.

Gamequestdirect.com has it new for $40. Use the code CAG1SHIP for free shipping (hopefully it still works).

Thats my exact thought, Id rather be limited to a certain amount of continues. This at least gives me a challenge. To me a game is pointless if you can basically continue all the time. Its just boring. Hopefully SNK Playmore does limit the continues in "SNK Arcade Classics".

Also this game can be found at AMAZON for $39.99 new, and can find it used for around $30.

My bad. I got confused with the various versions of this game. It must be the PSP version that is hard to find.

Actually, I've had a much easier time finding the PSP version then the PS2 version.
MSA is $18 used and I think $20 new (not totally sure, but should be) at Gamestop.
IF you can find a copy there. :(

I found one copy NEW, but gutted at gamestop for $20.00. I wouldn't pay more than that for this game since its been out on Xbox for a long time! Except that you get Metal Slug 6 with it which is a bonus!!!
