So, seeing as the release of this game was soon to come I realize it would be a good idea to start a thread on all the info and what people think about this game.

These appear to be the box arts for Nintendogs, as found on ebgames.com

which one sells the best in japan, and which one will sell the best in america? labs are the most popular breed in the us, so i wonder if people will buy that one.

I don't really care about this game...but if I had a kid who was begging for a dog, like all kids do, I'd get him(or her) this game.

When I get this one, I'm going with the Chihuahua & Friends for the Boxer, and German Shepherd. Each version of the game has 2 breeds I really like included.

Any truth to the rumor that all breeds are eventually unlockable no matter which version you get ??

It's true for the Japanese version, so it's pretty much assumed you'll be able to get all of the breeds in each of the U.S. games.
I think this is the first videogame ever that my girlfriend's been excited about.

I think it looks like a great game that really makes good use of the unique features of the DS. Naming and training your dog using the microphone is so cool. I think I'm getting Chihuahua for the German Shepherd, but I still need to see what the Golden Retriever and Siberian Husky look like.

Boy oh boy, picking up this game in public will strip a man of any severance of masculinity. I suggest taking a female with you to soften the blow ;)

Pugs = teh shit.

Thats what ebgames.com is for :)

I will buy this game at launch. Does anyone know if you get anything special for linking your DS with your friends DS and having your dogs play together ? I hope it's like pokemon and rewards you for linking up your game.

Yes, you get the dog your friend has unlocked in your game.

Petz was a glorified screen saver. You had very little real interaction with the dog or cat. You could throw a ball or set down a dish of food, but most of the time you just watched it run around in the background. I'll agree that the virtual pet idea is not wholly new (if that's what Shiggy was suggesting), but the level of interactivity offered by each game is like night and day.

I'm almost positive that I've read that each breed has a few different "color schemes" so people can customize their puppy a bit more. I think there are about 3 or 4 different schemes per breed.

I need some enterprising bloke to link the pics of the different breeds to the American lineups. I don't know my breeds! (I only own mutts)

Being a cat lover, I hope the sequel is Kittendo--or that they include a few other animals in the same game (dogs, cats, hamsters, ferrets). :)

BrerDan

I too will be getting Dachsunds and friends. My favorite dog is the Dachsund plus the selection of dogs on this cart is far superior to the other two, even if all breeds are unlockable. Also it does have the best cover photo.

happy gaming
The innovation is in the way you interact with the dogs using the touch screen and mic.
The Tamagachi craze has long since come and gone, so I sure hope that the touch screen and microphone add a lot to it. I just don't think raising another virtual pet will be that much fun. Seaman was a possible exception to this.

WOW!!!

Thanks guys--that must have taken a TON of work!!!

All I can say is if Nintendogs can make their virtual pups even half as cute as the photos, then these games are going to be big!!!!! It's just hard NOT to love 'em. My boyfriend doesn't understand my interest in this game since we *have* dogs (of course he doesn't really like any video games period)...but he has started calling our dogs "Nintendogs" because I have talked about it too much.

I'm torn between the Dachsund and Chihuaha editions myself.

Speaking of which, Shayde, what's up with your Shephard pic? Bad experience with one? :)

BIG THANKS to Drumbandit and Shayde!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, I'm a sucker for animals.
Nice pics, now get me in-game pics of the US only breeds.
I'll wait till some one posts it on another board :).

daschund and friends will sell the most here, I know it's the one I'm getting, cause I have a siberian husky at home, and the only other dog I've had was a daschund (however its spelled)

I asked this in the other topic, but no one gave me an answer, so I'll ask again.
I know you can unlock different types of dogs in the game, but how do you do it, and can you have more then one dog at a time?
I'm getting Daschund and Friends for sure, I want a beagle and huskie.
Same here, for the beagle. :) They are so cute.

I'm getting so impatient for this game! :bouncy:

The videos show 3 dogs playing together, so I assume you can raise at least 3 different dogs at a time.

I don't think Nintendo has spelled it out, but from what I've read of importers of the Japanese version there are two ways to unlock the other breeds. One is by participating in dog shows and having your doggie win the shows. I don't know if you accumulate points or what, but I know that it is tied to doing well in the shows and athletic events. The second way is by having your dog meet other dogs in the virtual park (the game can be put in sleep mode and carried around and will "bark" when other people around have the game on). Your dogs will interact with each other on both your DS units and then you both have access to both dogs. I think that's pretty cool. Whether I'll ever know anyone else with a DS, I don't know, but I hope I will!

As for raising more than one at a time, I *think* the limit is three, but I'm not sure.

nice pic of the pug... oddly enough I own a 14, going on 15, year old pug. I notice alot of older pugs do this thing with their tounge where they sleep with it outside of their mouth... it's fun to play with their tounge when they're asleep... it feels funny since it's a dry tounge after hous of sleeping.

oh... and check this out... i have this pic in my tradelist:

LOL Very good point!!! Of course, the more I think about it, I guess all you would see is this ball of fur curled up in a corner :)

This would make it cheap to develop though!

in response to the question about how many dogs you can raise... i think you can raise 3 at your house and keep 5 at the hotel... i haven't played the game but from what i read about the game, that's what i understand.

i'll probably want the chihuahua and friends because ive grown quite fond of german shepherds as of late because of this one video i saw on the net... let me get a link:

http://www.idleriot.com/media/videos/Extreme/652/Gangsta_Police_Attack_Dogs.html

man they're are freaking cool!

oh and... i dont like cats... but that game name sure is ku sir. kittendo. good one.
