Hey guys, sorry this is the most random thing but it's bothering me because I cant remember the name of this place.

Do any NYCers here remember the name of the video game shop that used to be on 32nd St. I think? It was right across the street from Manhattan Mall and they had anime stuff, imports and even arcades machines for awhile.

It just popped into my head and bothered me because I couldnt remember.

Thanks for any help!

It's not Image, theyre still around arent they? I know they moved..

Regardless I finally remembered, it was Game Express!

Man did you just bring back the memories. I remember emptying my wallet in there plenty of times. I got my dreamcast there, my PS1 - and so much awesome imported stuff.

Anybody know if all of their shops went belly up or if it was it just that one?

Haha, that had a pretty good selection of stuff back in the day. But yeah that's why it was bugging me that I couldn't remember the name!

According to their website (gameexpress.com) they dont seem to have any stores left and have totally become an internet only retailer.

Used to go there all the time when I worked further down the street. Hit it up every time I went into the city (aside from work) and every time I went to get lunch. Bought a wealth of anime from there, not to mention their store out in Carle Place while it was still around.

The fact that the workers went ahead and recorded what they played last night and played it on the TVs in the store? God bless them. It immediately got me into those really niche titles nobody had ever heard of (at that point) like Radiant Silvergun, Giga Wing, Giga Wing 2, Bangai-o...

I think the only good video game shop left, as far as imports and domestics go, might be Video Games New York. Please prove me wrong. I beg of you. I need new haunts and I can only traverse so much of NYC by foot each go, especially when my friends fear fresh air and must ride the subway instead. ;)

Duh, I forgot they had a website. Thanks man.

Actually, there's some decent prices on there.. $20 for Resistance on PSP? Might have to go for that one-

There is always J&L and Initial D in Chinatown. J&L is the bigger of the two, but Initial D (located inside the Elizabeth street shopping center) sometimes has some rare stuff.

VGNY, J&L and Initial D are probably the only game stores in the city that deal with imports and domestics.

I always hit VGNY when I am in New York. Was there 2 weeks ago with friends and they grabbed FF 13 demo, oh and that blu ray movie :) , Africa, and I grabbed Demon Soul. Some older stuff as well (Goldeneye, Xenogears).

Been to J+L before don't think we ever hit Initial D will try to find that one.

Are those the only good stores for imports or older games in NYC?

There was also another hole in the wall place a little closer to Penn, same side of the street. They sold new titles for way cheap, but it was cash-only. They always claimed the credit card machine was "broken". they are gone too...

Funny thing I use to work at GE but the one Queens. Place always had a decent selection but the stories I can tell you about how it was managed. I wasnt surprised at all when they closed all there retail stores.

Is this the one that had the guy with big puffy hair? If so I used to buy a lot of stuff there including used games.

Btw there is a Game Express in the Bronx but don't know if it is the same people or different ownership...

If you want to know if its the same owner just ask if the owner of the company is Korean.

Holy Crap, I think my friend used to help run that store...maybe 4-5 years ago? If it's the same store I'm thinking.

The stuff in the Elizabeth Shopping center's prices tend to be...unattractive for a CAGer, though I guess if you want import there aren't many local options.

Video Games New York (formerly Saint Mark's Games) deals with a wide variety of old games and imports.

Beware, as it is CRAMPED.

Those guys even have a Philips DVD player-slash-Gamecube. Not for sale, unfortunately.
yes game express is still owned by the same korean, mr jay
lol that guy was such a cheapskate I'm glad all his stores closed cause he was shady business dealer and loved to screw over all his employees unless you were korean.

Panasonic Q good sir, was in there the other day, guys seemed real nice , but th eprices on the goods were crazy, I have to assume that they expect you to haggle with them to bring it down. Or they price it that high for the ignorant yuppies that want "classic" old school games.
