Playing Japanese PS2 games on My US PS2
Does anyone know if it's possible to play Japanese PS2 games on a US PS2? And also to play in english? :) :) :)
Did you just seriously ask if you can import a Japanese game and play it in English? Like there's a magical option that changes everything to English?

Yeah, just put a babelfish in your ear.

Well, aren't there a couple Japanese games that have options to play in English? Maybe the question isn't toooo out there...

As for playing imports, yes, it's possible, but I think talking about it is a no-no here. Try Google.

Silent Hill 4 and Tekken 5 (Asian version) can be played in english. You either do a swap-disc thing or mod chip. I think you can talk about swap-disc, but not mod chip stuff on here for sure.

I would like to know also. I dont want to mod, are the games region free or do I need to buy a jap. ps2?

Am I allowed to post this?
Oh wait, Ill just go to forums.afterdawn, thats all about modding.
I think you can talk about swap-disc, but not mod chip stuff on here for sure.
I thought both were bad cuz they can both play backups... but there have been non-locked threads on both, so I dunno.

The thing about the swap disc is that you still need to do some tweaking with your console hardware (stick stuff into random places). But yeah, that forum Riyonuk mentioned is a better resource to get details on those sort of things.

Actually, the safest, easiest and most reliable option is to use an HD. You can buy HD Loader, or you can get an Action Replay and use a memory card exploit.

Actually, I heard that the PS3 will be region free - or at the least, Japan and the US will share the same region code.

Which leads me to wonder - can I play imported PS2 games from Japan on an American PS3? It won't be a big enough reason for me to get it at launch, but definitely up the Attractiveness Factor.

Where the fuck did you hear this?

Actually, that's true. Sony did say the PS3, like the PSP, would be region free for games (not movies, though).

And the HDTV format replaces PAL and NTSC, so you can even play European games (provided you use HDTV cables).

What's this Action Replay Memory Card exploit. I've never heard of it.

The memory card exploit is a way if tricking your ps2 into running hombrew code loaded onto the memory card. It's kind of complicated to explain, and I'm not sure if I can explain it here.

Edit-And it only works with the old fat ps2's, they fixed the exploit with the slim series.
