Problems with Castlevania: SOTN on PS2

I just got Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for PS1 today from EBgames.com used. I happily plopped it into my PS2 (I do not own a ps1), awaiting to play a game which many consider the best of the best. But then my PS2 decides to play it as an audio cd, and plays 'track 2', which from some searching, is some hidden easter egg of sorts. What can I do to get it to play the freakin game instead of as an audio CD?

I already tried reseting the ps2, turning it off, putting in the disc while it's at the browser, and I tried a disc doctor. It still does the same thing. This was the game I most wanted to play in my CA order from ebgames :(.

I've tried it with both on, and both off. It still just loads as an audio cd. Only thing I can think of right now is that only the game part of the disc got damaged..idk. If no one knows anything I guess I'll just try to exchange it at an EB around here.

"Castlevania Symphony of the Night: Crashes immediately with FL turned on. TS
causes some weird graphical glitches."

I'd be happy with THAT. I don't even get to the game, it doesn't load it as a game, it acts like it's a cd basically.

Sounds like a PS2 reading PS1 problem. When it reads a PS1 games as an audio CD, it obviously dosn't recognize it as a PS1 game. Do you own any other PS1 games?

Yea, I have FF7-9, tactic, origins, syphon filter 2, & soul blade and they all work. I'm starting to think more that the disc is just wacked. The top of the disc looks a tad scratched, and that's the sensitive part. I've asked about this on 3 different forums and no one has anything, so it's probably just that.

Edit: Awesome avatar, it's a tragedy it couldn't go on :(

Holy Shista! Captain Obvious emerges from his hidden lair which cannot be seen!

My suggestion would have been to try other PS1 games, but since those work I'm not sure what the problem could be. Try starting the PS2 with the disk tray open, with no PS2 memory cards inserted. Then go to the browser, put in SOTN and close the disk tray. Maybe it will identify it as a PS1 game in the browser and let you select it from there, but it will most likely just play it as a CD again.

And not to hijack the thread, but scsg75 where did you get that TV stand in your pic and how much was it?

Tried that, I think the disc is doomed. I'm heading out tomorrow to find a replacement at an EB, if not I'll just return it and wait till I find another copy. Go ahead and hijack away :p. Thanks for the help guys. Can't wait to try this game! grr

My SotN plays fine in both my PSone and big fat original PS2... your disc may be fragged. Good luck tracking down another one, may you be blessed with a functional Castlevania.

Since I've accepted the fact my disc is doomed, I went hunting this morning. I couldn't find it ANYWHERE. No EB had it, no BB's had it. I think I'll just give up and return it and wait for it to come back in stock online :(.

I have been wanting this game for quite awile and I do not have a PS1. When I find it it had better work in my PS2! Everyone keeps seeing it at BB except me (and you, apparently).
