PS2 Complete Rockband Bundle for $99.99 @ walmart and Best buy and $109.99 @ Gamestop
I think it's on sale for $100 at BB this week.
You are correct, I shit myself when I saw it then realized it was for the PS2.

is it a sign of a price drop? it would be a good investment for PS3 owners if next-gen isn't gonna drop too.

wait for a 25% off used PS3 game coupon and use the edge card to get the game for like $19.49 before tax. and to make it even better, trade in the PS2 game to lower it even more...or use it to get some kinda 20% extra from a preorder like GH: Aerosmith, probably Soul Calibur IV, etc.
I wonder what is going on with the PS2 bundle being on sale so much? Gamestop, Best Buy, Amazon all have it on sale
Because people aren't buying the PS2 version? Why? Because everybody keeps saying it's neutered. Which it is a bit, but it's still great. I'm hoping they sell enough to keep keep putting out add-on discs for it.

Don't forget Walmart...

Also does anyone know where I can find a track listing for the ps2 version?

As far as I know the track-list is identical to the 360 and PS3 versions. I haven't unlocked all the songs yet, but I'm pretty certain it says "of 45" when talking about how many songs you've played in career mode, and of the songs I have unlocked, they are the same as in the next-gen version.
Does this works on PS3 console via PS2 adapter?
I'm pretty sure the instruments for the PS2 and PS3 versions are identical, so you should just be able to use them on their own.

for anyone that's not clear on the differences between this & next-gen versions:

- PS2 instruments are IDENTICAL to PS3 instruments...zero difference
- PS2 lacks the create-a-character, online play & downloadable content
- PS2 graphics don't look as nice

IMO, the $100 price is just right...it's roughly 40% cheaper than the next-gen versions, and I'd say that they took away 40% of the features in the PS2 version...

so if all you really plan on doing is local multiplayer & don't plan on buying DLC, I think this is a fair price...

If anyone wants this in trade or via paypal:
I've got the PS2 version of the RB bundle on my tradelist...with an extra guitar, to boot.

maybe i should throw in the ultimate ps3 80gb mgs4 bundle on eBay, lol! watcha think? yeah or nah.

As mentioned, the PS2 instruments work on the PS3. You can pick up a copy of the PS3 version (game only) and it will work just like you got the PS3 bundle. Right now I think Rock Band (game only) for the PS3 is $30 used at Gamestop. Trade in the PS2 game and you basically have the PS3 version of Rock Band for around $110.

Actually the PS2 version sold pretty good compared to the PS3 version. According to VGchartz.com:

PS2 version sold 400,000 copies
PS3 version sold 630,000 copies
360 version sold 1,560,000 copies
*Doesn't distinguish from game only and bundle.

I don't know if the PS2 number is higher because people are buying it just for the instruments but I imagine it has a lot to do with people already having guitars from GH1, GH2, and GH80s and microphones from other games.

EDIT:
Sales figures for Guitar Hero 3:

Wii - 2.79M
360 - 3.04M
PS3 - 1.32M
PS2 - 3.98M

Or to put it another way, the PS2 version has sold the worst. :) 230,000 less than the PS3 and 1,160,000 less than the Xbox 360. What really matters, though, is inventory. Presumably they overestimated the sales of the PS2 bundle, and did better with their estimate of the sales of the PS3 and 360 bundles. Hopefully 400,000 is enough to justify producing more (or any) add-on discs for the PS2 (the first one could yet be canceled, but I hope not.)

What will be really interesting to see is how well the Wii version sells. In terms of consoles out there in use, the Wii should then see good sales, but on the other hand it's neutered just like the PS2 version and yet doesn't have the advantage of the instruments being compatible with some other platform too, that the PS2 version does. Actually I only say that in theory. I wouldn't be shocked if the instruments are really all compatible with each other. They all plug in via USB, so they could be compatible (will the Wii version plug in via USB? I guess they might not) and it would be easier and cheaper to make them all compatible (why have different code on different platforms when it isn't necessary?) I think the only difference may be how they've labeled/colored the buttons. Somebody needs to test it out and see.

But you also have to consider that PS2 is "last generation".

I do agree with the quantity aspect of your post though.

I did this today. Here's how it went down:

Step 1: Best Buy

Rock Band PS2 was 99.99. I brought the $10 off $75 coupon from this thread. I also brought a $50 gift card and a $8 "leftover" giftcard that I'd never spent, and my Reward Zone card.

Total cost was $36.97

Step 2: GameStop

I went to a GameStop that's a little farther from home, but it gives out "20% off any used" coupons every 3 months. I had already used the store locator to see they had PS3 Rock Band.

Cost after coupon and Edge was $23.26. I then asked what the trade-in value for PS2 Rock Band was. The guy said $14.

So, I went out to the car, opened up Rock Band, took out the PS2 game and put the PS3 one in its place. Opened the PS2 game and brought it in the store and traded it in.

The guy zapped the game and my Edge card, and also a coupon he kept next to the register. This was a +50% trade-in coupon, so I got $22.40 for PS2 Rock Band.

This means the PS2/PS3 game swap cost me $0.86. The whole deal for PS3 Rock Band cost me (out of pocket) $37.83.

Taking the gift cards out of the equation, the whole thing still cost less than $100. Awesome deal. Thanks everyone, in this and other threads, for helping me work this one out.
