I am considering buying a PSP Slim. I understand that all units are not region locked nor are the games. What I would ike to know is if there are any other factors to consider before purchasing.

Are there any features one may provide that another does not.

and I do understand that the adapter/charger will probably be foreign if I get an import. Will any PSP Slim Adapter/charger work with any unit? If I get an australian unit and plug in a U.S. Adapter will that destroy the unit? do I just need to get a voltage adapter?

any help is greatly appreciated.

games are region free, but UMD movies are not. You also dont get warranty if something goes wrong. You can always just charge with usb.

I think the Ok/Cancel functions of the X and O buttons are reversed on the Japanese models. Of course, if you flash it with a custom firmware, there are hacks to un-reverse them.

Here's the deal on voltage and different regions.

If you live in the US, Japanese PSPs and their AC adapters will have no issues plugging into the wall. They'll work fine, won't blow up, etc.

If you plug a European or Australian PSP into the wall, it won't work right and could fry the system. I haven't been in that exact scenario but I did have an original Xbox that got plugged into a wall in a 220 volt country and that resulted in the power supply blowing up. You could buy a convertor (not just a surge protector) and use a PAL region system in the US but it's probably more trouble than it's worth.

If I were you (assuming you'll be using the system in the US), I'd definately stick to either a US or Asian/Japanese system.

If the charger for the system is not the correct voltage, you can just buy a charger locally for the PSP. All PSPs charge under the same power, 5V DC. It's just the charger that is different in the different regional packaging.

But I'd still recommend the local version unless you really want a color that is not available in the US. This is for the reasons above such as the UMD region protection, warranty, etc.

P.S. usually if you plug a 120V device into a 220V socket it will fry, but most likely it will just blow a fuse in the system which can be replaced for a few dollars. It's not necessary that the whole system is fried if you plug it into a too-high-voltage socket. Also note that if you plug a European 220V device into the U.S. 120V power, it will not get damaged as the voltage is simply just too low to operate on.

when i bought my psp-slim in hong kong, it came with m33 firmware... i was told that they flash everything new cause no one buys systems without hacks/chipped anymore

they even gave me a 120v plug, usb cable, psp case, and component av cable, and a 2gb san disk ms... all for under $200 USD with a little bargining

I went home happy :D

I was wondering about this becuase I recently bought a charging stand for a friend and when I got it it had english and a foreign language on it. The back part though where you plug it in does say 5V though. I don't have a PSP so I don't really know. I just hope it works and doesn't break the thing!

I got a Japanese fat PSP and it came with a worldwide AC adapter (100-240V). The only negative about it is the swapped X and O button functions, region 2 lock and firmware update from the Japanese website.

P/S. Anyone knows if I could kill the system if I update it with an American released firmware?

You'll be fine. I put US firmware on my Japanese PSP with no problems. I think the firmware is all the same, actually.

just like every one sez, US firmware is not an issue on jpsp's .....i have a phatty ceramic and i use the charger that came with it, i also use that to charge my girl's US slim psp black

The only reason to get an import is for the style or special eddition. I got mine from Japan for the plain ceramic white and it looks sweet. The only diffrences are the X and O are switched(but you can fix that in recovery mode). The import carries the english languge, so theres no worry about that. And custom firmware works just like US PSPs. You have to downgrade to 1.50 and then upgrade to which ever FW you want.

Could you elaborate on the recovery mode fix, please?

Well, you need CFW on there first, check out psp-iso.com for it. I recomend 3.71 m33-4 (yype it in the search and youll find it). But once you do that:
1. Turn you PSP on.
2. While holding R turn your PSP off.
3.While holding R turn your PSP on.
