I'm needing to pick up a new pair of shoes, and with the 30% off sale that Foot Locker is running, I figured now would be the best time to pick up a pair.

I found this pair of Nike Shox that I liked and went to the store to see the shoe in person. Foot Locker only had the black/silver version of this shoe in store. I tried it on and it felt good, but the one thing that worries me is the bottom of the shoe where the Shox are at. Does that part of the shoe break easily? The bottom of the shoe looks thin and I'm worried it will break easily.

Here is a picture that might help you see what I'm talking about a little better.

These are the other pair of shoes that I'm looking at. Does anyone here own a pair of these or something like them? If so, do they feel good and are they durable?

I've got a pair of the a3s. The actual cushioning system holds up quite well over time. There are a few things to look for, especially if you're planning on really putting them through some abuse (heavy running, etc.). One of the pairs I have, the rubber sole part, at a few areas, are coming off. It's actually barely noticeable. It's in the back corner of the largest cushioning 'stem' and only about the size of a really small pebble is coming off. It's right at the edge and it hasn't degraded much from that. The other a3s are fine, though. That pair, I just used a whole lot.

Another thing to watch out for and this might affect the Shox more since I can't see the bottom, but if you're doing any trail running or areas with loose rocks/stones, it can get caught in between the shox areas if there's space.

Reason I say that is because in that same a3 pair (a3 Megaride--a few of the earlier pairs of a3s had the same design at the bottom), that clear/white area in the bottom of the Microride pic you have up, is an open area, so when you step down, you can have rocks and other debris get caught in between. Not so much a problem with the Microrides though since it's now enclosed and there's only that small circle to show off the logo in the bottom.

Here are a few more pics of the Shox shoe.

The bottom of the shoe has a lot of small slits on it, and when I was messing with the shoe at the store it seemed really flexible and thin. I don't plan on doing a lot of running in either of the shoes. I do walk over a lot of rocks, sticks, and other stuff which could either get stuck in those slits or poke through and break the plastic.

Even though I really like the color/look of the Nike shoe, I'm starting to lean more towards the Adidas shoe just because of that thin plastic part.

Thank you for your help

Sure thing. The Microrides are a pretty comfy pair. I actually wish I'd gotten that red pair you showed. The white ones are a pain to keep clean.

I have one last question, do the Adidas shoes run about the same size as Nike or are they larger/smaller? I wear a size 11 in Nike shoes.

Haven't bought a pair of Nikes in years, but when I did, the Adidas were usually half a size to a full size larger than the Nikes.
