Hey there, had a question about fat ds colors and their rarity/value. It's a petty issue but I would appreciate it if you could offer some help.
Back in January of 2008, a friend of mine gave me his fat DS to sell... it was that turqoise colored DS that came with Nintendogs, his GF bought it for him and he never really used it. I figured we could get about $50 for it, so I put it on ebay. It ended up selling for $150(no box, and only in decent condition)! I figured it must have been a rarer color or something, but whatever the reason I was pretty damn happy.
Flash forward to today. I have some excess gamestop credit I don't have any need for that I was hoping to convert into cash, and I happened to notice a local GS has one of those light blue DS's in stock. I figured I could just buy that and make back my $$$(and if my last auction was an indicator, possibly more!) but when I got on ebay it doesn't quite look like they're even fetching the $80 I was hoping to recoup. There were only two listings I noticed, one sold for $55 and the other didn't get any bidders at $70.
My question is this: are these light blue DS's really worth anything or was my initial auction's success a fluke? For one thing, despite being a different color they share the same name as the dark blue unit, that being "electric blue". Those darker units are fetching betweek $60-80, do you think it's possible that bidders confused mine with that darker color? Or perhaps it's just that the market fell out for this specific color?
