Recommend Me a Game Similar to Outrun

I'd like to play a driving game that's kinda like Outrun, but it's not a primarily a racing game confined to a race track. If I just wanted to race I'd pick up any of the more famous titles. I just want to see what other options there are.

The NFS series has gotten pretty good check out most wanted its more open world and you run from cops kind of like outrun. Rivals just got released which I picked up today for PS4.

Have you tried the more recent Outrun games? I've always been interested in those never got to playing them though. I don't know all of them but there is Outrun Online Arcade and Outrun 2006.

I would say ridge racer series would have closet gameplay/feel to outrun.. can be had for very cheap as well
