Shadow of the Colossus plays a role in the film Reign Over Me...

Saw it last night, great film.

Although they kept calling it "Shadows of the Colossus:, which drove me nuts. (also it looked like they were using a Xbox controller)

Yeah, the "shadows" was annoying. I'm pretty sure they were using a wireless PS2 controller which is why it looked bigger. They actually knew how to play the game when he was explaining the controls to him.

Neat. But I'm sure it's not a coincedence that it's a SCEA game, showing up in a Sony Pictures film ...

I don't think they were trying to promote their product. I read that they originally had him playing a generic action game, like every other movie, and someone on the set ( I forget who) pushed for them to use SotC. They liked it.

They also noted, that if they were trying to push a product, they could have had playing a PS3 instead of a two year old game.
At least it's not FFVIII in Charlie Angels with TWO people playing it at the same time.
I was actually more concerned with the "nude" Drew Barrymore.

Yeeeeeah ... I don't know about that. It's an easy thing for them to say, but are there really no better games that someone with 9/11 issues might become fixated on? Wasn't one of the Ace Combat games delayed because of how close it could simulate 9/11, with the whole "plane into a skyscraper" thing? So they just happened to pick a Sony branded game, that will never, ever show up anywhere else? Still seems like product placement to me. Subtle product placement -- not the "Boy, James Bond really likes his Sony Viao and his Sony Eriksonn mobile phone!" sort -- but product placment nonetheless.

Yeah well she did show up after the fact, no reason not to see both

Product placement that has an actual place with the movie.

I'll try to find a link, but the director/writer Mike Binder specifically used Shadow of the Colossus because it had similar themes to the film.

I recommend the film by the way to those who haven't seen it. It's a very interesting story and very different take on how 9/11 affected people's lives. This is probably Adam Sandler's best performance to date (Yes, better than Punch Drunk Love) and Don Cheadle is fantastic as always.

Yes, I noticed this the other night while watching...kinda felt like a nerd knowing that though....
