Trading in duplicates at Gamestop?

I don't know where you can read the policy, perhaps someone else can help with that, but from what I understand the basic policy is that GS reserves the right to refuse trades for any reason they may see fit. Obviously if you trade in multiples of the same game the GS systems are going to start noticing that you might be capitalizing on their trade-in service and give you the ol' ban hammer. Now, you might be able to get away with it a couple of times... depends on the employee you're dealing with.

I work for the company, and yes, you cannot trade in duplicates. The company sees it as a risk of taking advantage of maybe somewhere you can get the games for cheap, or maybe they are easy to steal, but in any case, they won't let you trade in multiples of the same thing, especially if the items are new.

basically what happens when you trade in multiples that store will get flagged in the system, so managers instruct all employees to not take in multiples of the game. its nothing in the system that will stop it or anything, GS employees are all told during the training taking in multiple copies is not allowed. manager has the right to refuse trades if he suspects something is wrong, and this is one of those situations they have discretion in.

If you can make money by selling them to Gamestop, then you could make more by selling them direct. Unless there's something wrong with them.

i traded in two brand new sealed copies of golden axe beast rider (of course they opened them to make sure they were there) when they asked me why i had two and why i was trading new copies, i told them i got them for 10 bucks during a black friday sale, i even showed them my packing slip. they had no problem with it (but i was putting the money towards reserving something, and i had also recently traded in a 360 and bought a brand new one, so maybe they just like me for giving them my money.)

They did 2 things against policy - accept sealed games, and accept duplicates. Gamestop will not accept sealed games. You can go outside and open it and come back in and they have no problem with it but I think it is to make sure the disc inside is legit.

well he told me they had to be opened but when i pulled out the packing slip he said that was fine then and they could take them and he opened them up instead of making me leave and open them. and i also called and asked them if they take multiple copies, told them i had 2 but i had the packing slip to prove they were not stolen, and he said that's fine they can take them. (not trying to argue with you guys or anything like that, or say you are wrong, i don't know the gamestop policies as i never worked there or anything, just sharing my experience with this situation)

I got a good haul at my blockbuster for flipping which included two GTA 4 and two God of war 2. Went to trade them in with a stack of about 6 other games and the manager took the duplicates out. When I asked y he said they couldnt take duplicates of a game. I forgot who said what next but we started arguing and I told him it was fine I would jus have my brother come in and trade the duplicates in. He said he wouldnt allow that and I said y not its a separate customer with his own account. He tried to insist that they wouldn't take duplicates and I said how comes theirs 20 copies of Gears of war 2 on the rack and 20 copies of call of duty. He said you know what im going to refuse the transaction. I said y he stated it was suspicious. I said how are you going to refuse me service give me the number to your corparate offices and your name. He pulled out a book and was about to give it to me but then said ill do the transaction. I said okay. He was doing the transaction while i had the duplicates in my hand and

he then said youre going to have your brother trade those in and i said yea. he said give them to me ill save you the trouble and took them. I was suprised he did that. But i guess they do take duplicates...

Pretty simply, GS is out to make as much money as they can. They don't want your multiples becuase it looks like you're taking advantage to line your own pockets while sticking GS with stolen/crap clearance games they won't be able to sell all of... becuase, let's face it, that what most of the dup traders ARE doing. And that's bad (as far as GS is concerned, anyway.)

If the employees don't care, you might get lucky. But don't assume you'll be able to.

They somehow let me get away with multiple copies(all traded in at seperate times) of the one triple pack of games for the Xbox about a year or two ago, back when they had the 'trade 3, get $10 extra' deal. I think I was paying $4 from Kmart for them and I was getting $13 and change PER pack.

FYE also allowed me to get away with innumerable copies of the game Powerdrome Racing for the PS2, which was getting an INSANE $15-17 EACH at one point, while Gamestop was selling them for $2-3 each.

During the $4 last gen game sale from Hollywood Video last fall, I traded in so many games(including MANY dupes)that it was hilarious and a shock I didn't get banned yet again.

Those instances aren't even counting the times when I traded in sealed copies of Dynasty Warriors Gundam to Blockbuster for $35 or so each back when they were getting that much. I cleaned out my local two Circuit City stores to grab the copies for $15 each, among other places.

funny to hear all these stories, the guys at our GS are all pretty straight forward and nice. Except they always pester me to get a game informer subscription. (like i need it...)
Actually, if you have the receipt it's okay.
actually even if you have the receipt they can still choose to not accept it. i had a few duplicates from a previous tru sale on soul bubble and they still would not take it in. it really inst the fact that they arent sure if its stolen or not, its the fact that if they do take in multiple copies of the same game at the same store, someone can actually get fired for that since it sends a red flag to corporate, so they always choose not to do it.

I've read the policy. I know what it says. But it does say that it's okay if the receipt is present. They would just have to keep the receipt to show their LP person. They just don't want to deal with it. That's all.
