When Revenge of the Fallen lands in your hands, you'll be able to take up arms as either the Earth-protecting Autobots or the cranky and destructive Decepticons in a cast of characters Activision is calling "the largest, most diverse range of playable Transformers." Each of those 'bots will pack specific abilities and weaponry. On their way to places such as Cairo and Shanghai, players will be able to switch instantly between their Transformers vehicle and biped forms and be able to take the action online and battle other players in new multiplayer modes.

"The Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen videogame will give fans the chance to experience their favorite Autobots and Decepticons in an all-new, movie-inspired adventure packed with the thrilling and explosive action that only the Transformers universe can deliver," said Rob Kostich, vice president of global brand management, Activision, Inc. "We are thrilled to announce that after experiencing the rush of commanding colossal robots on their own, players can challenge their friends for the first time ever in full-featured, blistering multiplayer action as their favorite characters."

With so many different versions of the game being developed, there are a lot of companies to keep track of. Luxoflux is working on the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.

Activision wasn't ready to announce a release date, but the smart money is on these games arriving just in time for the theatrical release of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on June 26, 2009. Until then, keep your browsers on IGN and we'll keep you up to date.

I hope they don't mess it up like the last games. I wish they'd go more of an Armored Core apprach of really fast paced boost filled battles instead of hack'n'slash fights.

AutoBots
-Arcee female
-Bumble Bee
-Ratchet Iron Hide
-Skids and Chevy Beat (2 small cars brothers) can transform individually or combine to for 1 bigger robot.
-Iron Hide
-Sideswipe (silver concept Corvette)
-Jolt (a GM Volt added last minute requested by GM)
-Jetfire
-OPtimus Prime with trailer
-Wheelie radio controlled car

Decepticons
I don't care other than Soundwave will be there as a Cybertronian transport ship and has 2 helper guys that pop out of him.

and the Constructicons will be there.

Too bad Devastator and Bonecrusher names were mistakenly used in the first movie for the wrong Decepticons thess were the original names of the Constructicons.

Devastator and the Aerialbots were the only 2 Big Transformers I had as a kid 5 toys combine to form 1 big guy, What a sales gold mine and gimic to squeeze money from parents.

I liked the first one alright enough. I just hope they speed up their walking speed. I know you could just transform, but it was tedious to walk around.

The first one was okay, I could tell it was rushed. But I'm a sucker for all TF games (even the shitty G1 Import only PS2 game)

Talk about strange pre-order bonus...

I'm going to have to pass.

I have some hope for this too. The first game's flaws were in areas that could easily be fixed. It was weird cause each version of the last game offered something that if it was all combined would have made for a decent game. The DS has the open world, the PSP had the best supplemental story, and the Xbox had both factions on one game and the visuals.

I was playing the Red Faction 2 demo thinking the detructible element in that game should be in the Transformers game.

Dude I thought the same thing, especially as I was walking around in the huge mechanical suit thing crashing through all the buildings.

Anyways, I liked the Transformers game on PS2 and the one on the 360 wasn't bad for being released alongside with the movie. I agree with hoping they will take a more 'Armored Core' direction but without the unbelievably overwhelming tune up mode.

Wow, that does look good. Starscream taking out an aircraft carrier, Optimus vs Devestator... I think I'm sold gentlemen.

Kind of a bummer that it's just a different paint job and not a different in-game character model. The only redeeming thing about the first one was the Prime and Megatron G1 character models.
Not expecting much out of Revenge of the Fallen other than hopefully being able to actually transform in mid-air.

The paint job doesn't make him look anymore like G1 Ironhide. We need more retro models. The Optimus & Megatron G1 models from the first game were a nice touch, but I didn't invest that much time to actually unlock them.

I heard, from Gameradar's podcast TalkRadar 52, that even though not a lot can be talked about it from what they saw it looks surprisingly good. They definitely need a destructive engine like what Bad Company used. Haha that would be awesome. Didn't play the first one though.

Also here's what joystiq had to say about it:
It's hard to take developers at face value when they're sitting around talking about how cool their game is, but in this case we have the first-hand knowledge to agree. While Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen might not be "more faster-paced" than other multiplayer games, it's a heck of a lot of fun. More fun than the single player, in fact.

Here's another (warning: movie spoilers at the first min:

Sounds really interesting...there's different classes depending on the robot you choose, if you are Ratchet for example, you can heal your teamates. It's sounding better and better every time I hear something new.

If they would just put in the G1 versions of the transfomers, I'd be really happy about that. It'd be nice that in Multiplayer you could join up and for bigger robots, contructicons (players) joining together as bruticus..

The Constructicons form Devestator & the Combaticons form Bruticus. ;)

G1 skins for multiplayer confirmed:

Checking in on Activision's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, I chatted for a bit with producer Jason Ades, who explained the sad business truth behind the lack of a Generation One Transformers video game. While the Revenge of the Fallen game contains numerous references to the original Transformers series, with Aerialbots, Protectorbots, episodes of the cartoon, and a couple of unlockable G1 skins for multiplayer, we won't be seeing a G1 game any time soon. Why? Because there isn't enough demand.
Despite the large and vocal group of G1 fans, a group that I consider myself a part of, Activision doesn't consider that enough to launch a project based on the series. Unless Hasbro does something huge with the original toys and cartoons, that's not likely to change any time soon.

It's a sad truth of the video game industry - there is a distinct lack of willingness to take chances. That's one of the reasons Activision dropped Ghostbusters...why make a game without a major movie release to coincide with it?

Ades put things into perspective for me, pointing out that the first Transformers movie video game, despite being a giant pile of suck, sold millions of copies. People today just aren't as familiar with the origins of the franchise to gamble on the nostalgia factor alone.
Perhaps the release of Atari's Ghostbusters game will change that, and publishers will be more apt to look to the past for big name titles.
This also seems to indicate that whatever High Moon is working on for Activision, it isn't a Generation One Transformers title. Let the sadness ensue.

Multiplayer looks fun, but the lack of environmental destruction is pretty disappointing and single player I'm going to assume is going to be mediocre at best.
Anyone get this yet?
I'm really eager to see how this is too. The first one was decent which made me happy, so hopefully they've improved on it and made it even better. If only it was closer to $40. Soon...soon...

IGN gave it a 6, but maybe the players will be more enthused about it. It sounds like the cinemas are even worse than they were in the first game but the multiplayer is fun.

I don't know, you kinda convinced me to get part 1 (not that you were talking directly to me), and that sure wasn't a good idea.

Wish there was a demo for it so you guys could try it out. I haven't gotten to deep into it yet, just a few missions. It is definitely better then the first...doesn't feel glitchy/rushed like the first. The transformations are pretty sweet, you press RT for gas and your robot transforms into a vehicle, you let go and he's back in robot mode. You can upgrade your teams weapons, shields, turbo...and a few other things. Every mission has a timer and you get medals based on the time you spend beating it...the medals unlock extra stuff...including G1 episodes.

Combat more or less feels like Vigilante 8, minus the frustration behind how difficult V8 is...it does get a bit repetitive but every mission has you playing as a different robot...meet certain requirements and you can unlock all bots for replaying any of the missions as anyone.

It's probably not worth full price for those who aren't hardcore fans, but I'd say it's a solid game at $30-40.

I thought it was good actually. I would buy it for 30 bucks IF the online community is there. I searched almost every game last night and only got in on TWO GAMES. Both being Deathmatch. But I say it's a vast improvement over the first. Plus they have Megatrons Original voice in it! :D

I actually liked the first one so it's great to hear this is an improvement. I should be getting this in a few days from gamefly. Sucks to hear that there's no online community considering they spent a lot of time on multiplayer.

Anyone know about how long this is? The first one was very short, probably about 5-6 hours.
I HATE the whole "hold the button down to stay transformed" aspect.
I will agree with you on that one. I wish there was just a button we could push to stay transformed. Also is it me OR, is it extremely hard to fly the helicopter in hover mode or even the final optimus prime version? I Feel like I Sometimes have to use both hands just to get him to fly upwards.
I'm loving it...way better then the first, I have yet to touch MP though.
I heard that MP is better than SP so it should be pretty good if you like the SP lol.

The only good thing about this game is you unlock full episodes from G1 upon completing certain tasks.

Would have been sweet if they could make a game based on the first gen instead of tying in with the movie .. but that's wishful thinking.

I can understand hate for the movie but not the game. I think it was great, I really enjoyed it. I know it's not saying much but it's defintly the best Transformers game to date. Multiplayer is fun, all the diffrent Transformers give it a nice variety, the story could've been better but the voice acting makes me feel like I'm watching an old G1 episode thanks to Welker & Cullen.

While I wouldn't shell out $60 to get this brand new, I would highly recommend a rental to anyone who likes the Transformers. It's got an average completion time for an action game around 7-8 hours tops. Lots of unlockables & a solid multiplayer give the game nice replay value. I'd say 8/10.

I'm a big TF fan but I'm not being biased (I have the Transformers import PS2 game based on the G1 characters and it's one of the worst games ever.) I let a friend play a few levels and he loved it too.

I'm guessing 800 points, looking at that G1 Starscream model makes me want to go back and play the PS2 Transformers Armada game again for some reason.
I wish you could use those characters in single-player too. That'd make me run out and buy it right away.
