What happens when you don't pick up a Gamestop pre-order?

On a whim I went to Gamestop and pre-ordered MGS4, but now I've decided that I can go without it for a while until the used price comes down a little. If I don't pick it up, what happens to the money I put down (credit card)? I have an edge card and I'm *hoping* they don't transfer the credit to that.

I'd go in and cancel but I actually like the employee I pre-ordered with, so I don't want to ruin the only positive thing I have going with that store.

if you paid with a credit card it will go back to your credit card when you cancel. If you dont it will just stay there until you cancel it or transfter it to another game

From what i've heard that's really the only way you can actually hurt the company (outside of robbing them). You'll get fully refunded and they'll have an overstock.

Are you serious? If a store would get pissed at you for canceling 1 pre-order then you shouldn't be giving them your business anyway.

They need you a lot more than you need them.

I preordered Dragonball Z Budokai from GS and totally forgot about it. Ended up getting it as a Xmas gift anyway but the following May (six months later) I get a call from Gamestop telling me I still have $5 in credit I can apply to another preorder. I think I just ended up using the $5 towards a copy of Worms on PSX.

If it was paid through trade-ins, the credit can be applied to other stuff. If it's cash or credit card, they should refund it in the same method it was paid. If they won't give the cash back(and the manager denies it), call the DM while in the store. They're supposed to give back the cash(not give you only store credit for the amount).

Some GS stores are dicks about this and say they will only give store credit when you paid cash, when it's company policy to refund in the original payment method.

If not picked up within a certain time period, the reserved item will go out for sale (official timeline is 48 hours, but most stores hold them longer). You can get a refund in the method of payment you used to make the preorder.
